Very Sorry to hear that Carmen has passed away. He was an awesome person because was very kind to mix and record your awesome projects, without him you would have not been named Stevie T Carmen would be very proud of you. Rest in Peace Carmen
9/10 times yea, I agree. But having done tracking and having been present for the mixing process, you have to do a lot less in the post with the axe fx tbh
John Benoit If you're gonna pay anything more than what Bias costs I would personally just get the real shit. I am debating on buying Bias for when I'm traveling so I can jam out on my guitar using my laptop and some recording stuff.
I agree, though IMO AFX sounds a lot better, maybe not 1800$ better, but thats what happens with high end gear, spending is not proportional to quality gain. BIAS just sounds dull here.
I respectfully disagree. The High end sounds less defined and the mids sound mushy, at least on my M-audio's. I am sure with enough EQ magic you could get the axe to sound like the bias, but that is kinda impractical for most guitarists, since most aren't studio engineers. That said, you can't really go wrong with either.
Could be the difference between our output devices. I still think AFX sounds a lot better, but there's one major area where bias definitely has an advantage: reamping : D I'm considering buying it just for that purpose.
Brenton Bolderoff OK I'm going there... Is Stevie T a: Djew, or a Djentile? Doesnt matter to me. Even if he's a Virgdjent, and his videos are quite diverdjent... (2nd meaning;Webster's) -just as long as he washes his clothes in deterdjent. OK, now my email is gonna blow up, please be djentle.
EZ Mix 2 are a really underrated Plugin, have awesome, amazing and realistic tones in just one click, i start to use two months ago and can't take another, and i try Guitar Rig 5, Amplitube 4, BIAS FX and POD Farm 2.0.
+JoelMetal well, yes, I didn't really say that EZMix was bad in any way. It's just the customization and thrill of creating my own tone rather than using something someone else made. I know of some musicians who use EZ and can do wonders. :)
Dacian Grada Music Your own tone in my opinion it's a little overrated, yes, you need your own style, but, i personally prefer the own style in the playing time, the same tone of your friend and diferent styles playing over diferent tones, but the same playing style, much guitarrists have really similar tones but the your identification it's in the hands, not in the gear IMHO. Sorry my not that good English, i'm spanish speaker and english it's my second language.
+JoelMetal no problem. Well yes, at the end of the story it's what everyone prefers doing. For some it's actually funny and has some satisfaction if you sit down one day and pick the amp, all the settings of the preamp, the valves, etc. as you can do with this plugin (you also can do it with others, like Podfarm, but Bias IMO lets you choose more parameters and some really like it. Then you save it as your own preset and you're set for every time you need to play.
It does it's just that BIAS can do pretty much everything Axe FX can do except it's just easier to use and you can't deny the incredible price difference am I right?
Teh Dukemonger Price difference or not, the Axe-FX is still overall the better unit if you really want to make a professional sounding guitar tone. Bias is good if you're more of a hobbyist just wanting to put out songs.
It's the fact that he's legally required to disclose paid advertisement which this obviously is. Also owning both myself Bias isn't in the same league as Axe Fx.
Randon Ladner No, they're really not. A $100 vst has literally nothing on a $2-3k amp modeller. With enough tinkering you can eventually make almost anything sound "good", but out of the box Bias sounds terrible.
Sean Dennis “no post processing.” He said there was nothing done to the channel he recorded on. Sounded decent enough to at least COMPARE to the other modeler.
I have both units sence a week ago I put the axe fx against my ipad with irig hd and I got to say this video nail it.. it is exactlly like this is not just a marketing video I hope bias keep moving forward on there technology to be more versatly especialy on the latency and interface said of it love bias and axe fx too
The Bias blends quite well but the Axe Fx definitely makes your tone stand out. It totally depends what sound you go for overall. Both are very good sims depending on your personal preference.
You guys realize the kemper and axe fx is all software correct? Those companies use hardware to tie their software to something to prevent pirating.that something being hardware, really pricey hardware.
People don't realize that Axe FX, Eleven Rack, Pod, Kemper, etc are all software, it's just that developers add hardware to avoid piracy, and hardware cost money, Bias is just software, hardware is your PC which can cost less or maybe more than any of those rack units, but im pretty sure that any XXI Century guitarist own a PC, so Bias $200, Axe Fx $2000, sorry but im going for Bias
As I'm not a "tone aficionado", for me both sound dope. Given that I'm not even close to have the money to buy an Axe FX, I think Bias would be a great tool. Thanks Steve for showing it to us.
These kinds of comparisons are of little value although the video is presented in an entertaining and well-produced manner. There is no true breakdown as to what is needed for the end user and there is only one user-case shown. Offhand, the following issues or circumstances are not addressed: • With which setup would you rather gig? • Outside of the personal recording studio, other usage-cases are not discussed. • The cost of 'full rigs' for both setups is not discussed. BIAS requires the purchase of a computer, soundcard and other peripherals. The Axe-FX is the computer and also acts as a low-latency, 4-IN/2-OUT, soundcard in a computer setup. • The Axe-FX offers a proper and low-noise Hi-Z guitar input. • The Axe-FX offers a greater degree of compatibility and interchangeability between users and setups. Not every computer will run another person's setups. To the person looking at videos, it is extremely important to thoroughly analyse your desired goals and intended uses. I wrote up a chart in Excel and compared various software solutions against the Fractal Axe-FX and Kemper Profiler. This exercise, which only took an hour, weeded out many offerings. Also, at $200, the BIAS package can often be added to anyone's setup as long as they aren't on the strictest of budgets. For many, the cost will be deciding factor anyhow. There's even a video of Mark Holcomb, of Periphery, demoing Positive Grid's software just to right of the window in which I'm typing. Differing tools for different jobs. Comparisons, especially when well presented and entertaining, are fun and somewhat useful although the end-user gets the most value of knowing more about what they truly need to accomplish before making a decision.
