I started my minimalist lifestyle about 4 years ago when I realized how tired I was of the “stuff”. My house was so cluttered with stuff everywhere. I took a ton of boxes and trash bags. I went into every single room. Everything that was on a flat surface, including the floor, went into the boxes. All clothes were put in the trash bags. I did toss all obvious trash. I then piled all the boxes and bags from that room in a corner of the room. I ended up with 76 boxes 😳 and 16 trash bags of clothes. It was a win-win for me as I got all the stuff picked up and somewhat out of sight for a period of time…and I felt of sense of relief. Every night after work, I would go through at least one box, sometimes two. It was not overwhelming for me to do it this way. I would wash at 1-2 bags of clothes a week. As I was going through this process, I made keep, toss, donate and revisit decisions. I also included a box for a papers, one for photos and boxes for each of my children. It took me about 2 months to go through everything but by the time I was done, I had gotten rid of 40% of my stuff. I had decluttered cabinets, closets and dressers (they were my weekend decluttering projects). I was amazed how much I did not keep. My only struggle was clothes and books…but I’m reduced both by half. I have gotten rid of so much stuff and don’t miss any of it.

That's wild! But it's so great you got relief. It's definitely easier sometimes to take it slow to finalize getting rid of things. I too am always amazed that I don't actually want to keep the things we have.

The way you did this was perfect for you. Everybody has their own way to go through things that works for them. Don't pay attention to any haters. You did it. Doesn't matter how, you did something great and accomplished a lot!

I am just now starting on my decluttering journey. I am 4 months into my journey. I have a lifetime of stuff to go through. This is my first go through. I started with rooms, I go room by room. I am not interested in minimalism persae I am interested in essentialism, what do we use, love and need. I like stuff and comfort, and we do crafts. This was so helpful. Thank you. Great teamwork guys, very inspiring. ❤

I came across your channel today. I want to say congratulations on your minimalist journey. I'm in this for 2 years but still far away from my ideal home. One tip I found ideal is to stay away from shopoholics , like every conversation they talk about buying stuff... I find it sapping my energy. Good luck 👍

OMG, the beginning of the video resonates with me so much. I woke up ready for the day, but then my good mood slowly turned to irritation because I kept tripping over clutter and things were falling off my tables. I was so fed up today that I threw all my clutter into a corner and slowly went through it, deciding what to keep, donate, or throw away. When I feel too tired to continue, I take a break and come back to it later, instead of trying to go through everything without a break. That used to frustrate me more and made me consider just throwing everything away and starting over.

Honestly I always want to throw it all away and start all over 😂😅😅

do not use cardboard boxes in outdoor spaces (shed/garage, etc) Bugs and mice eat boxes, boxes rot from cold and damp.

Good point! We might get some bins and switch the stuff over.

Just donate it or toss. No need to clutter another area of your home

I really do want to get rid of it all, it's just hard to do in 2 days 😉 plus we wanted a very quick relief! We'll be going through the stuff tomorrow to start properly getting rid of things!

some people need the process though, it takes a journey of realisation, knowing it’s there and discovering the lack of need, otherwise the cycle comes back and continues

Great idea! I’ve been on the journey for a few years now and I don’t regret letting go of anything. I have been so grateful that I got going before Dh and I had some very difficult health issues. I did it before we couldn’t physically deal with it.

Honestly this 2 day declutter was a surface declutter for us! It made a difference in how we feel, but the clutter keeps creeping out of the shelves, cupboards and closets. We moved again and need to declutter AGAIN! 😅😅 It's a lifestyle I think.

2 things. Just donate instead of saving for 6 months. The clutter that is now in the garage would give me immediate anxiety. Also, I found it sad that you would place decluttering over holding your sick little boy You said the purpose is to focus on important things. And nothing is more important than your children
