Lore is love, Lore is life, My name is Byf, Please do a video about the hunter knife! Yeah I did make it to rhyme but I don’t actually know a lot about the knife and why hunters use it. Thanks for another awesome video as well My Name Is Byf!
Daryl Martin That's just for arc strider I thought. Golden gun still has a knife and when you melee with Shadowhunter he still uses his knife right? Or am I wrong? Tell me because I uninstalled the game about a month ago 😂
Kenny Fernandez yeah only the arcstrider class uses a punch for melee instead of a knife, the other two subclasses do...however arcstrider has a more ninja/martial arts kind of punch rather than the Titan’s straight up brute punch...the animation looks like a knuckle punch or something out of karate
I remember in D1 as we worked our way towards capturing Skolas, Petra Venj would often make remarks about her "surprise" or "astonishment" about The Nine's interest in Skolas. All this leading up to us eventually defeating and capturing Skolas for Mara Sov. Then Mara stating that after she was done with Skolas she would hand him over to The Nine. So, the Awoken had regular contact with The Nine? Was the gift of Skolas to The Nine a "deposit in the favor bank" so to speak so when Mara Sov was facing obliteration by Oryx they pulled "saved" her? To....return?
Wade Davenport Before House of Wolves, Mara Sov gave the Nine Skolas in return for having her crows stationed in the Jovians. It is revealed in a Grimoire card that the Nine had Xur release Skolas, as well as giving him a Ketch. Why the Nine would do this isn't entirely known, however the connection between The Queen and the Nine is interesting. It seems that the Queen made some sort of deal with the Nine, they could be the source of her power and, like you said, bring her to the void upon death so that she may return. What the Nine get in return is a mystery.
We also know that the Queen will be coming back at some point, according to her voice actress. Though, a few characters have shared or changed VA's. Master Ices and Devrim share one. Brother Vance changed VA's, as did Osiris. So, really we don't know what's gonna happen with the Queen and the other Awoken that remain.
+Jacob Biller To add on that, in a Grimoire card that I don't quite remember (You can find it under the Mara Sov category in Ishtar Collective though) it outright states that Mara Sov can go to the void and that only she can do that (in reference to the Awoken). In that exact same card (I think) Mara telepathically communicates with people across vast distances. So Mara definitely has a connection there.
I love the grimoire card where a warlock ( if I remember right) criticize titans for not wondering where their enemies go when they've been swallowed by a titan void melee.
Also I've been thinking as you mentioned the close proximity or passage to the darkness. The hive have been experimenting on titan how to end the tithing system to feed the worms. The darkness probably isn't to happy about that.
Interesting you mentioned Prometheus, especially considering the Traveler's purpose. Bringing fire or light from the land of gods? Making his own beings?
If we follow that parallel of the traveler being akin to Prometheus, Is there any evidence to suggest that The Traveler is Aberrant/dissident to some greater cosmic design? Could the Darkness then, in turn, be some sort of cosmic "fixer" attempting to undo the traveler's work to bring the universe back to some sort of neutral state?
I was thinking along the same vein. The traveler, as a creation itself of the Nine, left the void, seeking to create its own life and to grant light to it. But within the same mythology and closely linked we have Pandora's box... Hmm metaphors and similarities abound.
Would it be likely that the darkness could not take from the void to use its power but the traveler(Prometheus) has removed the power(fire) from the void and has made it available to whomever it deems worthy. Maybe the nine see us as worthy and allows are use as a balance against the darkness
Kurt Duncan Jr stolen would be better than removed. Prometheus stole fire from the gods and gifted it to the struggling man. Prometheus did not do this totally out of the goodness of his heart, and he was also punished. The Prometheus analogy would not be be adequate in my opinion
So with this knowledge can we say that the Taken are essentially what happens when you get stuck somewhere between the Materium and the Void? Oryx would say he was the one enhancing them and maybe he was but I would like to argue that the Void can identify weaknesses and attempt to fix them. Hunters don't really have a way to Crowd Control, thus the void presented us with the bow. Warlocks didn't have a way to obliterate their enemies efficiently thus they gave them voidwalking abilities. Strikers saught to defend their allies but could only destroy and thus th void, once again, solved this weekness with sentinel. Just some food for thought and I don't claim to be a lore master at all so I'm sure all of this is wrong.
To explain why we aren't taken I'm going to present the argument that the light protects us, it gives form to the void and that is why we call it "Void-Light" Or whatever. The forces of the Taken cant control it which would give them a motive to go for light because with light they could better control their abilities. Though I'm not sure how we could explain how Oryx obtained his ability to control taken. One could argue that he is/was one of the nine. He was a god-like figure after all. But again all theory and I honestly don't expect any of this to go anywhere but I'm just trying to maybe build off of what's here and you guys may read all this and scoff at it but at least in attempting to do my own theory work.
Another argument could be that Oryx had killed other creatures and fellow guardians of the light and had absorbed enough of it to allow himself to control it.
