Alright, time for some rampant speculation. From the 'Ghost Fragment: Legends 2' card, we know of several possible explanations for what the Nine are. Specifically, nine explanations. Stuff in this video, as well as in Xur's passive dialogue way back in D1, suggest that these explanations are true. The lore tab on the sniper shown in this video mentions Ghosts in the Deep, and the Nine Grimoire card suggests the Nine are "Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause.,' the latter half was said almost word for word by the Emissary as well. The card also mentions "leviathan intelligences from the seas of Europa or the hydrocarbon pits of Titan." The Emissary mentions hydrocarbon pits, people have noticed something leviathan-like on Titan, *and* that all sounds very Ahamkara-like. One of Xur's dialogues mentions 'speaking in a language of pure meaning.' Guess what's on the Nine's grimoire card? That's right, "The Nine is a viral language of pure meaning." And lastly, the Emissary looks suspiciously like an Awoken, and the Nine have had dealings with the Awoken already. On the grimoire card, it says the Nine are "the firstborn Awoken and their minds now race down the field lines of the Jupiter-Io flux tube." My theory is this. There isn't one 'correct' answer from all the options provided on the Grimoire card, despite there being strong evidence for several. The answer is all of the above. The Nine are a council or gestalt of all of those things, explaining the name. It could be individuals, but the wording of the Grimoire card suggests it's several groups, who banded together or formed an alliance, as it makes reference to 'survivors of the cis-Jovian colonies,' which implies more than one being. Nicely explained. From what I remember the Awoken are touched by both the Light and the Darkness. Perhaps they have found a 'third' force. Like the Light and Darkness are fighting on a sheet of paper for example. They would have found or connected to that sheet of paper. Light and Darkness exist in balance. The 'third' force could very well be the very scales of that balance. Hope I said that right.
Looking into the Corona Borealis supercluster, it isn't anywhere that close to the Horsehead nebula. However, there is some interesting story to it, or rather a reference. Mythology wise it's rather benign, but there is a link to the Corona Borealis constellation itself, the northern crown. This is tied to a story about Dionysus, but in some footnotes there is a reference to it in H.P. Lovecraft. While that would be easy to dismiss, we know that Bungie has looked at H.P. Lovecraft for inspiration before, with the Vex and possibly the darkness. The story, Hypnos, tells about a man, a sculptor, gaining a new strange friend with large, glowing eyes. This stranger takes him through journeys and veils across time and space. To strange realms beyond human thought and comprehension. The short story ends with him "waking up" only to find that his friend was really just the statue of Hypnos he's been sculpting. While the ending may not relate much, The connection of being in a bizarre dream world beyond comprehension sounds an awful lot like The Nine and the location of the Third Spire, if it can be called a location. The Emissary, while cryptic, also has a hint of malevolence to her words and phrasing. The Nine are starting to appear as a neutral more like Rasputin, talk of perfection like SIVA, and in fundamental natures like Sword Logic. Sidenote, I wish I could find some reference for the comment she makes about where to find them. I've heard that kind of spiel before about other mysterious groups.
The thing I've really enjoyed with D2 is the way they told a good, self contained story. Then littered the periphery with lots of juicy bits of lore. Thankfully we have wonderful people like Byf to collect it all, wrap it up nice, and gift it to us all. Great work once again, sir.

People like byf are truly blessed he has all the keys to all the castles and a army of people he could call on as a team. I dont know if I will ever personally see the emisary I can only hope. But something this profound for the crucible I feel the things you aquire here far out shine everything else in destiny 2.
I found the Crucible by far the least enjoyable part of the game. Strike missions were a blast, but I'm the type of person who only goes into games with people I know. At one point, most of my friends stopped playing D1. After that; I just sort of struck off into the wilderness alone to do patrols seeing as there was nobody to play with.
I just wanted to thank you Byf for making all of these videos. Without them I would be totally in the dark about all things destiny and would be totally unprepared for the launch of it on PC today