I have used both and they are both really good. To be honest you have to be listening for a difference to tell if there is one. The Axe can do literally anything you can dream up but for most players its overkill, most people will never even use it to a faction of its potential. It is a 10th of the cost and while it may not be better it certainly is on par and can hold its own against the Axe.
Thank you for the video. I m using FX2 it`s been now like 6 months. It`s really amazing, however when you come to high gain presets you have to EQ everything, as you hear fizz and clips.. I assume that videos on UA-cam don`t show real sounds, most of them are mastered.
Luis López y gracias a los gordos ociosos secos de internet, se puede bajar gratis jaja. Lo bajé ayer y aún no paro de alucinar. Me puse a llorar más que Solabarrieta.
Seriously Steve, BIAS sounds like balls compared to the Axe FX in this video. I just purchased BIAS FX, and so far it doesn't even come anywhere near my old trusty Axe FX Standard. The user interface is nice though, and it sounds good, but nowhere near Axe FX-good.
+David Romero sound wise. bias sounds like shit. ever compare to recabinet or mercurial u530. axe fx sounds much clearer. And many many other things that bias is not good.
Never tried Axe-Fx, but it sounds good! Tried Bias a long time ago with my old laptop and it sounded nice too as long as I remember. Then my laptop stopped working and I bought a GREAT Pc for music composition and recording. I own a Kemper npw and it's ultra easy to use and pretty good sounding. I can't compare these 3 units but... it's great to have so many options out there right now. We're living exciting times! Do not argue about what sounds better, just play and enjoy :)
While the Bias was surprisingly good, there was a difference between the sounds. The Bias program did sound a little more compressed. Also you have to take into account that if you have an Axe FX 2, you are also more than likely using that at shows which you can't do with the Bias program. Still worth $200 though.
Lots of bands these days will simply run their instruments in to their laptops through an audio interface and then into the pa, so I have no doubt that plenty of people are using BIAS live.
I love bias but I use an axefx 2 all the time. They are both only as good as the person programing it. If you don't like or don't know how to make great sounding chains bias is all for you but if you are going for a next level mix and want to put time into your sound axefx is defiantly worth the money.
Pretty sure Steve likes the Axe FX just fine. He does own one after all. Its just that the VST makes recording much simpler and is about a tenth of the price.
Awesome vid dude, keep it up. Acting was really good in this one. Try to keep it real and genuine like your older videos, I think it would help a ton. ~Sincerely, a long time fan =)
"This is impossible... how can a $200 VST sound just as good if not better than the AXE-FX?" BECAUSE... AXE-FX is extremely clever at marketing and gives youtube cover kids the impression they need extra hardware to sound like their djent heroes when the computer their recording with is more than capable of processing impulses. AXE-FX is the snake oil of the metal community. now if you're a TOURING musician... that's different.
There are so many great guitar sims out there. It doesn't even matter if they sound like the real amps they are modeled after. They just have to have the sounds you want for your music. Your music is what matters in the end, not the price you spend. I love all these comments of how flat or thin a sound is etc.... It's garbage. Release your music and let the world decide!!!
I agree. Almost everyone is basing their tone on other people's opinions rather than their own! Dial in what YOU want and forget the rest. Otherwise, music loses its magic...
Gonna have to go with the Bias for now, it's more than good enough for my current financial situation. But the AxeFX sounds noticeably better. Maybe later.. Thanks for the comparison.
I am really pissed. I cannot get my bias to sound anywhere near as good as all of these youtube sponsored ads. Makes me think it's all a lie but everyone says it's great.
It depends on how you set it up. I always had noise gate on to the lowest and when I'm not playing and I still get sound I will turn it up. I put the volume nob on my guitar to half so it doesn't get too much input. Then download other peoples set up and see if it works, sometimes the download screws up and it makes the tone really noisy. Once you've downloaded a tone, tweak it and try out different things. Aturn3d on here makes videos on how to get a certain tone of a band, like A Day to Remember and August Burns Red, which you can check out I give you an idea. I was the same when I first got Bias FX, I couldn't get any good tone until I used it a lot more and tried out different things.
Something to consider also... EZ Mix 2 + 6 expansion Bundles run for $250, the plug-in requires way less CPU to handle compared to other amp modelers, and the benefit with EZ Mix 2, is that in addition to getting amp models (for guitar and bass), you have an entire suite of other sound processing capabilities. If you don't like a certain amp model, you apply any amount of pre or post processing to get your desired tone. Positive Grid BIAS is certainly the tone-tweakers delight, and as a dedicated guitar modeler, you can't beat it, but if you don't want to get locked in analysis paralysis with BIAS, EZ Mix 2 can be a great alternative at a similar price point.
Link Freeman Check out the Kemper. It is a force to be reckoned with. You could profile a boutique amp and put the actual amp away to preserve it. There is no real difference in sound comparisons. Wish I could afford one. Plus the thing comes loaded with a bunch of excellent profiles.
@@TheEpicLinkFreeman why maintain tubes and have a huge amp to lug around and bust yer back with cabs when you can play a collection of indistinguishable modelled amps found in AXE FX?
This video is obviously BIASed.
Twiggyay Amazing!
Twiggyay very punny
Twiggyay genius
Twiggyay A very strong BIAS!
that's so korny