Wasn't it said that Oryx stole his powers from even higher god like beings? Something to do with the original three hive gods. Could be wrong about this though, just remembered some fragments. I like the idea of the void helping with what you need, as you showed with the third subclass. Doesn't seem wrong to me, obviously I can't say it's right or wrong though. Void is just the coolest type of light.
SirMcDust I'm not sure either but let's say you're right. We don't really know the direct source of his power. We know he stole it but how did that God get his power? It could still be that it originates from the void. Maybe at one point there was a lackluster king and so he reached into the void for power and the ability to control taken is what came out? Now the king that once couldn't even control his kingdom can control nations.
This is the greatest comment ever. I can just imagine a bunch of them sitting at a massive oval table with a bunch of pages of original Destiny writing of Statons. Every single one of them perplexed beyond measure just reading and whispering under their breath to themselves "What the fuck?"
The lore isn't "amazing" you only think that way because of how byf presents it, adding in his own theories and "what could be". The only decent lore were the books of sorrow and they weren't even in game.
Seriously bungie were sitting on SO much potential great lore but they are too much of cowards to give us any substantial answers. Im just an angry destiny fanboy, was so hyped for d2.. so dissapointed
jezzaw09 no i actually find the lore quite good since D1 with the grimore it was the worst way that could have been presented but theres so much potential on these universe and the lore could grow so much but they seen either too lazy or how ever was the real creator of the lord is no longer working at bungi but men theres so many awesome battles, legends, characters, places even unexplained powers they they basically just throw there without explanation, so much we could get yet they fall short each time
Dark stuff... based upon some real esoteric knowledge. Who the hell came up with this game? The reason why this is so odd and disturbing is because a lot of the stuff sounds a lot like things I’ve heard before… But I never expected to see them in a game.
Sheer speculation here, but if Nezerac and the Traveler are both from the Void, and one creates Life and the other Death (important here, Death is not the same as the destruction that the Hive cause), then it is possible that Ulan-Tan was correct; there is a balance to the universe between Life and Death, however the universe is in unbalance due to the Hive trying to make the Materium into the Inmaterium. Additionally, it could be reasoned that both the Taveler and Nezerac are part of the Nine, though the former has definitely shed it's Godlyhood to help save humanity, and the Nine are trying to help us to bring balance back to the Universe. Byf, I'd like your thoughts on this, am I crazy or am I making sense?
I'm not Byf but I'd like to chime in. So let's assume the Traveler is one of the Nine; there is this video on youtube from Destiny Guides, that goes into the theory of the Traveler housing a god. It's a really interesting video, and in conjunction with your theory could make a lot of sense. It describes the god within the Traveler as being the Gardener, conversely this lines up with the Greek mythology Byf mentions, as one of those seated on the Council of Nine was Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. Hades, who sounds most similar to Nezerac, unfortunately didn't sit on the council. But interesting nonetheless.
This is why a keep playing Destiny. The Lore still seems so deep and complex and gets darker and darker the more we discover. Destiny 1 was Epic . Destiny 2 is sinister in a disturbing way. Think about the very beginning of the campaign. Think about Ikora ‘s fear of her new mortality. At least that ‘s my impression . Bungie said that D2 was about light and not Darkness...well, for what i feel while playing D2 there is always a sense Of impending doom above. The Osiris’ DLC adding more criptic and complex traits to the all story and Lore. Maybe i’am very wrong..but videos like this enhance my feeling. Thank you so much for Your uploads and your work. It helps to play the game even with the console shut
Ever since the release it has felt like something bad has been approaching. With the pyramid ships and herald of savathun it felt like something was coming. With shadowkeep, we know what they pyramid ships are, what they have done and what they seek to do in the future. All we can do is wait to see what comes next and wonder just what power it is that we face.
Yay. More Destiny lore. If crucible doesn't keep this game alive, you and the other loremasters will. BTW. Coming off of the heels of the second DLC title leak I'd like to offer you a theory. Cayde is not Rasputin. ALL Exos are Rasputin. They just don't know it.
I played Curse of Osiris for a week when it came out, haven't touched it since. However, I have watched every Byf, MoreConsole, Unknow Player and even Joker video released since. I hate to see this franchise waste all the potential it had to tell a masterpiece of a story.
Please never stop making lore vids Byf! You’re a gift to all of us that watch pensively and I thank you for opening our third eye for this interesting world of Destiny.
The way the Void was described it gave me another idea for what it is. Take this with a grain of salt because I am no expert on Destiny and I am certainly much less knowledgeable when it comes to science. If I remember correctly, in Quantum Physics empty space isn't really empty. There are fluctuations in the quantum field and virtual particles popping in and out of existence. What if Void Light is the harnessing of this energy untouchable to us? "The universe is defined by fundamental forces. Beneath the world of light and matter lies the vacuum, and the vast dark secrets that it contains. In the understanding of this vacuum lies the secret of Void Light." "...You find the power to punch through and borrow something from the other side..." So what if Void power is the energy of virtual particles made real by our Light. That those "borrowed" particles are allowed to stay for more than the brief moment they otherwise would. It is not some other-dimensional power mystically drawn into our world, it is quantum particles harnessed by our light. In this way, Void energy is much more in line with Solar and Arc energies. I personally think that this sounds awesome and makes some sense, but that's not to say that Byf's hypothesis is any less credible than mine. Again, I barely have a layman's understanding of Quantum Physics and there is still plenty I have yet to learn of Destiny's lore that could possibly contradict this. So if you know more than I do about either of these topics than please feel free to tell me how I'm wrong.
