It's really good for the game that Leo, Sparg0, and Maister can come here a lot and set the bar so high, but I wish Zackray, Shuton, and Proto could do the same.
The dude is a monster. He goes super saiyan essentially and dude just has amazing reflexes and reaction. I don’t know if he’s memorized all the animations like some do in other fighting games but he’s just cracked to put it lightly

Kola has become my favorite player. Because of his full aggro style and how ppl trashed him when he won his first major recently. The fact that he got as far as he did in this tournament with all these top players Proves that he earned that major. I also like Proto. His Lucina is a beast. I wish the Japanese players can travel more but I understand that is a lot of money coming back and forth. But I enjoy watching their matches. I have always wanted to see Kola vs Proto. I loved it.

It's a glorious time for being a Kola fan. I also love how the Japanese players are appreciating his playstyle. Reminds me of when I first saw Kolas Roy. I feel like Proto isn't used to such an aggressive playstyle. I'm sure he will adapt in future matches and I'm looking forward to it
This set was super good one to watch. Wanted Proto to win so that he could fight Leo, and Proto is one of my favorite players, but good stuff to Proto and Kola. It seems like post Mainstage or Port priority, Kola has improved quite a bit and fixed up some flaws in his gameplay. Also, it is cool to see that players like Light and Kola, who play fast characters very well, are very aggressive, and have very strong reaction timing, give Japan trouble. Makes sense as Japan is more methodical and slow pace generally with their play
I'd say it was after Port Priority that Kola stepped things up. Keep in mind that even though Kola took 9th at Mainstage he lost to Tea and Spargo which are very understandable losses imo. Also in an interview on EE's channel that happened after SWT NA East Regional Finals, Kola said that the player he wanted to play against the most was Proto, so I was fully expecting him to have something up his sleeve. Wouldn't say that I was expecting him to win necessarily, but I was expecting it to at least be closer than most people would think.

Kola and Proto are two of my favorite players to watch, but I like both of them for very different reasons, so seeing them face each other was really cool to watch!
Love the mix of styles. Proto’s Lucina is so different and imaginative. Kola’s Roy is the ultimate textbook player, doing perfect in all the basics and knowing his character. Just amazing

People say Marth is worse, but there is nothing stopping him from being a good character still. This is why I believe Nairo and Leo dropped Lucina. When she gets overwhelmed it's hard to make a comeback unless you get a crazy edge guard. Plus you've got to play top tier every game and that's just not gonna happen every time

@@thrillainthemanilla1409 To some extent, IMO. I think proto did not space well most of the time. He let Roy get in way to close. As Lucina, despite her not having tippers, using maximum distance against Roy will help keep Roy from landing those nasty sweet-spot attacks. He could have also used Lucina's counter to dunk Roy's Up B recovery or stop the constant juggling (although of course you have to time it right). As for Min Min, not something I know to elaborate too much, on. I think Proto could have used up smash, a flurry attack (or even down smash in very limited scenarios) out of shield more often, since Kola kept getting close.

She has spacing options but Roy is too fast so if she whiffs she’s getting serious damaged into her bad disadvantage state. If you look at Kolas jabs in this almost all of them close range attacks came after whiffs, reads or disadvantage. Her spacing options aren’t enough to keep Roy out, her floatyness ensures she’s taking 50 percent every time she gets touched, her weight ensures she’ll get killed consistently before 100% and her attack recover frames ensure she eats hard punishes in whiffs. It’s really just a blender for her. Min Min just struggle with fast characters like fox/Roy/etc. BUT I have seen Proto destroy a sonic player so maybe he was just off with her today

I used to think that Lucina won the Roy matchup, but after seeing this match and your points, I think you might be right. That being said, I think Proto did let himself get juggled too hard. He wasn't used to such an aggressive and fast Roy and tried to contest Roy in the air too much when he should have at least tried to air dodge more to land. Eh, anyway... sucks, Proto lost, now everyone can say Roy > Lucina, even I want to believe it 😠. 😅

Shuton says US players are more proactive and Japanese players are more reactive. He does not mean which is better, however for that tendency, few Japanese player can react to Kola’s play. It’s because no Japanese player plays like that aggressively and have no experience of Kola’s speed.
I really think if Proto went Min Min from the beginning it could have panned out a lot differently. Even though he lost that last game, I think with further adaptation the Min Min would have fared better than the Lucina in the long run. Lucina's just too honest against a character like Roy, I feel. But I guess we'll never know. If you're from Japan, good luck beating Kola (unless your name is Tea).
Proto doesn't like fighting rushdown characters like Fox and Roy as Min Min. He's taken losses to Kome's Shulk too with Min Min because Shulk has Speed and Jump Arts to zone break. I think Proto just needs to clean up his edgeguards against Roy. When Proto is dominant with Lucina, it's when he's getting successful edgeguards. We saw some here but not nearly enough when he's winning with Lucina.
Proto threw so hard here. He started his min min match scared as hell and got styled on. By the time he picked himself back up he was at a severe disadvantage.

Wow , amazing , the craziest thing is that Kola push Proto to switch Lucina to Noodles, which was a really fair fight against Roy, i was little disappointed on the other side that proto was not fair enough to stay with lucina, really nice set

I've been a Roy main since melee and I must say it feels good to see someone bring our boy to the big leagues I myself am pretty good I even made it to elite smash but I'm nothing like this lol.
