Thank you. Wasn't my best race out there. It all went a bit wrong but so pleased with myself for touching it out. 👌 Thanks for watching, appreciate that 👍
Congrats Stu. Immortality has arrived at your doorstep. Feel proud, you've done something 99.9% of us couldn't possibly do. You are a STAR! A SUPERB AND TRULY DEDICATED ATHLETE! ...although if my rants to both the IronMan board and Bolton council are listened to along with - hopefully - many other people's similar pleas, then it might again some day be reinstated as a full event.
@@SwimBikeRunStu Stu, I've watched your vids and those of other IronManners (if ever that becomes a word) about a gazillion times, but just look back at 0:29 or maybe 0:30 and freeze it. The love and devotion your good wife has for you is plain for us all to see in her eyes. This from a chap about to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and I still massively LOVE my wife, so I *know*' pure adoration when I see it. And from a year-long IronMan semi-widow, I guess?
@@SwimBikeRunStu Hey Stu, hope you are enjoying in your spectator/fan role right now as I type at 8pm this Sunday, and into the dying embers of IronMan Wales. To assuage my pain of not being there to watch and cheer, I got a short but jolting "methadone high" today by going to the top of a notorious 1km climb, culminating in a 1 in 4, Grade 1 ascent known as The Rake in Ramsbottom, Bury. This of course (no pun intended there) is day one of the Tour of Britain, round Gtr Manc. Oh my goodness, they made that climb look DISGUSTINGLY easy. Most of 'em never even got out of their saddles.
Amazing effort Stu, loved following your journey which has inspired me to keep getting out there training for IM Wales. Having a supportive partner is so important, I think mine will be glad when it’s over. Again well done your definitely an Ironman and thanks for documenting the journey.
Thank-you and thank you for watching. You got this. You will be great in Wales. I will be there cheering you. I'm not a good athlete so I feel good that I can inspire in my own way.
Thank you Stu, your support in Wales will be very welcome, I’m not an athlete either and just want to get round. I’ll keep an eye out for you in Tenby 👍
This is up there as one of my fav vids on YT. Welldone Stu! It's not how hard you hit, its how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward!! Very Impressive.
Amazing Stu!! You should be so proud. From so many set backs, self inflicted and not. You have persevered, bounced back and finally got there!!! Bring on Vichy!!!!
Finally ticked one of. Felt good to tough it out with an injury. Had I not had so many setbacks i think I would have stopped for sure. Being in hospital last year made me appreciate days like this even more.
Very well done, Stu . Really tough course and conditions. You personified the IM spirit by dealing with injury and kept battling on through adversity. Respect and chappeau from an ex triathlete/8x IM finisher. Great videos ...really enjoyed your journey.
Thank you. Its very much appreciated. I didn't want to let it beat me. A longer day than anticipated but super pleased to get to that finish within the time limit.
Epic Stu, having heard your back-story the day before I know you will treasure that medal! IMUK is bloody tough. I was blown sideways more than once on the bike course. You see the human spirit at its best at the start-line and the finish-line of an Ironman and everywhere in between. Its just a magical event. Where are we going next year? Stuart Liggins "YOU ARE AN IRONMAN".
Yeh it was a win for me just to get to that start line. Looked like you had a good race. The down hill crosswinds were horrible. Thought I was going to come of a few times.
Congratulations on becoming an Ironman, to carry on with your injuries show’s impressive levels of resilience🎉 I was volunteering on the practice swim Saturday & it was rough! Was doing a recce for next year so gutted that it was cancelled 2 days later! So I will be following your Vichy exploits with extra interest now 🇫🇷
Thanks for volunteering. That's ace. Shame about next year but Vichy is an amazing place to race. Plenty of climbing but the run is flat. Was rough in all that wind for sure.
Yes mate was an amazing day. I only just made bike cut off as was taking in the atmos and did not take time seriously so had to really belt out last lap! So pleased to finish it! 😍🙏
Well done on completing Ironman Bolton. My daughter took part she was an age group qualifier she turned 18, 15 days ago and we’re in your video at 1.26 and at 16.20. It’s been her dream since she was 11 years old . 🎉 congratulations
Firstly you are amazing for being out there supporting. And your daughter is a badass smashing that course. Brutal out there. I bow down to her awesomeness 👌
Congrats. The organisers needed to give their head a wobble with the Roman Road additions to the bike course. No big surprise it's been discontinued. The lack of support from Chorley council was the kiss of death. My home roads that I trained on when I needed a really tough session.