Could be the nine acting through those ghosts, think of the 9 as formless entities and anytime they act through physical beings it's always a group of 9 'things' be it guardians, awoken, ghosts, AI etc. That's my feeling on it at least. That the 9 ghosts that went out into the deep were not doing so of their own volition but were being guided by the actual 9.
This is what I think. The Nine consists of 9 groups of 9 beings. The 9 ghosts being one of them. The other....not sure. The 9 original awoken? 9 survivors of the Jovian crisis thing?
Hmmm... I have a couple thoughts. Is it possible that the space "at the end of all things" is beyond the veil? And are the hydrocarbon pits of distant moons a reference to the Cauldrons of Rhea, the place where some of Uldren's crows searched for Kaliks Prime?
What if our ghosts are actually the creators of the traveler, reborn without their memories? For all we know, your ghost is actually a 5 billion year old god and he doesn't even know it!
The answer might lie in the logo of the game. The three pointed kind of thing with the oval thing in the middle. There are three extreme dimensions in the Destiny universe: The Light, The Dark, and The Third. The light amd dark are represented on the logo as the top left amd right most round bits on the logo, having the oval thing in the middle being the corporeal world between them: aka us. The only way that the light and the dark can interface with each other is through our physical dimension, which is why on the logo that the oval thing is separate from the three extremes, and that the light amd dark are separated by the oval thing. Otherwise, the traveler wouldnt need us to be its guardians and the darkness wouldnt need its servants. On the other hand, we have the third extreme. I believe the third extreme is one that manifested in result of the manifestation of the light and the dark. It is the observer, the third eye of the universe. It doesnt take sides between the eternal fight between the light and the dark, it merely observes them to become the perfect form in between, but not to be colinearly in between. It is represented on the logo as the bottom round protrusion, and is directly connected to both the light and the dark, not needing to use such corporeal beings to interface with the other two: being what many would believe to be the perfection of the universe. Thus, when corporeal beings try to become that third eye, they ultimately fail, as the vex do. The vex cannot simulate the light because they are not truely observers in the universe. They have physical ties to the physical world. But they still persue to be the perfection, because the true observers can judge them to be worthy of true perfection. Now, some will say, "But we guardians are beings of the light, why would the observers even be interested in judging us to be perfection?" Well to answer that, not all guardians were good, and many guardians medeled with other forms of the darkness. The true observers see that in us, the ability to be given such pure light, but choose to change it in such a way that may balance it with the darkness. One example of this that I think might be roght is our use of the void light: a mixture of light and darkness in such a way that is seen as taboo by many guardians as it has too much darkness within it. Allowing us guardians to truely see both sides of the equation to form a perfect version of the light and darkness. That is why we are being judged by the nine. Even though the true observers dont need us to seek perfection, we seem to be this large anomaly in this universe. One worth observing.

I admittedly have a somewhat limited knowledge base on the topic I think it relates to, but the phrase to "ride a pale horse" refers to taking up the reigns of death itself, withing hoodoo practice, and the information/beliefs surrounding it very much involves chasing Perfection
Kevin Wessels Perhaps The term "Third" is not meant to be taken literally. Perhaps there was no first or second or third spire. Perhaps this was the one spire and it was taken from the third person perspective.

