Great comment by Liu Xin on just the difference of responsible reporting. No wonder we have so much chaos!

Ms. Liu Xin's answer regarding reporting is accurate and complete information.
The gentleman's focus is freedom of reporting, including freedom of injecting the reporters' personal opinions, cherry picking the info ect. that introduces bias information - a common practice of the western media.

I’ve been a fan of Liu Xin since she schooled a Fox News anchor, Trish Regan, many years ago on her live show. She’s so professional, intelligent, and speaks perfect English. She still anchors interview programs on CGTN, which you can find on UA-cam. It’s healthy to hear the Chinese point of view at least once in a while, whether or not you agree with everything she or her guests say. Understanding China today is something all Americans should strive to do, just as Chinese strive to know America more.
Definitely there are more Chinese people understanding the US than Americans understanding China.
@@Dhsu4321 I definitely agree with that.
@@Dhsu4321The US is too divisive where as China is more unified. This can’t be changed in a short amount of time nor should it. In other words, I feel it’s difficult to get everyone in the US on the same page without encroaching on someone’s “freedom”. 😂
@@mikewhocheeseharry5292 It is absurd that people normally think Americans are more open compared to Chinese, but in reality Americans are more cocooning within their own comfort zones. They should travel more out of their cocoons to understand the whole world.
Here’s the fact: Liu Xin and I went to the same high school and the same University in 90s. We shared the same campuses when we were young adults but we didn’t speak to each other mostly because she was two years senior than me. Not the same social group back then. However, I witnessed her successful journey in winning the international public speech contest and paved her career path step by step in CCTV, a centralized state owned media syndicate. I never doubt that her English language skill is beyond excellent, but I expect an anchor to have more solid skill sets in social studies. CGTN is again, a state owned media institution. Frankly speaking, I view it as a powerful propaganda machine rather than a reliable news resource about China. To those Americans who want to understand China, may I suggest you guys learn the Chinese language to a certain level besides watching UA-cam shows. That language ability will bring you more information on historical, social, political and economic perspectives when trying to understand China today. As to Trish Regan, I would say--speaking of being professional and intelligent, raise the bar higher, shall we?
Good presentation by Liu Xin.

Because of her reporting style here in America, I began watching reporting styles in China to see differences and they to were positive. It was so refreshing I’m not gonna lie.
Western media are pure sht
Yes. A lot of times people assume Chinese “propaganda” (as people call it) to be the same as American propaganda (slander, negative, makes you feel enraged). Chinese propaganda is more the “WE CAN DO IT!” kind of messaging. They emphasize social harmony and the spirit of anything is possible. Very little hateful messaging of America in their news. That’s why no matter how much negative press in the U.S. has made people hateful towards Chinese people, you’ll never see be treated that way in China.
dialogue between media platforms amd professionals, this is a very important aspect. media outlets in US, and western in general, have lost its profession root and basic guidance, has become part of political establishment and mouth pieces, the results are selective through ideological view, biased, poisonous

simple logic. but the west still cannot make it.
American reporter is very Aggressive.
They - American reporters - are ALL mostly like that. They have to try to MAKE news or else, they will have nothing sensational to "report". Hence, they either force an issue or they create an issue or they give their own opinion or make up some fancy fairytale - anything to make their "news" appear "great" and noticeable. They are like the circus and sideshow barkers trying to get attention from the crowds. The same tactic is seen here in Australian reporters and journalists as well as they have been learning from their U.S. "Masters" on how to make news.
yet more and more unconvincing

She keep mentioning about the homeless in every interview. But hey, it is true. Anyone that lives in cali see how homelessness, drug uses and mental crisis is a problem. And all of these adds up to being homeless.
Maybe Raj should have become annoyed and said, "People keep mentioning homelessness in San Francisco as if it is the most important thing... " Maybe acting annoyed will make it all go away, just like that Chinese spokesperson, aka "reporter" when asked about freedom
One observation from a comment said that the streets were cleared of the homeless for Xi's visit. For China, it is important to help the homeless and given the opportunity to get out of poverty.
Cheap ingredients for fentanyl are sent from China to Mexico. Mexico makes fentanyl and brings it to the US... homelessness & substance abuse!
ABC7 News asked her the same question about whether she has the freedom to report or is restricted by her government. So I understood why she was annoyed at that question lol.
She's annoyed because she can not say there is freedom. Listen to her answer. That's a government spokesperson response 😂
That's because CGTN America is the international division of the state-owned media organization China Central Television (CCTV). CGTN is under the control of the Publicity Department of the Chinese Communist Party. Observers have noted that the aim of CGTN is to influence public opinion overseas in order to nudge foreign governments into making policies favorable towards China's Communist party through subtle means. NBC, on the other hand, is not state-owned media. It is not under the control of the U.S. federal government.

0:51 In reality the same question should be asked to every US mainstream media journalist or anchor. Operation mockingbird!
Raj’s beginning remark is “was there a winner in all these” which reflects US’ zero-sum mentality instead of saying whether the 2 nations would work cooperatively together with each other to solve world issues & build a better peaceful world.
that’s what I was thinking about too
freedom of reporting one side-information is critical to maintain the legitimacy of US regime, and the legitimacy of Israel siege of Gaza...
it is freedom of lie...
Liu Xin nailed it. I would love to see the Media have all the country's freedom & democracy & human rights to condemn Israel's war crimes against Palestinians.
Certainly Liu Xin is right that China ought to streamline visa applications and make getting a visa easier. I remember back in the 80s and 90s when you just went to the embassy, filled out a form, and then got a 30-day, or 90-day, or 120-day, single- or double-entry visa the following week. It was so easy. Now, it's a big, complicated process: Fill in a form online (with a lot of frankly irrelevant questions), upload photos, go to the visa office to submit your application, get fingerprinted, fill out more forms regarding health and previous travel to other countries and to China. Long wait times. Lots of people end up choosing to go to another country instead.
❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤
I think they are doing this because that’s what Chinese citizens have to do to come to the USA.
Both sides should streamline visa applications. As a Chinese student studying in the U.S. I've heard many fellow phd students got admitted by US universities but couldn't be on site due to the visa issue. And one friend of mine got her visa cancelled during her visit to her families in China, and she just finish her first year of phd... A good relationship between the two well definitely benefits many many people who just want to develop their career, learn a different culture, have a different perspective, and lots of other things.
@@ChangLiu-y2t Yes, there appears to be a lot more scrutiny of Chinese students' visa applications, some of it is looking into possible connections to the Party, or to certain Chinese universities that are viewed with suspicion now. These problems might only affect students from China. A recent article mentioned that while the number of Chinese students in the US are down, the number of students from India have increased a lot. There are fewer, in any, political/strategic problems between India and the US.
It's a problem. Chinese students tend to do very well in the US, and are good at integrating into American society. Let's hope the situation improves.

Kudos to Raj Mathai and Liu Xin for this great interview. I’m especially impressed at how professional and well-spoken Liu is and at Raj’s ability to ask some uncomfortable questions. At their peak right before Covid the numbers of American expats and students in China were about 250,000. Adding Europeans, Canadians and Australians there were like a million westerners living in China. The numbers have declined somewhat but still plenty.