To be honest i chose to do it as it was so hard and difficult. Hated and loved that bike all at the same time. Without getting injured and without the wind it would have been a completely different day out.
Loved watching your journey and epic achievement 👏 It wasn’t to be for me as I had to withdraw on the swim and am thoroughly disappointed. You’re an inspiration and completed it, you are an Ironman and should be very proud of yourself 💪
Sorry to hear you had to withdraw. I've been there many times. Its tough at the time but it makes you more determined and makes you experience that finish line even more. You will be back stronger than ever.
@@SwimBikeRunStu I am looking into overcoming my injury and what I can do differently next time. Lots to take away from it but yes hoping to come back stronger next time. Well done again, your video is great and I am really pleased for you 👏👏
DNF's are hard, been there, it hurts. The upside is that when you do complete it its twice the buzz!! Sign up again - analyse your failures, dont let it beat you.
Mate, I finished half an hour or so before you. It was brutal... that wind was insane. Awesome job and well done on pushing till the end. Toughest course in the world. Absolutely insane conditions. Last ever Bolton... you are a legend :D
This is what I love to hear. Congratulations on your finish. The wind made it a bloody tough day out. The cross wind descents were scary at times. You are most certainly a badass legend 👌
Absolutely awesome effort Stu, fantastic perseverance to get the finish and hear those iconic words "You are an Ironman". Many congratulations 🏊🚴♀️🏃💪👏🔥
Thank you very much. It meant alot to hear them words after a tough day out. Never nice to get an injury on race day but pleased I dug in and got it done 👌
Amazing result, really inspiring to see the determination not to give up, especially when you're towards the back. I'm in a similar position (with shorter distances), always at the back and it's sometimes a bit difficult when you feel left behind. Nice job!
Great work Stu, was getting emotional watching you got across the line, can't believe they are changing Bolton but will interesting to see if they add another full distance.
Solid effort buddy, you did it! That bike course was totally savage, but keep in mind that every ride you ever do from this point forward will be easier than that!
Well done man, fantastic. That cycle with the wind was tough never mind doing it while carrying an injury. Great example of what the Ironman journey is about
Congratulations Stu on completing your Ironman…and thank you for having your distinctive beard. It really helped with spotting you 😁 Massive respect for carrying on with your injuries and getting through that marathon section. That medal and race with be memories forever! Hope you’re recovering well and the big question is….are you wanting to do another one 🤔
Thank you very much. Was tough to walk a marathon but I'm glad I soldiered on through the pain. And yes I have another ironman in 6 weeks 🙈 Hoping this calf and hamstring settle down.
You say that Rachel but there were a whole lot of other bushy beards out there on the day. I was looking out for but didn't specifically pick out Sir Stu the Stud of a Serious Sportsman (no sarcasm there, I'm in genuine awe of the lot of yers) on the day...but I spent the day clapping and/or cheering every single tremendous athlete on, so I'm sure you, Mr Liggins, heard me giving it plenty...although there was a great bloke just downslope from me even more wildly enthusiastic with his whistle, his cowbell and his constant "DOOSH, DOOSH, GET UP THAT HILL" refrain. btw - Stu, re your comments: "super proud" and "super, super, super pleased" are exactly as you should feel, but how far on the bike did you have left when your injuries happened? Also, if you'd been able to run, given how much energy you still had in the tank, what time would you have reasonably expected to marathon in? And how are you and said ailments now, a week on?
Congratulations Ironman Stu! The little interlude you left in from Jenna (against her request 😉) shows the realism of the endurance from the support - great little piece to camera
Incredible achievement Stu, same as with Ultras, I have as much of not more respect for the last finisher as I do the winner, to tough it out when your injured shows your mental toughness, well done 👏👏👏
I thought i had recognised you in the hotel! 🤣 I took part in the ironman on Sunday and I watched you griz out that marathon clearly in a lot pain but very well done for finishing!!
