This Leaf Spring Kit will be a great addition to some scale builds. The point of this video is to show how the stock leaf kit performs on a bone stock SCX10. It’s great seeing suggestions on how to improve performance for those interested. If you have ideas, please share them!
Those Springs are way too stiff. Check out the leafpring setup that I built on my SCX10 back in 2011. made from the recoil spring out of a chainsaw pull-start. Shackles were made of bike chain. At 1:00 in the video you will see how much flex it had. At 1:08 you will see why> Folding ultra-droop shackles, and the leafs were very thin and high quality Spring steel. I eventually needed to add another leaf once the single main leafs got broken in. ua-cam.com/video/BSZPTjjaUZc/v-deo.html
To give you some perspective on leaf suspension set up, my TF2 weighs 9 1/2 lbs and I run with the main spring with the smallest spring on TOP to prevent axle wrap which can bend the main spring. I'm getting scale looking articulation!
there is also a lot of mods to make it work better. like running the main leaf on the bottom and then the second longest on the top. also grinding the leaf eyes in a triangle pattern and squishing them to be oval and inserting fuel tubing into the leaf eye. you can also put the red axial rubber washers in between the leafs and the axle mount. plus they will break in over time.
I think leaf springs work better on heavier trucks as it needs the weight to help the springs flex a little more. You also get less torque twist with leaf springs.
Love the scale look of leaf springs. More about challenging realism than performance. You can get softer springs and/or just run one to get more flex. Great just to have more options.
Cool!!! I would try these ...I actually got the Trailblazer to put leaf springs on it ...They're goin on my Honcho when I get it....I'm still getting used to my Trailblazer.
That’s really nice, there’s so many options and having one of each style of build setup gets so crazy expensive. I really enjoy it though and be able to have proper comparisons for testing. Thanks and your videos are always great....super informative in all the right areas.
There are things to do to make the suspension feel softer, but it will never articulate like a link set-up. But some want that realistic suspension action a leaf setup provides. It can be fun and challenging to drive.
It doesnt look like the shackles have any movement the springs are definitely stiff but the shackles are supposed to move so the suspension has some droop when one wheel is on a lower ledge but it does look really cool but what a huge loss of performance but honestly a real k5 blazer on stock leaf springs is as stiff as a board also I think it needs fender wells to go with it just to make it look not hollow but I still think it looks awesome!!! Plus scale trucking always comes down to compromising performance for looks and it varies person to person
If I was building a scale trail truck and wasn't doing much crawling I would just add weight until the leaf springs behavior is more scale. These look great. It would be really cool to ditch all the links just for the looks.
Is there any plans to do a leaf spring kit for the SCX10II UMG6x6? Or is there a way to maybe use 2 kits, with a bunch of imagineering and tinkering? I'm building a camper back for the back of mine, and I'm okay with the stiffness, it'll work out. I'm just curious if maybe you'd heard anythingor maybe you've heard of somebody doing it?
I got a lot of inspiration from the video and I try to make it, but the RC4WD Leaf Spring Suspension Conversion Kit was discontinued. Since this is South Korea, it is difficult to obtain and it is too expensive such as eBay. Is there any way to get a cheap chassis?
It looks like a 3 leaf spring to me. If you want to soften the spring more then take out the MIDDLE leaf (maybe)??? Makes sense to me but, don't know if it will help.
I'm a scale guy, but the leaf springs make things so stiff that it's not fun for me to drive. I've had some issues with bent leafs too. No plans to convert to leafs for me.
Can any one give me suggestion on what pro tek lipo to run for my honcho that i just bought im so confused with the plugs so im not sure witch are compadable
Leaf springs are great for heavy scale R/C crawler like the hard body D110 defender. In the other words, you have to match the weight of your R/C crawler. Leaf springs are not ideal for light weight rig like the SCX10.
Maybe after the mods you could add a little weight. That will break them in those lexan are lighter than hardbodys everyone knows that and yes I would do this for my axial in fact I ordered one bout ten mins ago thanks man
I was the same way strictly comp and rock crawling until I went out with a group of scalers now I'm hooked. Unless you've done it you won't understand. It's like moving up into the rc elite class. Lol🤙
Not on everything. Look at stock leaf spring jeeps from the 70s, and the Chevys too. The hanger only goes in the rear if someone is modifying it for high speed situations. At least in real life.
I haven’t looked yet, but does RC4WD still offer the red super soft leafs? I have them on my Trailfinder 1 black (RC4WD’s first trail kit) and they flex a LOT better Edit: they DO still have them store.rc4wd.com/Red-Super-Soft-Flex-Leaf-Springs-4_p_917.html
See ya later links ??? How much did you spend todo this you could nearly buy another rtr for what your into it , bad base model to use prob the worst info out about axial ,
@@nicholas440 I've got this kit and all said an done she weigh in around 9lbs and it's more capable than the marlin we crawl with. Leaf do need to break in tho.