Something interesting to point out is in Ghost Fragment: Legends 2, it gives in-universe theories as to who the Nine are. One theory actually involves the Corona-Borealis supercluster the Emissary mentioned. Another, again, in-universe theory, says that they are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship, which the sniper rifle lore gives credence to.
One thing that really excites me about this new information about the Nine is that it feels like it opens up a whole new dimension in the world of Destiny. It's always been a big universe, but the Nine feel mystical or almost mythological, and we've never experienced something like that before. Not even with the Ahamkara.
I have two things to say I'll say this first because it is simply an idea that popped into my head, with no facts or proof. However my idea is that these "emissaries" ARE The Nine. I got this idea from a story I heard a long time ago about a king who wanted to understand his people better so he dressed as a Homeless man and lived amongst his people. Eventually he is taken in by a family who provides him food and shelter. He then reveals himself as the king and gives them riches and what not. So my idea is that, The Nine are all about "judgement" right? You know they say "we Judged you worthy" or "we are always judging you" or something along those lines. So what if they are pretending to be emissaries to live amongst us, so they can learn about us. See what we're made of. Obviously The Nine are immensely powerful and knowledgeable so perhaps when they judge us worthy they'll share something with us. Now my second idea actually has some more "facts" and is far far longer than this so I'll post it separately.
i'd like to note that that sound in the last part when you fall through that portal and go to the big blue lady room sounds just like that one "you have been teleported!" sound. i'm not a huge raid guy, but i believe in one of the raids you are teleported, and it sounds exactly the same.
The Emissary said to "look for us in the hydrocarbon pits of a distant moon" and that immediately rung a bell in my mind. Wasn't there some grimoire card or other piece of lore that mentioned the hydrocarbon pits of Titan/a distant moon in relation to the sea monster? I only remember the details roughly from the sea monster video, but for me, that means a lot.
The horse, the golden celestial orb, and the realm beyond really remind me of David Lynch's visuals and tone for the Black and White Lodges in Twin Peaks. I know Luke Smith is a fan, perhaps some on the art design team are as well.
It might be an idea to look into a connection between the nine and Mara sov. Remember in the grimoire when prince aldrin feels a "Hum of starlight". This could connect to the flawless section of the area. Maybe that place is rather another dimension. The one in which Mara sov could have tapped into and possibly entered into on that first cut scene of the taken king. We now the nine and Mara sov have a connection with the trade of skolas so who is to say she has not talked of this dimension with them before. The massive thing even talks says a line it you wait long enough. Something along the lines of "my brother is not too far" something like that. I'm sure there is more you could find out byf. Your good at this stuff. Just a shot in the dark but some of it seems right to me. The stars. The quote. Relationship between the nine and Mara sov. As I said. The "deep" mentioned in The Long Walk's lore is a reference to "The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause." The heliopause is the very end of the solar system, where the constant outward flow of solar wind ends (hence the "silence"). It should also be noted that the Adjudicator's lore mentions a "devil" described as "a golden snake who poses as a god" found in the the deep black of the heliopause. The Flawless line about "you're not thinking small enough," it could be a reference to the dust Xur spoke of in Destiny 1.
DUMB THEORY The nine are the "9"(sorry Pluto) planets in the solar sistem, or at least a personification (maybe even incarnation) of their power/will. It would not surprise me if the various planet were sentient beings, i mean, i think it "fits" in the destiny universe (kinda). I find it interesting the emissary said "when the time comes seek us out". and I got the queens vibe back in D1 when she said "if I call on you, I expect a answer" when you first meet the queen. Also, the emissary was talking about the 'corona-borealis'. whats the PS exclusive sniper that can change elemental damage almost instantly? the Borealis.
The talk of 'distant pits of hydrocarbon moons' makes one recall the Ahamkara and their habitation of the core of Fundament in the Book of Sorrows. Perhaps the Nine are the last Ahamkara, who bargain with Guardians to grant wisdom, but slowly physically corrupt and change them when they serve as their emissaries
What if the Nine are of the same species as the Traveler? And they choose to not interfere, unless you are worthy. Because if they interfere like The Traveler has, it will only make the Darkness stronger, Yin-Yang.
Byf im continually impressed with all of your videos man. I thought about Queen Mara Sov when i watched this video. The emissary of the nine appears to be awoken. I wonder if there is a connection there. Do you have any theories on the Queen or what we may see sometime in the future?
I've noticed that your ghost has mentioned a couple of times that he lives, or feels safer in your backpack. For some reason, I thought that maybe the ghost stored themselves within each guardian and only came out when needed, or commanded to rather than being kept inside of some backpack. I believed this because the ghost would vanish and reappear when summoned, but no guardian wouldn't be carrying any backpacks. Any info on that?

Maybe they aren't completely evil, but they don't seem completely benevolent either. I mean they did release Skolas when the Queen gifted him to the Nine to make amends for her brother sending his spies into their territory. Skolas certainly wasn't a good character and by releasing him they gave him the opportunity to rally the remaining House of Wolves under the Queen's control and had them turn against her, slaughtering her Awoken. Certainly her brother spying on them was not acceptable but it seems a bit extreme for them to be slaughtered for it.

