Elected official should have his/her priority straight and that is to support the people who selected him. First is the local, then the state and finally federal level, regardless of party affiliation.
I love those who criticize what they call ‘woke’ mobs, cancel culture etc. without apparently giving any thought whatsoever to the fact that most religious leaders, on the Christian side John the Baptist, Jesus himself, the apostles, to Martin Luther, and up to the present, all advocated for helping awaken people who lived in various states of political, economic, societal, sexist etc. bondage. Then, re cancel culture, they forget, or rather never learned, that 1/3 of African men stolen from their homes to become slaves in the west died within the first three years of captivity…often in transit. And you talk about CANCEL? Next, tell us all about the little School children who had their lives CANCELLED by the violence generating industries, violent media, the infamous NRA, ETC trying to convince us we need to carry assault weapons around like scared little dweebs who believe in conspiracy theories. Our whole society has become one big scene from the ‘Escape from New York’ movie. That’s a CANCEL CULTURE dude! 🤮
He sounds like a lot of Democrats here in Texas were called Shivercrats. Voted Dem local, and Republican nationally. Then just changed to flat voting Republican period as the national Democratic party attacked them. There are, but the majority updated their status & registered as republicans. Very few are able to even associate with the left anymore as it hasn't been the dem party since Clinton. The moment hillary was let in the door, that pty was done for! And whatever was left osama finished off!

Romney, McConnell, Cornyn, McCarthy, Murkowski, and many other Federal politicians are Republican on paper but are really more concerned with enriching themselves and remaining in power than they are with governing or representing their constituents. Repeal the 17th. Reduce Federal outlays to 50% of current levels and freeze them there. Abolish the FBI, DEA, and NSA. Impose term limits for the House and Senate. Convene an Article V Convention of States and propose The Liberty Amendments to the state houses for ratification. These are the minimum steps for preserving the American Republic.

I know it seems just waaay to difficult to imagine given the way politics have gone over the last 20 years, but there was a time that there WERE such a thing as a moderate Democrat who would not slavishly follow party platforms. There USED to be moderate Democrats, pro-life Democrats and Pro 2A Democrats that would reach across party lines and debate legislation and come up with good policies and laws for the ALL citizens of their Districts. Likewise there were Establishment RINOs and Neo-Conservatives in the Republican party who failed to stand up for core party platforms and would reach across party lines only to enrich themselves. Those days are a memory.
That is why the MAJORITY of his state and I think it true as well nationally, that the voters are tired of the partisan politics of BOTH parties and call themselves "Independent".
Just take for example so many of the classical liberal and minority voters who have been red-pilled who used to vote Democrat, but are appalled at what the Democrat party has done since 2021 and/or supported Trump and Trump endorsed candidates. They might not be ready to vote straight Republican ticket yet, but they will no longer support the Democrats Leftist agenda. This could translate into just not showing up at the polls and casting a ballot on Election Day or voting AGAINST the Democrat candidates on the ballot in local and State elections and well as those for US Congress.

I looked at a local forum to check the political temperature, and predictably, most republicans admire his integrity, while most Democrats are certainly not impressed. Unfortunately, you really take a beating most places on the Internet fail to spew vitriol towards anything even barely right of center. I do keep in mind though that the Internet seldom paints a very reliable picture of the political scene in your community, or of the actual will of the people.
