Thank you adorable Maggie! I easily heard the different between her gaiting and the trot. Thanks for these videos. I don't have access to roads for riding, but these are giving me a much better understanding of what's going on underneath me.
Do you have any demonstrations of getting the flat walk out of Tennessee walking horses? I’ve only seen demonstrations of getting them to “saddle gait” which is not the true gait of the breed.
Thanks so much for your videos Ivy! I have a 17 yo rocky mtn mare who is pacey. I have tried using the reins with pressure and also tried the loose rein approach but she just wont come out of the pace. Any suggestions?
Hi, thank you. I believe, too, you can gait on a loose rein. So two things, my horse seems to like the pressure to balance on, though his trainer taught me to do loose rein. Secondly, to me, it looks like so many of those horses are pacing, in other words, both legs moving forward at the same time, laterally. Is this just me?
Firstly, a lot of horses are lazy and will gait better initially with pressure on the reins, sort of to balance them, but with practice, they all learn to gait with the loose rein. Secondly, you are correct! So many, many horses are lateral/pacey and their owners think they are gaiting. :(
@@IvyS Where do you fine them? Is it just skewered on the end, or did you glue it? My current whip scares me, as it has nothing on the end and I’m always afraid the end will poke someone. I’ve been meaning to ask for a long time what was on yours! Thanks!
I always have western pleasure type very, very, loose reins & neck rein & their bitless every gaoted horse I ride I ride like that & they gait perfectly they gait slow & fast like that.
On a loose rein most will gravitate towards a pace or a trot. Both are less tiring for the horse than a smooth, even 4 beat gait. You can shoe for it like the TWH big lick people. I don't like it.
Love your videos. My first gaited horse. Knew nothing. Been riding an ottb.

Love my Isabel Wintec dressage on my Rocky Mountain - so comfy and stays in place!

What is that headstall and reins you are using on the first horse in the video?. Great video.
What kind of saddle do you generally ride in. Looks comfy for both horse and rider.
I ride in an Isabel Wintec Dressage saddle.
Oh that horse!!! ❤❤❤

How can I keep my gaited mare from tripping when I loosen the reins?
What is on the end of your whip?
It's a foam Nerf ball.