It does make sense, actually. All three energies are made up of the tinier particles (or waves😁): electrons for Arc, photons for Solar, and whatever the heck dark matter is made up of for Void.
Well void can't be made of dark matter. Dark matter is "dark" because it doesn't interact with photons aka light. Considering that void is an element of Destiny's Light (Which, granted, is different from the type of light we're familiar with.) and that we're able to see it and that we're able to interact with it definitely isn't dark matter. And as far as I know, dark matter hasn't been proven to be made of Higgs bosons. If what I suggested was true then Void would probably be made of the normal quantum particles (Quarks, leptons, photons, etc.) Again, I'm no expert, I could be completely off.
There is one thing that popped in to my thoughts about the 9 offering their help to us guardians is the speech that Calus gives you when you beat him about "being's that are stronger then yourself offer power will keep unto themselves and to be weary of them" or something like that, makes me concerned that is what the nine is offering and that it won't end well for anyone who takes such an offer.
I said it from the start that when we get our taken king style update they will introduce a fourth subclass and this info just strengthens that theory. Great stuff though. Haven’t played in months but still love the lore! Wish I wanted to play! :(
Byf..I have to admit it..I have stopped playing D2.. however I can't get enough of this channel and love the lore of destiny...keep up the good work yooo
A huge THANK YOU for making this video. I’ve really been looking forward for this! Didn’t disappoint. Thanks for being awesome and for still making lore videoes. Thoughts on the new warmind DLC leak? See you at GuardianCon.
Ok random thought, if a council of nine gods punished Prometheus, could this be what happened to the traveler for giving races from the materium light? I mean one of the nine is a deep orbit war mind, could this be Rasputin? He supposedly crippled the traveler, could this be an allusion to the council of nine gods punishing Prometheus?
Nokris_the _hive Byf correct me if I'm mistaken but as I understand it Rasputin prepared to attack the traveler it force it to defend earth but never had to because the traveler chose to stay and defend earth on its own.
I'm not that deep into lore but in Greek mythology Prometheus is punished by the gods for giving humans fire (light) so is it plausible that the traveler is Prometheus?
This was just exactly what I love about the destiny universe! Lore and my friends are what keep me coming back to destiny! Thank you Byf for sharing your awesome theories!!
Whenever I think of what a fourth subclass would be I always consider that bungee would create a new element. After watching this I have realized that each of the element types pretty much contain the destiny universe and it would be somewhat weird to be introduced to a new one. So i think the best route to go is hybrid archetypes like the weapon murmur or whatever the destiny 2 changing element sniper is called.( I know the weapons don't combine the elements but they can use the multi of them). With their being many warlocks attempting many crazy things with the void, sooner or later one is going to try and combine the elements.
Master of the lyokian monsters ya whenever I think of the darkness I think of the exo stranger. She doesn't have a ghost but seems to have powers of the light. If dark were to ever become an element our guardian might have to give something up to obtain that power.
Loved it, Byf! I'll be keeping an eye out now for any other possible links in lore to the Nine. And thank you for continuing to explore this rich and interesting universe bungie had crafted. It always makes me smile knowing I'm not the only one who enjoys the cosmology of the Destinyverse!
Hunters and Warlocks are both known to question and experiment with things more than the average Titan does, which might have something to do with the "corruption."
Their abilities are limited to only using what they need. And as previously stated by the other guy, they don't experiment with it. Hunters try to be creative with it to use it cuz hunters get bored. Warlocks like to study and want to see what else these abilities can "elements" can do. Both of which require u to free your mind and soul. Thus why it seems that they can be corrupt. Just like the taken
I'm a student of esotericism and the occult. And this is where my mind has gone exactly and why this game is my favorite despite it's many, many flaws. I have nothing to say atm of this but yeah, i think you are on the completely right track.
All I keep thinking of is The Elder Scrolls universe, with the immortal plane, Aetherius, and the Mortal plane, Mundus, bordered by the plane of Oblivion, which is essentially a void and home to the Daedric Princes(gods) in their Planes of Oblivion. Their are also the Nine Divines, or Aedra, if you count Talos. Sounds quite similar Also, the daedra also aid those who help them through their relics, some being invaluable, and attack those who danger them, and wage war with each other. The Nordic dead go to Sovngarde, a plane in Aetherius when they die, like Valhalla.