It's been more of Trials of the Scout Rifles No unique play styles, people are too afraid of close quarter combat with an Auto or Pulse. Cowardice, unoriginal At least you're using a pulse in Trials Byf, not everyone has to rely on the meta to win. Sadly I will never reach flawless unless carried due to these meta worshipping pieces of trash
There is no meta right now. I used a pulse rifle every match, with an auto rifle in my energy slot. There are ways to beat scout rifles, you can't just try to take them out from a distance. That's the whole point.

The Nine and their map for their trials remind me of a tool music video. Anyways, she might be referring to the corona borealis supercluster, which is a huge (megaparsecs wide) cluster of galaxies all grouped up, some might collapse into each other. As for the horsehead, it is a dark nebula located in orion constellation. The Nine just become more and more interesting, I love it.

its just me, or i see to many connections to the triangle shapes in the spire, also the Deep as been referenced in the grimoire cards as the Darkness. at 11:30 when the emissary is talking about dark matter did you notice for a brief moment the sound used in the finally cutscene with the big " triangle ships". and by the way the emissary resembles the concept art of the race 5. I imagine that we will be fighting something like "Prey" dark matter monsters that can shape itself to anything, even to emissary. Xur its just a rogue soul left behind wondering since the last purge of the traveler in IO where we see in the cutscene the black triangles fall in to the water, and we already seen what the black triangles do, in some extend they transform people to stone and analyzing that old concept art form destiny where we see the triangles using blue beams, i believe that besides transforming people to rocks also extracts souls, converting in to darkness and evolving. just a theory.
If I'm right, Corona Borealis is just about directly "North" of Sol in galactic coordinates. Meaning, if you drew a line perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy that passes through the sun, that same line would pass through Corona Borealis. IF I'm right. I haven't done the math and I'm just eyeballing this from equatorial coordinates. If that is the case though, heading that direction would be the fastest way out of the galaxy, into the "lightless void" or the space between galaxies, where there are few stars to light your way.
She mentioned hydrocarbon pits of a distant moon. That same line was mentioned before in a grimoire card (I hope I spelt that right) when suggesting the possible identities of The Nine themselves. I cannot remember which card exactly but I do know that it mentioned the Hydrocarbon Pits of Titan. Perhaps Titan will have a larger role to play with the Nine themselves? Just a little thought I had.

