A while ago you suggested the PLSK1 to me and I recently had the chance to acquire one. I was apprehensive as this was the most expensive knife I have ever purchased but since I received it, it has literally NOT left my side! I would have to say this is by far the best knife I have ever had the pleasure of using or owning. Thank you for such an amazing tool and even more for the great teachings! God bless you brother!
I have used a knife since I was about 6, in my mid 40s now. I didn't think I needed to learn any other knife skills. About 5 years ago my kids and I were shrafting, I power cut a limb and not three seconds later my son walked through the circle of blood where my followthrough would have gotten him in the neck. Had he been three seconds earlier, I'd be in the nut house now. Thankfully I learned and now I practice proper knife skills. Good to see you doing this Dave. If this saves anyone it's wo
Another great video. With all the stuff going around about knife safety right now is very good for the community. When you've been doing it since a kid we get reckless sometimes and good to get back to basics. Speaking of. your basic was worth every penny and then some. Thanks for all you do for this community.
I agree brotha. I've grown to love the Black! Glad I picked up one from your web store several months ago. They do carve well!!!!! I was suprised at how long it stays sharp also. I've also grown fond of the Habilis Trade Knife. Great value also.Great job Dave!
My first thought, "I could dry that crap out and start a TON of fires with them..." And then you made the bird nest comment lol!!!! God I love fire WAY too much sometimes haha!!
Dave....I was in the last year or so working on a small compressor, cutting some vents in plastic with a small pen knife and I slipped and the small knife (I was choked up on the blade so only 1/2 was exposed) severed an artery in my wrist. I think about knife handling and anything pointy handling every waking moment now. I see a lot of videos by others that make me cringe........be it knife handling or just operating powered machines. Keep up the good work, my friend.
when you swung your arm around showing the blood circle I flinched when it went by the camera...great videos... i was thinking about a series of videos on simple meals when you are out camping like hardtack or sweet bread.
another great informational video! really enjoy watching a few vids almost every day to wind down, and want to let everybody know how good your pathfinder store is, i ordered a adventure tarp and a bottle cook set last wednesday and got it today(monday),great service and great products, thanks!
I've watched several of your videos all of them have been well done, easy to understand and I've learned so much from them. What I would like to know is if you have a video showing how to sharpen your knives especially out in the bush. How often do the knives you personally own get dull and need sharpening?
Dave i have to say you have pretty much saved my life in many occasions haha! But your videos are the best ones out there. You don't just focus on either bushcraft or reviewing items, you test everything and you give tips on many things. I love the vids and keep up the good work! Oh and if you were to recommend a good ferrocerium rod what would you say?
It's hard to beat a Mora for a good common man bushcraft knife. I have one of your leather sheaths for mine and that improves it greatly in my opinion.
I'm never in the woods and always cutting myself with no risk of infection and tons of soap and water a few feet away. I've learned so many bad habits.
About 5 years ago my friend bought a fire starter, we had no idea how to use it and he was cutting the magnesium off and striking with the blade edge. Needless to say, after just a few attempts the knife wasn't in the greatest shape lol.
Hey Dave, I was wondering if the coating on the blade needs to be removed in order to use it with flint for fire starting? In pictures I've seen, it appears to be more of an anodized finish rather than a heavy black coating like the TOPS and Becker knives have on them. Great video by the way.
Hey dave. Could u please do a video explaining wich is better to carry when bushcrafting or trapping the scout tomahawk or the nessmuk double blade belt axe. This would be greatly appreciated.
Dave, I see you were just on a few minutes ago so I thought I would tell you how valuable I have found your videos. Keep up the good work. Do you have your camp recipes collected somewhere?
We have the luxury of UA-cam and a Dave Canterbury. Dave, Who was your Dave Canterbury? How long did it take to get the knowledge you have? I know you talk about Boone, Nessmuk and others. You are not old enough to have hung with them and you cannot get all this from their writings.
Mr Canterbury. I am going to purchase a knife in the next day or so from your website. I have noticed that you r carying the pathfinder scout alot more. I like the PLSK1 but would like your input. I recieved the Brothers of Bushcraft knife from sigma three not real happy with it. Which of the two between PLSK1 and Pathfinder Scout would you recomend. Any feed back would help
Thanks for this tutorial. I've been working with my son on some of these techniques, but now I can just get him to watch this video. I bought him the Mora 511 from your store for $8. By the way, when will the Pathfinder Scout be back in stock?
Hey Dave, I've been watching season one of Dual Survival on Netflix. I noticed in a few episodes you were carrying a big, black knife. What kind of knife was that? It looked nice and well used.
Dave im a big fan but I was wondering what is the bigest thi you can catch with a 110 body trap.can you use cardbord to turn it into a foot trap. Please please anser me back
Dave, what are your thoughts on the Condor Bushlore that you sell at your store for under $50. I have that knife and it is a really solid knife, much more so I would think than a rat tail tang Mora. I paid $30 for Bushlore, and for the money it can't be beat.
07:39 - 08:42 (Knee lever action) You probably unplugged or turned off the mic, I have done this many a time myself on my videos. Good video though, just wanted to let you know.
Hey Dave I'm looking at buying one of your knivEs I was look at your pathfinder trade but I also looking at butcher knife wich one is the best all for around
Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you used your blade instead of the top flat side of your knife for the magnesium rod to start a fire? I know What part of the knife to use but, just curious why and what?
I prefer to peel my bark of like a banana almost on smaller saplings like that. Run you two circles around the circumference of the pole, cut a vertical line connecting the two circles, and you should be able to stick your thumb up under line and just peel off that entire section you just cut up
Didn't hear anything about a falling knife. A dropped or falling knife has no handle. I have seen people reach for a falling knife and pull back a cut appendage. Just a thought. Might have missed it when lost sound
dave when you were sharpening your Mora, the angle looked way too steep and sure enough when i watched full screen it clealy showed you were putting a secondary bevel, instead of shrpening the full Scandi grind. Why do you choose to do that, instead of pushing the FULL scandi grind plane down on the stone with your finger like most do (and certainly Ray Mears does on his waterstone videos. His entire scandi grind edge is sharpened not just the last 1/6th inch of it like it showed you were doing as if it were an american case knife or something. Also you ARE sharpening your blade with the diamond and portable water stone. HOning would be what you do with a rod with NO SHARPENING DIAMONDS ON IT LIKE A KITCHEN STEEL.
I'm missing the sound from about 7.38 till 8.40. Could just be me and even without sound I can follow a long just fine. But thought you might wont know.
this is a great video. seems like the chest lever grip is pretty...err..dangerous with the knife blade being right next to the chest and heart. would hate to see someone shave off a nipple haha.

