Why Mindset Matters More Than IQ

  • In this video I talk about the fixed vs the growth mindset, and why mindset can be more important for reaching goals than your IQ or other inherent characteristics. Many people live their lives thinking that their ability to succeed is inherent, and that they can't change their trajectory. I explore how emotional intelligence might have a bigger impact on peoples lives than they think.

    "Most of us are just average people, trying to do some big things."
    "Don't feel less intelligent than the next person, don't feel more intelligent than the next person."
    A mindset to just keep on pursuing your set goals without having to be too attached to the failure/success that comes with it, it keeps us grounded.
    Great, great advice Sir Anas!
    Will definitely sub!

      Dude trust me at 26 youre deffo not to old lool, there are so many students at my university on the graduate course who are way older than you are. ofc it will depend on your personal circumstances (kids/family etc) but at 26 age should not even be a concern imo

    I wish I found your channel earlier- you make revision notes and student life seem fun unlike actual people deem it to be- Keep it up- you inspire us students to better and push away from bad influence g. Got a levels in about a month- working hard 2-4 hours a day sometimes 5 - final push now- wish I did 30 mins every subject a day since year one and made learning fun and not a chore- the reward of uni and studying somewhere you want to doing something you want to do with more free time is so worth it

    Feeling indifferent to educational out comes is quite challenging , not getting too happy with a great grade and not getting sad about a low grade it’s difficult , I’m trying to detach myself from that , feeling indifferent is useful in other areas of life is useful , like when you don’t get the job you really wanted , or when a Friendship ends , feeling certain emotions to certain situations is almost like an instinct it is hard to detach but it is very useful if you can manage it

    Anas, Salam my East African brother, been a fan of your channel for a while!
    I've got a question, I'm a 20 yr old, currently in Radiography and will graduate in 2020, I'll be applying in October 2019 for the 2020 Graduate Entry. My Question is:
    1) How much Chemistry is there in Medicine?
    2) How much free time do you get in Medicine?

    • @AnasNuurAli
      @AnasNuurAli  5 років тому +1

      yooo, wsalaam, I appreciate it :))
      Theres hardly any chemistry tbh, and even what in there is not complex at all, things like krebs cycle etc (which isnt event that important i cant remember it)
      In terms of free time, hmm this one is difficult. The graduate programme is intense in the first year, and still intense after that but not so much. You can have a decent amount of free time as long as you manage your time well
      I hope that helps

    I agree with this to some extent. I think what you're referring to is conscientiousness, which is, indeed, a strong predictor of success. But bruh, you you're not an average person😂You're probaly above average in IQ. But great video!

    Check out Nassim Taleb's paper debunking IQ as informational with respect to predicting performance.
    Takes the pressure off not being a good test-taker, teaches you something about statistics, and makes you (rightly) concerned that having a high IQ won't save you from stupidity. Highly recommend.

    Salam Anas. I wanted to apply to SGUL for graduate medicine. Do they accept a lot of graduate students or no? Also aslong as I meet their GAMSATs cut off mark and have a 2.1 and have decent work experience (around 5) around the health care. Would I have a chance of being accepted?? What should I do to increase my chance of getting accepted? Thank you in advance.

    • @AnasNuurAli
      @AnasNuurAli  6 років тому +2

      Wsalaam!
      You definitely have a chance of getting in. You should make sure you get the 2:1.
      If you get a high Gamsat then you’ll probably get an interview, and then getting an offer will be based on that only. Main thing just get 2:1 :)