If you look at the Trials gear, each class has a different one of the Trials symbols/circles filled in solid - Hunters are the first, Titans second, Warlocks third. Not sure if it's lore important, but it's sort of interesting.
Some good ideas here about finding a balance between Light and the Darkness. Here were my initial takes: That map - as well as the Third Spire - look constructed of the same white material as the Traveler. Indeed, the rotating metal triangles bear a striking resemblance to not just Vex structures, but those within the Traveler after it literally explodes at the end of D2's campaign. There's a model of what appears at first glance to be the solar system, happily rotating on a wall on Eternity. The Light is described by the Speaker as something very Force-esque during the campaign. Add that to the 'we are everywhere and nowhere' expression of the Emissary, the request to look at smaller things, and the fact that she's bloody massive, all lead me to believe that at least - if the Light and the Nine are connected somehow - then the former is essentially some sort of super-particle that has been harnessed to generate magical powers, including all the space magic we see in the game, from our basic regeneration and class powers, to time travel, the throne-worlds of the Hive, and whatever is with the Traveler, if it is, as some have posited, a gateway to another reality or our future selves.
When you entered the emissary said "they will break or they will not, there is no space in between." Perhaps this could refer to the breaking of a horse and how that is metaphorical of the nines goal to 'break' beings or more specifically the guardians into worthy warriors in the same way that you break a horse so that it obeys. That might explain why there is a horse there, I don't know.
When you think about it, Osiris or the "Curse of Osiris DLC" will probably add to the Emmisary and will shed light on alot stuff. Also The D1 lighthouse could be a reconstruction of the Third spire, Osiris when he was gone searching for answers the nine might have took him in, he could have been a student and learned alot that he will now return and shed light of his knowledge and what the darkness actually is. Maybe that's why he also created his followers and the trials of osiris, and his lighthouse is a version of the third spire. That's just my two cent's maybe it will open your opinion or not lol Great video BYF
She speaks of the Corona Borealis superclouster, and she also says "When the time comes, seek us out", i feel like she's refering to the portion of universe where, in the final cut scene of the game, we see those triangular shaped ships and maybe she knows whats coming next. And if you also notice that she speaks of the Lightless Void, as we see in the game Savathun is using void power to summor herself into our dimention, and this type of void power is described as Lightless maybe because it is used by a creature who have been touched by the deep.
There are a few other Destiny Year 1 lore mentions of The Nine. We know from Mystery: Fate of Skolas that for whatever reason, the "Kell of Kells" was released by the Nine. Ghost Fragment: The Queen hints that the Nine don't approve of her or her decisions. Perhaps most cryptic of all, if you stood next to the Speaker in Destiny 1 long enough, he'd say "If only the Nine would help us..." I'm not sure how or if these tie together with what we know now, but it seems that for whatever reason, these Awoken (if the Nine are indeed the same race as their Emissaries) clash ideologically with their Queen. They send Agent Cthulhu to the Tower every Friday, yet the Speaker thinks they could offer far, far more. Could the Nine have prevented Gary's invasion? Averted other menaces, like the Taken or SIVA? Just who's side are they on, other than their own? The more we know, the less we understand...

Ninja Pups Huh, never noticed that before!
Looking into the Corona Borealis supercluster, it isn't anywhere that close to the Horsehead nebula. However, there is some interesting story to it, or rather a reference. Mythology wise it's rather benign, but there is a link to the Corona Borealis constellation itself, the northern crown. This is tied to a story about Dionysus, but in some footnotes there is a reference to it in H.P. Lovecraft. While that would be easy to dismiss, we know that Bungie has looked at H.P. Lovecraft for inspiration before, with the Vex and possibly the darkness. The story, Hypnos, tells about a man, a sculptor, gaining a new strange friend with large, glowing eyes. This stranger takes him through journeys and veils across time and space. To strange realms beyond human thought and comprehension. The short story ends with him "waking up" only to find that his friend was really just the statue of Hypnos he's been sculpting. While the ending may not relate much, The connection of being in a bizarre dream world beyond comprehension sounds an awful lot like The Nine and the location of the Third Spire, if it can be called a location. The Emissary, while cryptic, also has a hint of malevolence to her words and phrasing. The Nine are starting to appear as a neutral more like Rasputin, talk of perfection like SIVA, and in fundamental natures like Sword Logic. Sidenote, I wish I could find some reference for the comment she makes about where to find them. I've heard that kind of spiel before about other mysterious groups.
The thing I've really enjoyed with D2 is the way they told a good, self contained story. Then littered the periphery with lots of juicy bits of lore. Thankfully we have wonderful people like Byf to collect it all, wrap it up nice, and gift it to us all. Great work once again, sir.

Last time I was this early, I only achieved a Crucible rank of 7 over three years of playing Destiny.

Strike missions were a blast, but I'm the type of person who only goes into games with people I know.
At one point, most of my friends stopped playing D1. After that; I just sort of struck off into the wilderness alone to do patrols seeing as there was nobody to play with.
I started day one. My highest Crucible rank is 4, never did any trials, and only participated in 3 Iron Banners.
I just wanted to thank you Byf for making all of these videos. Without them I would be totally in the dark about all things destiny and would be totally unprepared for the launch of it on PC today

so, the ghosts aren't the nine, just one member of the nine.
Remember the grimoire card from D1? Of the nine entries is this,
"The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause."
Could be the nine acting through those ghosts, think of the 9 as formless entities and anytime they act through physical beings it's always a group of 9 'things' be it guardians, awoken, ghosts, AI etc. That's my feeling on it at least. That the 9 ghosts that went out into the deep were not doing so of their own volition but were being guided by the actual 9.
This is what I think. The Nine consists of 9 groups of 9 beings. The 9 ghosts being one of them. The other....not sure. The 9 original awoken? 9 survivors of the Jovian crisis thing?

