"I Saw the Light" is fab. So also is "Hello, It's Me", "Love is the Answer", "Can We Still Be Friends", and last, but not least, "We Gotta Get You a Woman".
I remember this song playing on my AM radio station in 72 -- I was 7 and was IN LOVE with pop music! This one was one of my favorites along with "Roundabout" by Yes. Ahh, memories
Todd r is one DEEP rabbit hole to go down and i hope you do. He covered so many styles, pop, hard rock, progressive rock, new wave, to name a few. Few artists are as diverse. This particular album was a double LP, the first three sides are all todd….side 4 is live in the studio (hello it’s me is from side 4). This was a surprise hit record and the record company was thrilled…but todd had other ideas and totally changed direction with the next lp. He continued to due this for most of his career, which is probably why he never became huge, but those of us that know, know
Something/Anything? is a double album filled with an eclectic mix of ballads, tributes, power pop, straightforward rock numbers, Motown, soul, novelty tunes, and psychedelic hard rock. It was always on my turntable back in 1972, it's loaded with brilliant songs and lyrics. Love Todd Rundgren. Thanks for playing this song, you should give a few more tunes off this album a try - it's well worth it.
The album this is from (Something/Anything) is a masterpiece. A double album where he plays and sings EVERYTHING on the first three sides and side 4 is live in the studio. The album is full of sing along pop songs, power pop, hard rock and more. Todd is a musical genius. I can’t underestimate his impact on my enjoyment of music. For some prog brilliance, listen to his first Utopia album…Theme From Utopia. Just great!!!
Other songs that you would enjoy from Todd or his band Utopia. Love is the answer (utopia) , Parallel Lines, Something to fall back on, Can We Still Be Friends, We gotta get you a woman, A dream goes on forever, For the want of a nail, Sometimes I don’t know what to feel, Hideaway, Time Heals ( one of the first videos ever played on MTV
Todd Rundgren is a truly amazing talent, doing everything on this album, producing it all himself, a genius! He did his own version of "Good Vibrations" that's every bit as good as the Beach Boys version. In fact it was so similar, it almost fell into the "Unnecessary Remake" category since it was so dead on freakin' perfect!!
Nice job on this Shawn your appreciation for Todd Rundgren is justified. Welcome to an era of incredible musicianship, vocals, writing ability and production. A time when our ears and imaginations were consistently spoiled. Cuz, at the time, we thought it would last forever.
Todd Rundgren, Jeff Lynne, Steve Winwood - all musical geniuses. Steve Winwood was with three groups, one at age 15, one a supergroup that Eric Clapton wanted to be in because Steve was in it, a third group, and a solo career. During his solo career, Steve did everything - much like Todd did here - for a * whole album * - Arc of a Diver. You need to hear more Todd, a lot of Jeff Lynne (ELO), and a lot of Steve Winwood (Spencer Davis Group where he's 17 and sounds like he's 45 and so soulful it's insane; Blind Faith, the supergroup with Eric Clapton; Traffic, and solo work)
A lovely romantic sweet tune by Todd and this double LP is a winner. It also has one of my all time favorites " Couldn't I Just Tell You " a raging power pop classic.
Anything from this double album is solid gold. One of the most talented singer songwriters ever. He could crank out hits like this all on his own. (He used to do concerts with nothing but a tape machine playing back all his backing vocals and instrumentation.) Todd was living for many years with Bebe Buell an ex Playboy centerfold, who had a daughter with Steven Tyler of Aerosmith. Todd and Bebe raised Liv Tyler as Liv Rundgren, even after Todd and Bebe broke up. She was about 9 when she first met Tyler and had an immediate affinity towards him, then soon discovered that he was her father. She thinks of both Todd Rundgren and Steven Tyler as father figures in her life.
I saw one of those “tape recorder” shows! At Toad’s Place in CT! It was so crazy! That and the TR-i shows with the revolving dome thing were quite memorable for me. ❤
Pop gold Shawn. It was after this recording that’s Todd started to feel that his song writing was becoming predictable and formulaic. He wrote this song in about 15 minutes. Crazy talent.
Todd's a wide, deep rabbit hole. Besides his solo with there's his band Utopia and his work as producer, including Badfinger, Meatloaf, XTC and Grand Funk Railroad. Genres from prog to hip hop. If he gets popular, he's going to make a left turn. It won't get huge views, but dig deeper... Something to Fall Back On (all voices - sort of), Black and White (harder), The Ikon (30 minutes prog track from Todd's Utopia) or Temporary Sanity (raps through the bridge).
when I clicked on this I wasn't sure what to expect, I knew it would be great to listen to because I am a fan of Todd's music, but your reactions and insight into the song was really made this a fun watch, I will be coming back for more, one of my favorite groups from the eighties is the Korgis...their song "Dumb Waiters" was what initially drew me to their music, but "Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime" is truly a beautiful song and would be a great listen with headphones.
A real good one. My favorite is done with his band Utopia called Caravan on The Adventures to Utopia album. When you listen to this song you will be a lifelong Todd fan!
There is a great “live” version featuring Daryl Hall…Live at Darryl’s house but from Todd’s house in Hawaii…the whole show is amazing so check out the whole thing if you get a chance
Yes, Todd is a creative genius, a risk taker, an innovator. Saw him solo in the round (ca.?2005?) up on a platform alone with lots of instruments, he would play a bit, record it, loop it, add another instrument, loop it, arc. building phenomenal structured walls of sound all alone- can’t say enough about this guy. Keep digging in. My lo-key favorite track is “Couldn’t I just tell you” but he’s also got a lot of hits.
A bit later in his career, Todd pushed further into Prog Rock and formed Todd Rundgren's Utopia. Their album was incredible with the cuts Utopia, Love is the Answer and Freedom Fighters.
This song always brings back plenty of memories like the first time I heard it we (me, my late wife, my friend and his girlfriend) cut school and went downtown Chicago to Marina Towers to go bowling in their basement bowling alley... It was on 3/15/72. I remember the date because they were dying the Chicago river green for St. Patrick's Day
You might or might not know that the incredible TR is a monster rabbit hole, with some stuff you might not love, but SO MUCH you will love! Plus, with him, you also get to go down the various "Utopia" rabbit holes as well.! His discography is almost as big as The Beatles, and just as varied in style, song to song.....maybe even more varied! Todd goes off the deep end sometimes, but hes such a genius, and does so much to love, that we forgive him!🔥
Todd is one of the greats! Check out: Long Flowing Robe, A Long Time, A Long Way to Go, Boat on the Charles, Sweeter Memories, Dust in the Wind, Zen Archer, Wolfman Jack and the incredible Just One Victory. He's one of my very favorites!
The extremely talented country singer Hal Ketchum covered this and did a great job. Hal had a lot of awesome songs, check them out of you ever get the chance. Hal passed a few years ago, another good one gone way too soon 🎶🎵💚
This mix is ODD to me. All the components sound exactly right except his voice. It sounds farther away than my memory, far & echo-ey. Huh? Still it’s great. Todd is one of my Super Heroes & you are an extremely natural & joyous reactor type quality person‼️‼️☮️
100% Todd on this one, he plays all instruments and does all the vocals.
Yes he does. When he tries to write a great pop song, he writes a great pop song.
@@tedcole9936 Blue Eyed Philly Soul that pre-dated Hall and Oats.
As a drummer his drum work on this is 🔥
"I Saw the Light" is fab. So also is "Hello, It's Me", "Love is the Answer", "Can We Still Be Friends", and last, but not least, "We Gotta Get You a Woman".
I don't want to work...
Yes! All of these!
For the want of a nail
all 4 of those are my absolute faves... Todd is godd!!!!!!!
I remember this song playing on my AM radio station in 72 -- I was 7 and was IN LOVE with pop music! This one was one of my favorites along with "Roundabout" by Yes. Ahh, memories
Todd wrote and recorded a gorgeous song, “A Dream Goes On Forever”.
Todd does “Just One Victory” an inspirational song for me, personally.
i love Just One Victory so much! thank you so much for for your comment!

