Thank You Brian, I feel so blessed to hear and feel your MUSIC from the beginning , I still play because of Dennis . I'll be 72 in dec. but I will never feel old listening to the BEACH BOYS. Daily!!!!!
Brian wrote and produced this song in 1963 when he was 21. Still astonishes me for its subtle sophistication. Utterly beautiful piece and nicely done here.
This song is a tribute to John F Kennedy. Brian Wilson and Mike Love got together the evening of the assassination, Brian Wilson wrote the music and Mike wrote the lyrics.
Brian is and always has been a true genius. Clapton has a million licks too. Two of my all time favorites. Enjoy them while we can folks. They're not getting any younger.
Six years since you commented, Gordo. They’re both ALIVE and WELL (for now), and still doing their respective things. Brian’s lost Melinda a few weeks ago, so I’m sure he’ll be lost without her…prayers for him and his kids…
So long ago I forgot I said it. Yes, I hear Brian is in poor shape now that she is gone. Clapton still doing a few things. Apparently his leg problem has gotten better but I admit I'm not keeping up with it like I used to. I'm old now, too.
You think? The Wilson best voice EVER? Carl Dean's guitar skills are vastly surpassed by his voice. I hope he is teaching angels how to sing! (And, Carl had great guitar skills.) steve
I think Eric enhanced this track very nicely. It's one of my very favorite Beach Boy songs. Eric's vocals fattened up Brian's vox and complemented them. His understated guitar solos were tasteful and nice. I really enjoyed this performance.
To those who comment "Eric Clapton is not needed on this song" I want to remind you that Brian himself is the one who requested Eric to play this song with him and they have rehearsed this song many times before the show, if they played it on the show, that means Brian doesn't have any problem with Eric playing the solo while they are rehearsing
I think it's really great hearing Clapton play on this song. Brian's voice just sort of cuts through his a little bit because it stands out a little bit more, but Eric, doing what he does best on guitar, gives it a special moment.
@timmasters1195 Actually, Brian Wilson who's excellent decisions sold millions of records, influenced many an artist, and earned the respect of many musicians in the music business. Yes, that Brian Wilson.
@@timmasters1195 I'm not so sure that he could. He was so screwed up from everything that his father put him through physically and mentally. I'm surprised that he could even compose some brilliant music during his lowest points in life.
Eric had mentioned before that this is one of his favorite songs ever and i am willing to bet he jumped at the chance to be a part of the show. i feel it was a very nice addition to this live show to have his guitar both sing and cry along to this song... he added a little magic just like the orchestra backing it up. it was beautiful from start to finish
I was so blown away by the sound of this performance (I don't usually like songs transposed to a lower key, but _this_ song sounds good in ANY key), I kinda forgot to _watch_ the video. Brian looks sharp as hell in that suit! He always had good fashion sense when he made the effort. And I WANT that guitar of Clapton's! That's a beautiful paint job on it.
WOW! Brian Wilson and Eric Clapton....... it doesn't get any better than that folks, I'm tellin' 'ya! I love this song, I can can still sing it except for one of the very highest notes. This rendition is super cool!
I love the fact that those fabulous iconic musicians who originated from the 60s, are all so naturally friends. It's like the Beatles v Stones thing...they're all mates. Paul McCartney loved Jimi Hendrix. Eric is playing wonderfully well here in his usual modest way...his 'Concert For George' may well be the greatest tribute ever made to a fellow musician and friend. I love it The Beach Boys' genius Brian Wilson and Cream's magnificent Eric C.
Wow how wonderful to discover two of my musical heroes playing one of the lovelist melodies the Beach boys did i knew Eric had played with Aretha Franklin but only just found this Great very reminicant of Mel Torme and the Four Freshmen Hi Lows etc who Brian Wilson always said inspired him and Johan Sebastian Bach of course Huge thanx for loading down onto this interweb thing lol
this is the most beautiful sounding song ever but it always makes my eyes a little wet when i thought about the love of my life Diana that left 6 years ago and moved away.... She has now moved back and we are together again ....

That line about “the love of my life leaving after she didn’t feel the same way” I lived that. My second wife said something like this. It makes this song very poignant for me personally.
I was at this. We got two free beer tokens per person (they were serving London Pride). I remember England drew with Sweden in the 2002 World Cup that morning. It was a really nice day.
Thanks for the upload, I've been wanting to see this again ever since it was first aired, the night of the show. I think it knocked me out partly because it was so unexpected. My absolute favourite Beach Boys number. And Eric's too by the looks of things.