The answer might lie in the logo of the game. The three pointed kind of thing with the oval thing in the middle. There are three extreme dimensions in the Destiny universe: The Light, The Dark, and The Third. The light amd dark are represented on the logo as the top left amd right most round bits on the logo, having the oval thing in the middle being the corporeal world between them: aka us. The only way that the light and the dark can interface with each other is through our physical dimension, which is why on the logo that the oval thing is separate from the three extremes, and that the light amd dark are separated by the oval thing. Otherwise, the traveler wouldnt need us to be its guardians and the darkness wouldnt need its servants. On the other hand, we have the third extreme. I believe the third extreme is one that manifested in result of the manifestation of the light and the dark. It is the observer, the third eye of the universe. It doesnt take sides between the eternal fight between the light and the dark, it merely observes them to become the perfect form in between, but not to be colinearly in between. It is represented on the logo as the bottom round protrusion, and is directly connected to both the light and the dark, not needing to use such corporeal beings to interface with the other two: being what many would believe to be the perfection of the universe. Thus, when corporeal beings try to become that third eye, they ultimately fail, as the vex do. The vex cannot simulate the light because they are not truely observers in the universe. They have physical ties to the physical world. But they still persue to be the perfection, because the true observers can judge them to be worthy of true perfection. Now, some will say, "But we guardians are beings of the light, why would the observers even be interested in judging us to be perfection?" Well to answer that, not all guardians were good, and many guardians medeled with other forms of the darkness. The true observers see that in us, the ability to be given such pure light, but choose to change it in such a way that may balance it with the darkness. One example of this that I think might be roght is our use of the void light: a mixture of light and darkness in such a way that is seen as taboo by many guardians as it has too much darkness within it. Allowing us guardians to truely see both sides of the equation to form a perfect version of the light and darkness. That is why we are being judged by the nine. Even though the true observers dont need us to seek perfection, we seem to be this large anomaly in this universe. One worth observing.

Weird theory here but we have nine planets in our solar system, what if the nine are similar to Titan World Souls in World of Warcraft
Something interesting to point out is in Ghost Fragment: Legends 2, it gives in-universe theories as to who the Nine are. One theory actually involves the Corona-Borealis supercluster the Emissary mentioned. Another, again, in-universe theory, says that they are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship, which the sniper rifle lore gives credence to.
And so, Karliah has become emissary of the 9. Guess nocturnal wasn't good enough.
One thing that really excites me about this new information about the Nine is that it feels like it opens up a whole new dimension in the world of Destiny. It's always been a big universe, but the Nine feel mystical or almost mythological, and we've never experienced something like that before. Not even with the Ahamkara.

I have two things to say I'll say this first because it is simply an idea that popped into my head, with no facts or proof. However my idea is that these "emissaries" ARE The Nine. I got this idea from a story I heard a long time ago about a king who wanted to understand his people better so he dressed as a Homeless man and lived amongst his people. Eventually he is taken in by a family who provides him food and shelter. He then reveals himself as the king and gives them riches and what not. So my idea is that, The Nine are all about "judgement" right? You know they say "we Judged you worthy" or "we are always judging you" or something along those lines. So what if they are pretending to be emissaries to live amongst us, so they can learn about us. See what we're made of. Obviously The Nine are immensely powerful and knowledgeable so perhaps when they judge us worthy they'll share something with us. Now my second idea actually has some more "facts" and is far far longer than this so I'll post it separately.
i'd like to note that that sound in the last part when you fall through that portal and go to the big blue lady room sounds just like that one "you have been teleported!" sound. i'm not a huge raid guy, but i believe in one of the raids you are teleported, and it sounds exactly the same.

Wasn't there some grimoire card or other piece of lore that mentioned the hydrocarbon pits of Titan/a distant moon in relation to the sea monster? I only remember the details roughly from the sea monster video, but for me, that means a lot.

