Breaks my heart every time I watch this race. Poor Valiramix.
Well done Hors La Loi III you delivered when it counted.
Absolutely devastating to see that slip by valiramix and to say it getting up like that you just knew it was a sad end. No doubt would of been one of the best around.
Maybe , but had been beaten in his only previous grade 1 .
I didn’t like McCoys positioning of the horse throughout the race tbh .
i wondered why martin pipe wrapped valiramix in cotton wool (1run in which he hacked up then was put away till the champion i backed him n went to see it at my nans n had my shoes on ready to collect 400 pound when he trajically fell eould have been one of the best.
I cried like a baby..I didnt back him that day..
Poor Valiramix. I was only a kid but the gorgeous grey was my favourite horse and I remember being heartbroken. Very poor display from AP.
Valiramix would have hosed up, no question, 3 x months earlier he had already beaten Hors La Loi by 35 lengths and giving him weight....tragic..
A sad, tragic, excellent race.
One champion makes way for another.
I think this is the first time I've seen the entire race since it took place (I think the NH review of the year video unsurprisingly misses out Valiramix's slip). Racing Post described it as "Sadly, it also proved one of the most depressing spectacles seen on a British racecourse in a long while with the triple champion pulled up and his heir apparent meeting a sorry end..."
Interesting to note what happened after I accidentally shared this on Google+ after missing the checkbox. I deleted the post from Google+ which then deleted my comment from there. I didn't ask for that to happen. Google really have wrecked UA-cam.
It's on the NH Review. There's also an epilogue from Alistair Down which is mostly centered around Istabraq for some reason. I remember watching this when I was 9, it's still hard to watch now. Istabraq pulling may have been mildly disappointing for some racing fans but it's not comparable to the Valiramix incident.
Hard to watch with a hurdling legend pulling up and the apprentice meeting that sorry end. 8 when I watched this, burst into tears when Valiramix slipped.
rip varlimix
varlimix RIP he would of hacked up one of my favs
So sad what happened to the big grey he would have won easy , rip 🐎
Viewed this following poor Our Conor's death today. Not McCoy's finest hour, but I think he has matured a lot since 2002.
How on earth is McCoy to blame?
McCoy looks angry after the fall but clearly didn't know how badly Valiriamix was injured. As soon as he sees he's injured he runs after the horse.
McCoy very nearly have it all up after valiramix was put down,He was that cut up
If you watch AP's first ever DVD release, titled 'McCoy', he states he was that devastated over the loss of 'Valiramix' he nearly gave up riding. The brilliant Martin Pipe counselled him for months after that. I'm almost positive, that 'Valiramix' and AP were going to win that day, there wasn't anything going better coming down the hill.
MsVanorak yeah av seen that McCoy sat there crying
Istabraq the best ever hurdler
McCoy would have done better to see to the horse before he dragged himself up on 3 legs, instead of throwing his helmet down.
Exactly what I thought. yo u see his ignorant ways on ITV all the time
@@keithallen2979 easy to say after the event when you've not been fired into the ground at 40mph .. mccoy couldn't have known straight away the horse was that badly injured
Tony McCoy thinks one of his fore legs went in a hole not clipping another horse.. forget my big bet, tragic loss of a talented beautiful horse.
Valiramix could have been a star, it seems to happen to good horses, Darlan was another that succumbed to injury.....
Gloria Victis too.
What an utterly miserable race this was.