Wait, so the traveller came from the void. The traveller has godlike powers. The nine reside in the void and also have godlike powers. Maybe the traveller is one of the nine who came to assist us in the battle against the darkness. Or maybe the traveller is a gift from the nine.
I know Destiny is at an all time low but listening to Byf's videos really gets me into the lore and how great it is even if the game is lacking. So thank you Byf for making these great videos for all of us. You truly are a legend.
Mike B. Where is that written not even in the grimoire does it say that. That's just an assumption that we've come up with on our own because we see them as evil.
Dynamism Impulse The Worm Gods are servants of the the Deep aka Darkness. And they make it clear that they see followers of the Light (Traveller) as weak.
Mike B. First off you're wrong about the light and The Traveler because the travel is nothing more than a tool sent by the nine to find their Warriors. And just because the worm gods see the light as weak doesn't mean they want to get rid of it. it's like your favorite football team versus their nemesis you're always going to talk trash on your nemesis but they're just as important to the game as your team. And 2nd at no point are we a hundred percent sure that the worm gods are the highest on the hierarchy of Darkness. We just know them as beginning route for the hive to be connected with the darkness but then where did their Darkness come from
I discovered part of a golden age chant that was used by those seeking the power of the Traveler: "Great beast of the sky, please hear my cry. Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight..." The rest was illegible but there was a part about "shadow games"
You, sir, are an amazing human. Thank you: not only for another TOP notch video diving into the lore that I love so much, but for continuing on with Destiny lore regardless of the nonsense with the game itself. I appreciate you, and I can’t wait to see the story of Dresgen Yor. Eyes up, guardian.
Look forward to every one of your Destiny videos and liking the other stuff you're starting to put up on the channel! Great job, with you 'til the end!
I love destiny lore. The void and the ahamkara especially. The void is just so cool because unlike solar and arc, no subclass uses it the same. All arc subclasses harness the arc that holds everything together, but use it differently. However the void is obtained completely different. Warlocks try to control it and twist it to their will in order to walk through it in desire for power, Titans don’t question their power they managed to control (for the most part) and simply go with it despite not fully understanding it, and nightstalker hunters don’t try and control it, they let it control of them. It’s like a symbiotic relationship, the hunter slowly losing himself, but managing to borrow power and let it consume them, and braving the void without the knowledge of a warlock but with the keen sense and wits of a hunter. It’s just. So. Cool.
Hey Byf, I have sort of a crazy theory that I thought of while watching this video and I wanted to run it by you and the community here. Essentially a thought about two ideas: 1) the traveler came from the void; 2) the nine are possibly deity-like beings who live in the void. Because I am a super solo player I have no experience with the Trials, but from what I have gathered, the Nine put guardians through these trials in order to test them. They are always watching us and sending us help, as if preparing us for some future fight. Is it possible that the Nine are the ones who created the Traveler as a counter to the darkness with the intention of giving us our powers and molding us into warriors to fight the fight against the forces of the darkness that they cannot fight themselves for whatever reason? I am no lore master, so there may be plenty that would disprove this idea, but it is what I thought about while watching this video. What do you think? Is the Traveler a creation of the Nine sent by them to give us powers and help them fight against the darkness?
I love when Destiny has a mysterious and hidden under tones. That’s why I loved D1 so much I pray bungie goes back to these vague hints and wonder of our possibilities and the mysteries of the universes
My question is about what you said around 20:20. about the nine helping us. As guardians (D1 Guardians anyway) we basically have over come everything that comes in our path. I know Zur sells exotics, but we can get exotics. Other than that what have the nine and all of their benevolence done for us? I argue that they actually are amused with seeing us in turmoil to they throw things in the mix like weapons in order to continue their entertainment of us battling through turmoil.
Another great video, Byf! Thinking about the Nine and Nezarec, something came to me. If God-Like creatures exist in the Void, and some of them are the Nine, this leaves open the possibility of Nezarec being an entirely separate entity. We know he exists in the void, but we have no proof that he is a member of The Nine. Hearing you say so certainly that they're here to help us suggests to me that Nezarec is not a member of The Nine, but another, possibly even more powerful Void Lord.
The Void being where the dead go... Imagine way later on in D2 finding some confused nightstalker without memory of where he is or how he got there, and you slowly realize he's a "resurrected" form of Cayde-6.
Just putting this out there, but the lore tab on "It Stared Back" seems to indicate that Calus actually encountered the Void and saw "a thing greater than myself."
my boy Byf back at it again with the fresh lore vid! I have high hopes for Destiny's true comeback in September. They are at the worst place they could be right now, and that's normally when the biggest gamechangers happen. Keep up the good work Lore God Byf! 👏👏
For the whole Greek mythology reference, I actually think your into something Byf. Bungie seems to love the Greeks and their mythos for some reason or another and its effect is everywhere in both games. Osiris could be seen as Helios in some ways. All the Vex being named after creatures of Greek lore. The Crucible/sparrow racing which could be seen as the guardian’s version of the first Olympics. And a few more miscellaneous stuff I can’t remember right now.