When you present an oracle offering this week, you will see the emissionary talking to the queen. She will tell you a bit about her.
It might be an idea to look into a connection between the nine and Mara sov. Remember in the grimoire when prince aldrin feels a "Hum of starlight". This could connect to the flawless section of the area. Maybe that place is rather another dimension. The one in which Mara sov could have tapped into and possibly entered into on that first cut scene of the taken king. We now the nine and Mara sov have a connection with the trade of skolas so who is to say she has not talked of this dimension with them before. The massive thing even talks says a line it you wait long enough. Something along the lines of "my brother is not too far" something like that. I'm sure there is more you could find out byf. Your good at this stuff. Just a shot in the dark but some of it seems right to me. The stars. The quote. Relationship between the nine and Mara sov. As I said. Wow that was cool but strange
The "deep" mentioned in The Long Walk's lore is a reference to "The Nine are Ghosts who pierced the Deep Black without a ship and meditated on the hissing silence of the heliopause." The heliopause is the very end of the solar system, where the constant outward flow of solar wind ends (hence the "silence").
It should also be noted that the Adjudicator's lore mentions a "devil" described as "a golden snake who poses as a god" found in the the deep black of the heliopause.
The Flawless line about "you're not thinking small enough," it could be a reference to the dust Xur spoke of in Destiny 1.

The nine are the "9"(sorry Pluto) planets in the solar sistem, or at least a personification (maybe even incarnation) of their power/will.
It would not surprise me if the various planet were sentient beings, i mean, i think it "fits" in the destiny universe (kinda).

The talk of 'distant pits of hydrocarbon moons' makes one recall the Ahamkara and their habitation of the core of Fundament in the Book of Sorrows. Perhaps the Nine are the last Ahamkara, who bargain with Guardians to grant wisdom, but slowly physically corrupt and change them when they serve as their emissaries
What if the Nine are of the same species as the Traveler? And they choose to not interfere, unless you are worthy. Because if they interfere like The Traveler has, it will only make the Darkness stronger, Yin-Yang.

I've noticed that your ghost has mentioned a couple of times that he lives, or feels safer in your backpack. For some reason, I thought that maybe the ghost stored themselves within each guardian and only came out when needed, or commanded to rather than being kept inside of some backpack. I believed this because the ghost would vanish and reappear when summoned, but no guardian wouldn't be carrying any backpacks. Any info on that?

Maybe they aren't completely evil, but they don't seem completely benevolent either. I mean they did release Skolas when the Queen gifted him to the Nine to make amends for her brother sending his spies into their territory. Skolas certainly wasn't a good character and by releasing him they gave him the opportunity to rally the remaining House of Wolves under the Queen's control and had them turn against her, slaughtering her Awoken. Certainly her brother spying on them was not acceptable but it seems a bit extreme for them to be slaughtered for it.

There is no meta right now. I used a pulse rifle every match, with an auto rifle in my energy slot. There are ways to beat scout rifles, you can't just try to take them out from a distance. That's the whole point.

Anyways, she might be referring to the corona borealis supercluster, which is a huge (megaparsecs wide) cluster of galaxies all grouped up, some might collapse into each other. As for the horsehead, it is a dark nebula located in orion constellation. The Nine just become more and more interesting, I love it.