Definitely needs to be a lot softer, it's almost like it doesn't have suspension
It'll get softer as time goes by

I just ordered this from rc4wd two days ago. Gonna be my 1st leaf rig
Local shop im by has 3 of these kits, I plan on buying 2 of them for future builds, couldn't belive it when I saw them
Very happy to see you guys do a video on this... I have a 10.ii kit still waiting to be built, round 2 of parts will be this kit.
Sounds like you have a fun project in the works! Thanks for watching!

They would have to be a lot softer for me to swap to leafs. Personally seeing articulation is a huge part of my enjoyment of this hobby.

Absolutely would love to do this swap, after things get back to somewhat normal and I have some money again
Looks great, had to remove a leaf on my truck to get some more flex if that's what you're looking for
Please let us know if Traxxas comes out with the leaf spring kit for the trx4.
I just wish there was a leaf spring conversion for the Traxxas TRX4. I’m building a Ford F450 dually and I’m not happy with my custom 4 link setup
They make great parts love it
Just need to add some weight, should soften them up easier, just installed a set by gmaid on both axles.

On the RTR SCX10II not a big fan of the the leaf springs. On the kit because of the better parts with a hard body would be a nice setup.
It looks like a 3 leaf spring to me. If you want to soften the spring more then take out the MIDDLE leaf (maybe)??? Makes sense to me but, don't know if it will help.
Henry it will never work to mount the leaf to the middle and it will never flex becouse it doesn't have a pivot balls
Q maravilla!!
Es una preciosidad!!!

I wish they still made this. :(
Does anyone think this would work with the Roc Hobby Willys jeep. I know there would be some modifications but how easily could this be done
Can any one give me suggestion on what pro tek lipo to run for my honcho that i just bought im so confused with the plugs so im not sure witch are compadable
lexan body is way too light fot that set up.it needs some hard body on it ;))
I want to buy one but I don't know which one.
Super 👍
So is it possible to do front leafs and keep the rear 4 link ??
Yes, you still retain the stock center skid where your links attach to in the rear.
RCDriver_Online thank you sir 👍🏻👍🏻
cool!

Love the scale look but the performance loss would probably be a show stopper for me.

Yup more weight! Enjoy the kit!
Finally!
Kit is no longer available.
I’ve never liked leaf spring suspension in Rc crawlers. But I also don’t care about ultra scale driving either.
I was the same way strictly comp and rock crawling until I went out with a group of scalers now I'm hooked. Unless you've done it you won't understand. It's like moving up into the rc elite class. Lol🤙
Why do these manufactures CONTINUE to make the front springs hangers backwards!? The shackle goes towards the BACK not in front of the axle SMH
Not on everything. Look at stock leaf spring jeeps from the 70s, and the Chevys too. The hanger only goes in the rear if someone is modifying it for high speed situations. At least in real life.
Yah the leaf springs seen really stiff ..I can see it takes different driving skills to run this type of setup...
soooo stiff. it is like you have no suspension at all. it is solid. Like a gokart. lol

so no flex at all, duly noted
$130 to make your rig less off-road worthy? No thanks , I like articulation
Some people like articulation, some like scale suspension movement...
@@rcdriver and those leafs give a truck neither haha
@@nicholas440 I've got this kit and all said an done she weigh in around 9lbs and it's more capable than the marlin we crawl with. Leaf do need to break in tho.
Pay 130$ to make your truck perform worse. I get it it looks more authentic, but this is not for me