You missed one big part about how the Nine seek balance: the Nine were responsible for freeing Skolas in House of Wolves. Xur showed up with the key to let him out. I felt at the time the Nine existed to feed conflict, but maybe it is a sense of balance.
A few old theories of mine were.the nine arent nine beings, but instead a collection of nine different types of people. Not like human and fallen, but instead just 9 groups of creatures that are all similar but takes different forms. Also there ls only 9 of each type. They're are so many different references to different groups of nine. The nine ghost. Nine warminds. Nine original awoken, who also made the choice for all out they're to become awoken. and the void place theory is similar to mine but a key difference is the description of void. When they speak about it being a place in-between stars i took that to an extreme of not just stars alone but entire universe. Using the theory that everything is on a loop forever, that somewhere sometime another big bang will take place and create another universe exactly where this one is. The void is the space in-between the two universe. Seeing and beholding to the knowledge of creation of the new and destruction/decay of the old. They learned these powers. It's the edge of the universe where the decay rate of all mater is being destroyed. It's what the darkness sees. But if you push past that and look further you see the creation of new life, matter and energy. side note* I believe the emperor has seen the edge of universe and stolen some of its secrets. I believe it says something similar to that somewhere in the game.
Me personally Byf i dont play destiny much mainly cause internet is KAKA but thankfully i got guys like you who keeps the game interesting and make me think of the game deeply as well as streamers who make the game fun even tho the content is not so much but ya thank Byf!
A few side notes about today's lore. First: I don't think the voice from the recording is the Emissary, to me it sounds almost like the Exo Stranger. Second: I think the Nine may have something to do with those Ghosts that flew out into space, think about the possibility of those Ghosts binding to other creatures out there just as other Ghosts are bound to Humans, Exos, and Awoken. Third: I think the Nine will be slowly built upon until they are finally revealed in the last DLC of Destiny 3, if they give us definitive information at all. Great Vid, it gives me and my Destiny Bros much to talk about.
Ik d2 hasnt givin us lore guys. Especially you lore utube guys anything to work with. Well welcom back oh sleeping prince. And 24min long. Just made my fkn day dude
When the Awoken were born, it was due to the universe splitting as Dark and Light battled and tore reality apart around the Yang Liwei. When the crew of that ship woke up in the Distributary, they were all present and accounted for - except for nine of their number. The laws of the universe couldn’t handle the titanic clash between the invading Darkness and the Traveler’s light, and a black hole formed as a result. These celestial phenomena devour everything and release little to nothing - a vacuum. I submit that the Nine were the nine unaccounted for crew members of the Yang Liwei. They were somehow apart, special, distinct from the rest of the crew, and had a different fate than that of the awoken. They, like Mara Sov, were granted more power than most in this exchange, and carved out their own piece of the emptiness within the black hole - or, more likely, within the emptiness that lay on the other side of the singularity.
There are 9 Gods of This universe, 9 in the void and 9 in the darkens... And make it 27 gods, and Dante explained. I mean hell purgatory and haven (I like Dante don't mind me) BTW a super good video, i ll go back play destiny because of this. Thanks man. Hope you will be able to do more videos like this.
Having never done Trials of the Nine nor watching videos of anything other than match gameplay, I was not prepared for the trippy imagery and floating chick that vaguely reminds me of Fi from Skyward Sword.
This makes sense because if the Traveler was once a resident of the void it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to believe that it can control or at least manipulate how beings (guardians) interact with the void. The most prominent of which would be allowing guardians to return from the void without being broken down and being reborn into something new. This also can be applied to the awoken and their relationship with the void might explain how they came to know and seemingly perform direct communication with the nine although Im not entirely sure about this part...
I see the Void as the wall, the hole, the force that divides and governs dimensions. It draws the power from the Deep and channels it to your will, but without becoming it or becoming corrupted by it. If the Darkness is acid, then the void is the glass beaker that holds and contains it, before the hand that holds it chooses to hurl or spill it out.
I feel that The Nine want to suppress the Darkness instead of eliminate it. Due to the Darkness’ being Sword Logic Incarnate; along with Byf saying that The Nine want to achieve balance in the universe, it would make sense that they would help us suppress the Darkness due to it causing a sort of Cosmic Imbalance by eliminating life on a multiversal scale.
My theory: The Void is a realm of pure paracausal power, and the Nine are those who watch, judge, and maybe even facilitate the use of all paracausal power.
This really cleared up a lot of things about the nine and presented new theories to me. Thanks byf! I love these kinds of vids. When is that new last word lore video coming?
Reminder: This is very out of date theory. Check the description for the actual answer and not my crackpot theory.
Why am I watching this the day you commented this..
When’s Tuesday
Lore is love,
Lore is life,
My name is Byf,
Please do a video about the hunter knife!
Yeah I did make it to rhyme but I don’t actually know a lot about the knife and why hunters use it. Thanks for another awesome video as well My Name Is Byf!