Awesome, glad you prefer BIAS. If you're so happy with it, just send me the Axe FX.
+AnonInTheMatrix How about I help you campaign for this because I think he should. and then I'll borrow it off you every time I need to record?
+AGPMandavel
sounds fair to me
and the rest of the time i can keep it and rent it out to bands, sound fair right?
How about you guys get the Axe FX and I get the Axe FX II ?
AnonInTheMatrix maaa mannnn 🤣

Thanks to BIAS and The Pirate Bay I can have an amazing tune on my $150 guitar.
lmao

I'm broke and dumb, so I'll go with Bias. Axe Fx is way too expensive, and technical for me.
Yup, me too.
What else do you have to buy with the software to make it work?
+Sean O'Connor An interface.
+Ryan where would I buy one? And how much would it cost?
Sean O'Connor I have a scarlett 2i2 interface. You can get it at Guitar Center in the pro audio area.
There's no denying the bang for your buck award goes to Bias, but the Axe FX sounds better every single time to me.
John Benoit but i won't complain for 1/10 the cost, perfect for the common mortals
very true, definitely gonna still consider bias
John Benoit dude, i agree with you, but lets be completely honest with ourselves here: in a mix context no one would ever know which one is which...

The axe fx sounds a bit better in this video to me, fuller and less harsh.

ElWrobel Fair. I think the difference would be so slight in a mix it's not worth shelling out a tonne of money for Axe FX
I'd have to agree with ElWrobel here. The AxeFx sounds better. Still a diminishing return type of situation though. Bias is a great tool.