Very well said about a very special album!
Exactly what you said. I played that album constantly.
"We Gotta Get You A Woman" and "Couldn't I Just Tell You" should also be checked out by Todd! 🤔😀

Yessir. Welcome to the incredible TR.
Take the Todd journey! You won't regret it!
I can see how you Vibe to music from yesteryear that it consumes you more than music of today ❤️
…….more Rundgren please 🙏🏻

Great music to listen to while riding in your car, with the windows down.

Gimme Todd anytime … great sound
Excellent reaction, Shawn. You’ve got to check out A Dream Goes On Forever by Todd - one of the best pop songs ever.
Love is the Answer is one he did with is band Utopia, it's right up your alley, Shawn.
Yet I must say that England Dan & John Ford Coley’s cover is “chef’s kiss” !
@@billwilson7948 Todd wrote it.
@@chitownlee Um, right. I said clearly a “cover” by them. His great creation & they covered it, supremely!
@@billwilson7948I grew up to this version, but once I heard the Utopia version, there was just no going back for me! 🤘
Great song, I haven’t heard this in years, thanks

Wow‼️🤩 You & I agreeeeeee so MUCH ‼️☮️
Such crazy talented artists.Just love them! :)@@billwilson7948
Todd is really just a genius period. He literally created the first ever colorized tablet in 1981, just in his spare time.
A lovely romantic sweet tune by Todd and this double LP is a winner. It also has one of my all time favorites " Couldn't I Just

Beautiful song. Danced to this often back then❤ on the Todd Train. Different girl from all the rest…😊
I could not possibly say how often this one got airtime. VERY hot.
Pop gold Shawn. It was after this recording that’s Todd started to feel that his song writing was becoming predictable and formulaic. He wrote this song in about 15 minutes. Crazy talent.
Love him.
Check out his previous band Nazz with Open My Eyes.
How about checking out his song Utopia, from his album Utopia, played by Todd's band Utopia?

Yup, he is one amazing man blessed with a great voice.
He done everything on a few albums.

Hello it’s Me
Yes!
In my top five artists.
I believe this song was to honor Carol King. He sounds like Carol King singing.
another hit is we gotta get you a woman !
Another great song from Todd. He has many others that are really good.
❤❤❤
The extremely talented country singer Hal Ketchum covered this and did a great job. Hal had a lot of awesome songs, check them out of you ever get the chance. Hal passed a few years ago, another good one gone way too soon 🎶🎵💚
check out the live version with Daryl Hall
Unlike many classic rock era songs which I've grown tired of due to being overplayed over the decades, I've never tired of this one.
Great review. Todd is a bonafide genius.
When this song came out in 1972 I was 13 years old. when I first heard it I thought it was a woman singing. Ridiculous, I know. 😄
☮️💙💙💙🔥🔥🔥😍
React to Todd with Daryl Hall (live from Daryl's House) both their hits & others