Genji Uprising Shimada they dont anymore because they changed our meelee into a punch
Mandalore the Hunter Ok, cool I wasn't out of the loop 😂 and thanks for clearing it up for me, I haven't played the game in ages
C4MG1RL Space magic
I remember in D1 as we worked our way towards capturing Skolas, Petra Venj would often make remarks about her "surprise" or "astonishment" about The Nine's interest in Skolas.

Though, a few characters have shared or changed VA's. Master Ices and Devrim share one. Brother Vance changed VA's, as did Osiris.
So, really we don't know what's gonna happen with the Queen and the other Awoken that remain.
Wade Davenport oooh i like
+Jacob Biller To add on that, in a Grimoire card that I don't quite remember (You can find it under the Mara Sov category in Ishtar Collective though) it outright states that Mara Sov can go to the void and that only she can do that (in reference to the Awoken).
In that exact same card (I think) Mara telepathically communicates with people across vast distances. So Mara definitely has a connection there.
omg mind blown
maybe byf is one of the nine
:0
Yeah, but he is no seven of nine.
I was just thinking the same thing
Or maybe byf is the nine
his mind might meet the quota of being planet sized
I love the grimoire card where a warlock ( if I remember right) criticize titans for not wondering where their enemies go when they've been swallowed by a titan void melee.
Also I've been thinking as you mentioned the close proximity or passage to the darkness. The hive have been experimenting on titan how to end the tithing system to feed the worms. The darkness probably isn't to happy about that.
Cody Dolloff I'd like to read that one
SirMcDust I'll search ishtar collective for it, I just remember laughing.
Its an audio clip, you can find it in Beard Grizzly's How guardians use the void, for the exaxt reference.
There's evidence that links to the nine disliking the traveller as well
Would it be likely that the darkness could not take from the void to use its power but the traveler(Prometheus) has removed the power(fire) from the void and has made it available to whomever it deems worthy.
Game Sux These theories seem so cool... I wish there was a discord dedicated to destiny lore theories
Bungo is tuning in trying to figure out what their game is about
80sKnight grow up
Brian Nelson sure when you do
This is the greatest comment ever. I can just imagine a bunch of them sitting at a massive oval table with a bunch of pages of original Destiny writing of Statons. Every single one of them perplexed beyond measure just reading and whispering under their breath to themselves "What the fuck?"
Hey It's Eepoch! And where over here doing the same thing.
Lore masters: this totally makes sense
Actual thoughts: what the fuck did I just read?!
80sKnight no, he’s right
Thanks Byf for no giving up on Destiny lore even the game is slow now the lore is amazing
Im just an angry destiny fanboy, was so hyped for d2.. so dissapointed
jezzaw09 no i actually find the lore quite good since D1 with the grimore it was the worst way that could have been presented but theres so much potential on these universe and the lore could grow so much but they seen either too lazy or how ever was the real creator of the lord is no longer working at bungi but men theres so many awesome battles, legends, characters, places even unexplained powers they they basically just throw there without explanation, so much we could get yet they fall short each time
i just love that you present the lore as a story rather than just somebody reading words on a screen. keep up the good work man i love it
Someone can turn this into a religion
Yes. It is called the occult.
It already was ... gloriously have never heard of the ancient nine or the pantheon of the nine spirits or gods... the great Ennead.
Dark stuff... based upon some real esoteric knowledge. Who the hell came up with this game? The reason why this is so odd and disturbing is because a lot of the stuff sounds a lot like things I’ve heard before… But I never expected to see them in a game.
Join us…
The nine Kings of men Lord of the rings
Senrab news eeeehhhhhhhh we have someone who's cultured
One guardian to rule them all.
Tolkien most likely imitated the same mythology that Byf supposed Destiny did.
Grant Gibson that is a pretty good guess
Senrab news explains all the Greek monster names of the Vex.
Veregh same here why still play. Keep look for more lore .
YES!
Randal the Vandal = The Nine CONFIRMED!!!
Kevin Wessels lmbo
I just spat my coffee everywhere.
Have we seen him in Destiny 2?
Will the Thrill in the edz, near the orobas ventura, there spawns 1 reaver vandal at a chance, that is d2s randal the vandal
Randal the Vandal, Greg the Dreg, Hank the Shank and, Will the Thrill.......members of The Nine
the night stalker is addictive. not just in the lore but in the actual game. the invis. mmm
Harrowed Soul yes I use it in D1 I run the gunslinger in d2
Yay. More Destiny lore. If crucible doesn't keep this game alive, you and the other loremasters will.
BTW. Coming off of the heels of the second DLC title leak I'd like to offer you a theory. Cayde is not Rasputin. ALL Exos are Rasputin. They just don't know it.
A-a-ron TheYoung We are Rasputin and we are many
A-a-ron TheYoung i promise the lore masters do more to keep my in destiny than anything else. By far
I played Curse of Osiris for a week when it came out, haven't touched it since. However, I have watched every Byf, MoreConsole, Unknow Player and even Joker video released since. I hate to see this franchise waste all the potential it had to tell a masterpiece of a story.
