IDK? I've never taken the top caps off prior to removing the lower Allen bolt being the spring pressure helps prevent the internals from spinning like yours was..... but this is a very common problem with people who were driving through ponds and streams with worn out seals or just leaving them out in the rain for decades doesn't help the situation. Oil floats so the water is now sitting on the very bottom were the steel hardware is holding everything together. That was some good welding skills to be able to get a hold on the recessed Allenhead! Nice! Was just browsing through and saw this video, in the middle of rebuilding a Yamaha ATC which uses basically the identical type forks, but done plenty of the 200X's and 250R's forks before and I think we've almost all had either a stripped head or rusted threads on these old machines. 😉
What did you use to to keep the spring pin from just spinning to tighten the bottom bolt? I get mine rubes about 4-5 threads and then it just keeps spinning.
Fucking great the same thing just happen to me the piece of shit Allen wrench slot fucking stripped out completely and all I have is a piece of shit harbor freight welder great. Guess I won't be replacing the seal after all.
Thanks for the video, helped me build the confidence to rebuild my own atc forks

I’m getting ready to do my 85 forks. I have the shop manual but really enjoyed your video.
Yea, it's not to bad a job with manual, but watching the process can also help put the process together. Thanks for watching.
An impact driver is a tool u use with a hammer. Not meaning an impact gun. Just an FYI. Less chance of stripping it.
Should mention seal goes tapered end out when installing
you did not show the way you removed them :/
Shouldn't the 350x forks be the same concept?
What are the air caps on the top of the forks? To add air or fluid or something later on? I always wondered. Thanks
Did you ever make the video for the rear shock?
No sorry, life happened and crazy busy.
Oh ok no worries. You mention using 10w in the front. What oil weight is stock for the rear?