Love that you do all these videos Dave..
It's really great to see someone giving their gifts freely to the world.
Dave Canterbury is top A1 in my book, the best ever
Great video. I agree with the gentleman that said that review of the basics might not be a "review" for many, many people. This is great info. Thanks.
Nice to cover the basics every now and then to avoid any confusion.

Thanks Dave!! Going to The Pathfinder Store right now!! .....So excited.
Great video Dave.. thanks a lot for all your time and hard work.
Learned a lot from this video. Thank you much, Dave.
Always great to re-talk basics. Nice knife as well.....just picked me up a new Mora too.
Still waiting on my TLC wit the Curlys!....just say'en ; )
Hi, Dave!
I just want to say - Cheers from Bulgaria and thanks for the amount of work and time you put in your great channel and videos...
Great video DC. I'm glad you're back brother. Keep on it.
man you should consider making a survival guide or something you are one of the best in survival and bushcraft
Great post Dave, I can't wait for part two.
That is the straightest stick I've ever seen.
A very informative and professional video.
I love your videos...you're a great teacher!

That's the answer I was looking for, thanks much brother.

Great video other than sound gap. Basics are good stuff!!
Glad your doing a set out of this. How many videos are you planning. Your very wise about knife usage and mentoring. Thank you DC.
Thank you dave
really like this channel ,cheers
I have tried several times with no luck man. Spoke with someone who gave me another number as well....tried that with no luck also.
It goes crazy (sound at about 7:30 to 9:25. Sound goes away and then there are two sound tracks for a while....
Great Video Sir!
Very good. Thank you very much

I lost the sound too, it wasn't just you.

Dave im a big fan but I was wondering what is the bigest thi you can catch with a 110 body trap.can you use cardbord to turn it into a foot trap. Please please anser me back
Hey Dave, I've always seen you say that never strike the fire starter from the blade but what is the reason behind it. Can you explain scientifically?
Yeah, no sound there. Now I wonder what that grip is suited for.
Dave, what are your thoughts on the Condor Bushlore that you sell at your store for under $50. I have that knife and it is a really solid knife, much more so I would think than a rat tail tang Mora. I paid $30 for Bushlore, and for the money it can't be beat.

The BSA should start calling it the 'Blood Circle' too. haha (instead of 'Safety Circle')
Just out of curiosity, what would happen if you used your blade instead of the top flat side of your knife for the magnesium rod to start a fire? I know What part of the knife to use but, just curious why and what?
What make of hat do you wear ? I needs one !
great video once again !
GOOD INFO BROTHER
Hey so you talk often on your channel about the knives that you sell on your website, I was wondering do you hand forge them? Or what?
hey dave do you ever treat your clothes with permethrin?
Where do you tape the most of your videos???
COOL.
gonna teach that triangle of death, thanks for the vid!
I was watching your video and the sound went out around 7:37
Is a Ka-Bar a solid survival knife?

this is a great video. seems like the chest lever grip is pretty...err..dangerous with the knife blade being right next to the chest and heart. would hate to see someone shave off a nipple haha.