Jose Burgos I feel like we’ve been here before.
*looks back to Destiny 1.*
Anyone else?
I have endured, I am everywhere... I am Rasputin
In the understanding of this vacuum lies the secret of Void Light."
"...You find the power to punch through and borrow something from the other side..."
So what if Void power is the energy of virtual particles made real by our Light.
That sounds more plausible, since that makes it be an energy source, and one related to light at that.
It does make sense, actually. All three energies are made up of the tinier particles (or waves😁): electrons for Arc, photons for Solar, and whatever the heck dark matter is made up of for Void.
Grant Gibson higgs boson particle aka god particle= void
All three of them are technically photon-based (virtual/exchange particles are usually photons), further connecting it to the Light.
I've been calling him Bif like the guy in Back to the Future this whole time.
Good to have you back! Your videos always impact me in the most positive ways. When you're ready, we'll be here!
Immaterium? As in the Warp from 40k?
Darth Kai hope they have a gellarfield blessed by the omnisiah
Considering how much influence Destiny has taken from 40k it’s not out of the realm of possibility
This is the only reason I still watch destiny videos please keep making these
If the Nine are Void gods who exist within the void and if the Traveler came from the same Void then could the Traveler be one of the nine?
lunar lion
Doubtful. They seem to be very much opposite forces.
It’s more likely the Traveler was sent BY the nine
Traveler is 10 maybe?
Dekuton Willowtear nah more like the Traveler is a tool or creation of the nine that was sent to our side to “balance” the realm as byf said
lunar lion Cool theory, but the nine are something from after the golden age unfortunately, saying they “made a choice, unlike the awoken”
Oh man Byf. This is the best video you've put out in so long. I'm so happy right now! Great work, you are the master
I said it from the start that when we get our taken king style update they will introduce a fourth subclass and this info just strengthens that theory. Great stuff though. Haven’t played in months but still love the lore! Wish I wanted to play! :(
JDirty 1 It sucks that you’re right, but off by one game.
Holy shit you called the future
Byf..I have to admit it..I have stopped playing D2.. however I can't get enough of this channel and love the lore of destiny...keep up the good work yooo
I miss these deep lore videos.
Byf this is some of the best theorycrafting you've ever done. I bet bungie is furiously writing all this down for later use.
A huge THANK YOU for making this video. I’ve really been looking forward for this! Didn’t disappoint. Thanks for being awesome and for still making lore videoes.
Thoughts on the new warmind DLC leak?
See you at GuardianCon.
Best voice nominees for the gaming category are My name is Byf and Rhykker. Truly outstanding and should be doing voice over work professionally.
Keep making these Byf, I really love these lore videos. Destiny's lore has potential to bring us something really good.
The void surrounds all things... void is the force confirmed?
depressed_snail the nine are the council and seek balance of the force
Are you high rn
You must, feeeel the void around you
I am one with the void and he void is with me, I am one with the void and the void is with me.
With their being many warlocks attempting many crazy things with the void, sooner or later one is going to try and combine the elements.
liam hehir that or we harness the dark, that’s the last element I can think of we haven’t tapped into.
Master of the lyokian monsters ya whenever I think of the darkness I think of the exo stranger. She doesn't have a ghost but seems to have powers of the light. If dark were to ever become an element our guardian might have to give something up to obtain that power.
Zaver Sinha if we have dark matter than enemies beware.
The sniper is the borealis.
Loved it, Byf! I'll be keeping an eye out now for any other possible links in lore to the Nine. And thank you for continuing to explore this rich and interesting universe bungie had crafted. It always makes me smile knowing I'm not the only one who enjoys the cosmology of the Destinyverse!
wait sentinels use void light but their is no sign of them being corrupted like void walkers and nightstalkers.
Maybe their connection and resilience is stronger than that of the other two
Ali Kazan Maybe so... Titans have 10 resilience lol
Hunters and Warlocks are both known to question and experiment with things more than the average Titan does, which might have something to do with the "corruption."
B Lenno lol that's true 😆
Their abilities are limited to only using what they need. And as previously stated by the other guy, they don't experiment with it. Hunters try to be creative with it to use it cuz hunters get bored. Warlocks like to study and want to see what else these abilities can "elements" can do. Both of which require u to free your mind and soul. Thus why it seems that they can be corrupt. Just like the taken
Your lore videos help spark the interest I once had in Destiny's lore, but it fizzles quickly when I recall how Bungie tells it themselves.
BYF! I sent you that! ON TWITTTER! THE NINE GODS THING! i'm shaking omg i didn't think it would make it into a video.
I'm a student of esotericism and the occult. And this is where my mind has gone exactly and why this game is my favorite despite it's many, many flaws. I have nothing to say atm of this but yeah, i think you are on the completely right track.