its just me, or i see to many connections to the triangle shapes in the spire, also the Deep as been referenced in the grimoire cards as the Darkness. at 11:30 when the emissary is talking about dark matter did you notice for a brief moment the sound used in the finally cutscene with the big " triangle ships". and by the way the emissary resembles the concept art of the race 5.
I imagine that we will be fighting something like "Prey" dark matter monsters that can shape itself to anything, even to emissary. Xur its just a rogue soul left behind wondering since the last purge of the traveler in IO where we see in the cutscene the black triangles fall in to the water, and we already seen what the black triangles do, in some extend they transform people to stone and analyzing that old concept art form destiny where we see the triangles using blue beams, i believe that besides transforming people to rocks also extracts souls, converting in to darkness and evolving. just a theory.
If I'm right, Corona Borealis is just about directly "North" of Sol in galactic coordinates. Meaning, if you drew a line perpendicular to the plane of the galaxy that passes through the sun, that same line would pass through Corona Borealis. IF I'm right. I haven't done the math and I'm just eyeballing this from equatorial coordinates. If that is the case though, heading that direction would be the fastest way out of the galaxy, into the "lightless void" or the space between galaxies, where there are few stars to light your way.
She mentioned hydrocarbon pits of a distant moon. That same line was mentioned before in a grimoire card (I hope I spelt that right) when suggesting the possible identities of The Nine themselves. I cannot remember which card exactly but I do know that it mentioned the Hydrocarbon Pits of Titan. Perhaps Titan will have a larger role to play with the Nine themselves? Just a little thought I had.

If you look at the Trials gear, each class has a different one of the Trials symbols/circles filled in solid - Hunters are the first, Titans second, Warlocks third. Not sure if it's lore important, but it's sort of interesting.
Some good ideas here about finding a balance between Light and the Darkness. Here were my initial takes:
That map - as well as the Third Spire - look constructed of the same white material as the Traveler. Indeed, the rotating metal triangles bear a striking resemblance to not just Vex structures, but those within the Traveler after it literally explodes at the end of D2's campaign.
There's a model of what appears at first glance to be the solar system, happily rotating on a wall on Eternity.
The Light is described by the Speaker as something very Force-esque during the campaign. Add that to the 'we are everywhere and nowhere' expression of the Emissary, the request to look at smaller things, and the fact that she's bloody massive, all lead me to believe that at least - if the Light and the Nine are connected somehow - then the former is essentially some sort of super-particle that has been harnessed to generate magical powers, including all the space magic we see in the game, from our basic regeneration and class powers, to time travel, the throne-worlds of the Hive, and whatever is with the Traveler, if it is, as some have posited, a gateway to another reality or our future selves.
As someone who plays Destiny without friends... or general interest in multiplayer... this is trippy as fuck. Glad I got to see it.
When you entered the emissary said "they will break or they will not, there is no space in between." Perhaps this could refer to the breaking of a horse and how that is metaphorical of the nines goal to 'break' beings or more specifically the guardians into worthy warriors in the same way that you break a horse so that it obeys. That might explain why there is a horse there, I don't know.
When you think about it, Osiris or the "Curse of Osiris DLC" will probably add to the Emmisary and will shed light on alot stuff. Also The D1 lighthouse could be a reconstruction of the Third spire, Osiris when he was gone searching for answers the nine might have took him in, he could have been a student and learned alot that he will now return and shed light of his knowledge and what the darkness actually is. Maybe that's why he also created his followers and the trials of osiris, and his lighthouse is a version of the third spire. She speaks of the Corona Borealis superclouster, and she also says "When the time comes, seek us out", i feel like she's refering to the portion of universe where, in the final cut scene of the game, we see those triangular shaped ships and maybe she knows whats coming next.
And if you also notice that she speaks of the Lightless Void, as we see in the game Savathun is using void power to summor herself into our dimention, and this type of void power is described as Lightless maybe because it is used by a creature who have been touched by the deep.
There are a few other Destiny Year 1 lore mentions of The Nine. We know from Mystery: Fate of Skolas that for whatever reason, the "Kell of Kells" was released by the Nine. Ghost Fragment: The Queen hints that the Nine don't approve of her or her decisions. Perhaps most cryptic of all, if you stood next to the Speaker in Destiny 1 long enough, he'd say "If only the Nine would help us..."
I'm not sure how or if these tie together with what we know now, but it seems that for whatever reason, these Awoken (if the Nine are indeed the same race as their Emissaries) clash ideologically with their Queen. They send Agent Cthulhu to the Tower every Friday, yet the Speaker thinks they could offer far, far more. Could the Nine have prevented Gary's invasion? Averted other menaces, like the Taken or SIVA? Just who's side are they on, other than their own? The more we know, the less we understand...