Damn, you do your research good
All I keep thinking of is The Elder Scrolls universe, with the immortal plane, Aetherius, and the Mortal plane, Mundus, bordered by the plane of Oblivion, which is essentially a void and home to the Daedric Princes(gods) in their Planes of Oblivion. Their are also the Nine Divines, or Aedra, if you count Talos. Sounds quite similar
Also, the daedra also aid those who help them through their relics, some being invaluable, and attack those who danger them, and wage war with each other.
Joe 888 that’s what I’m thinkin
I know Destiny is at an all time low but listening to Byf's videos really gets me into the lore and how great it is even if the game is lacking. So thank you Byf for making these great videos for all of us. You truly are a legend.
I think the traveler is part of the nine
I agree . With xur
I haven't even begun to watch the video yet, but the moment I heard "Materium and Immaterium" I immediatly thought; Byf, your 40k is showing.
I still believe the darkness and the nine are one in the same playing at Cosmic chess game
I doubt it. The Darkness wants to get rid of the Light. The Nine seem to be saying that the universe needs both Light and Dark(ness).
We just know them as beginning route for the hive to be connected with the darkness but then where did their Darkness come from
I discovered part of a golden age chant that was used by those seeking the power of the Traveler:
"Great beast of the sky, please hear my cry. Transform thyself from orb of light and bring me victory in this fight..."
The rest was illegible but there was a part about "shadow games"
Maybe nine created a traveler?
Always love your lore man but this one really had me hooked all the way through. Top work man!
Damn this is deep af
My name is Byf said he would explain the craziest things and since I've been here almost since his first couple vids i was pumped
Byf, even though this game is dead I will watch it for you
Caleb Henry Considering there are literally hundreds of thousands of players playing Destiny 2 right now, is argue its very much alive.
Master of the lyokian monsters considering it’s lost 90% of the player base is argue it is dead/dying
Boyllr actually no it isn’t. Have you played the game recently?
Like how the scroll bar lines up perfectly with the introduction of the immaterium
Hello, my name is byf
‘s subscriber!😋😋😋
More lore on the Nine. Trials of the Nine is my favorite part of D2, plus Xur's been apart of it since D1.
Bungie probably watch videos like these and that's bow they write new Lore
Byf's Lore videos are the only thing I care about concerning Destiny any more
void=speedforce
Yellow that's a weird one. But I get where you're coming from
Speed?!?! 4th subclass?!?!
The way you laid out the description of the void is on par with how science describes Dark matter.
Inb4 "Destiny 2 is dead" comments.
Oisin Lynch true that brother!
Oisin Lynch same
Me too my guy
Casey Kordell yeah, kept that toxic crap away from our lore!
Tristen Brummett I think they’re trying to make something of Destiny’s very...complicated lore.
This is the kind of story telling that makes me love Bungie. Whether this is true or not, what theories it spawns is amazing.
Hearing you say so certainly that they're here to help us suggests to me that Nezarec is not a member of The Nine, but another, possibly even more powerful Void Lord.
these lore videos gives me chills
The Void being where the dead go...
Imagine way later on in D2 finding some confused nightstalker without memory of where he is or how he got there, and you slowly realize he's a "resurrected" form of Cayde-6.
Xur has said that there's a door opening in the woods in game
Just putting this out there, but the lore tab on "It Stared Back" seems to indicate that Calus actually encountered the Void and saw "a thing greater than myself."
3:20 this line somehow reminded me of the line from the "Prophecy of the Undead" from Dark Souls - "the fate of the Undead thou shalt know"
Bungie: "Counsel of Nine Gods? Eggs Creation Theory? Man, we didn't ever know about this stuff! We just generated random phrases!"
my boy Byf back at it again with the fresh lore vid!
I have a addiction problem with your videos byf. I watch these things constantly when I play
You missed one big part about how the Nine seek balance: the Nine were responsible for freeing Skolas in House of Wolves. Xur showed up with the key to let him out. I felt at the time the Nine existed to feed conflict, but maybe it is a sense of balance.
You keep this game alive, thank you.
9:01 this aged in an interesting way
Oh shit. Got chills
Brilliant. Just brilliant! All I can think of is the upright chaos this video would cause in the community, had D2 no died :(
A few side notes about today's lore.
Honestly, that voice on the Radio sounded a bit like the Exo Stranger, though your argument towards it being the Emissary is certainly more solid.
love it. Even if I don't play the games much anymore, the storys and lore of destiny are still awesome to hear about
I see the Void as the wall, the hole, the force that divides and governs dimensions.
My theory:
The Void is a realm of pure paracausal power, and the Nine are those who watch, judge, and maybe even facilitate the use of all paracausal power.
Emissary of the Nine: I am the door.
Heisenberg: I am the one who knocks. :p thanks for the awesome video Byf
This really cleared up a lot of things about the nine and presented new theories to me. Thanks byf! I love these kinds of vids. When is that new last word lore video coming?
Byf: here we have the materium and the immaterium.
Me, a casual Warhammer fan: mm yes, I know this part.