"A bit more bite" for $1,800 more.....hmmmm
Whether Steve was paid to make this video or not doesn't change the fact that Bias actually sounds great.
And if he likes it anyway, I don't see the harm in letting him make some money promoting a product he would have recommended no matter what.
It's the fact that he's legally required to disclose paid advertisement which this obviously is. Also owning both myself Bias isn't in the same league as Axe Fx.

The Axe Fx still sounds a bit more lively to me, but man, I can actually afford BIAS!
Dude, Steve, I love you man. You keep it so fresh. Man, you always change my perception.
The Bias blends quite well but the Axe Fx definitely makes your tone stand out. It totally depends what sound you go for overall. Both are very good sims depending on your personal preference.

All I can think about during the demos is how much better the Axe FX sounds....
All I can think about is how much cheaper the BIAS is. Mind you I don't play guitar.
You only think that, probably because you must either have one or are partially deaf ..... :0)
I have both, I love both. They have their ups and downs just like with everything and they both serve the same purpose.
So many guitar players forget about tone. Something very important that can make or break a band.
I miss Carmen.
He was such a good guy.
yeah 😔
I still remember the 15 year old noob me thinking Bias is actually better than axe II. Fork you Stevie 🤣🤣
Same dude
That Axe tone is the real gem here
did I just watch an advertisement???
Over my laptop speakers there is a little more body to the Axe FX tones, however for the price difference- a truly incredible competitor!
Just downloaded Bias FX. Sounds fantastic compared to a lot of other products I’ve tried.
This comparative was very clear and funny. Thanks.
Now you can buy a dozen of Axe FXs for the money you've got for this. Well done! :D
These kinds of comparisons are of little value although the video is presented in an entertaining and well-produced manner.
There is no true breakdown as to what is needed for the end user and there is only one user-case shown.
Offhand, the following issues or circumstances are not addressed:
• With which setup would you rather gig?

I wrote up a chart in Excel and compared various software solutions against the Fractal Axe-FX and Kemper Profiler. This exercise, which only took an hour, weeded out many offerings.
Also, at $200, the BIAS package can often be added to anyone's setup as long as they aren't on the strictest of budgets. For many, the cost will be deciding factor anyhow.

hey bro nice pic. I love the band tool.
Jake Myers I'm gigging and have both the axe and bias. the axe fx 2 through a cab is so much easier than a normal rig and just as dependable.
True, but the axe-fx with all its virtually limitless possibilities can also inspire musicians to write something different
Dude that purple Kiesel is so gorgeous!!
Thank you for the video. I m using FX2 it`s been now like 6 months. It`s really amazing, however when you come to high gain presets you have to EQ everything, as you hear fizz and clips.. I assume that videos on UA-cam don`t show real sounds, most of them are mastered.

love that fully body tone of the Bias,Gonna get my self a copy!!!!!!!!

Thanks Steve I've been crossed on these two for a bit now
I don't know why but I liked the AXE FX more than BIAS.
It's all about preference. I liked Bias more, but Axe sounded pretty good too.
+David Romero sound wise. bias sounds like shit. ever compare to recabinet or mercurial u530. axe fx sounds much clearer. And many many other things that bias is not good.

I don't own either but the AXE FX sounds a lot better.

I agree :)

I love the last bit, "...but does it djent? 😏😏😏"
"...yeah"
Axe FX is better
IF IT COSTZ MOAR IT MUST BE BETTERZ
Hank Hill well I'd not say it's 10 times better.. but I would still include the iPad in the costs.. so yeah Bias is also really expensive
***** BIAS desktop. No iPad required.
Fish So include the PC in the price, At least 200 more (likely a lot more than an extra 200 in most cases).
Torwulf games and with the Axe Fx you would also have to include the amp costs or what?
0:45 - If Tom Hanks directed this as a 10 episode mini-series, it would have won an Emmy.
this review is so biased

The bias tones reminded me of the line6 spider insane tone that every teen with long hair at guitar center uses
r.i.p. carmen :(
Liked the video very much. Both axe and bias tones were nearly equally good. And yeah, bias does djent.
Bias is cool, but ax fx sounds SOOOOO many times better.
I´m using Bias Desktop for everything. I love it
"This is impossible... how can a $200 VST sound just as good if not better than the AXE-FX?"
BECAUSE...
Yeah sure it is. Just bought an axe fx and not a single vst amp sim actually come close. Snake oil it ain't
Best advertisement I've ever watched, totally convinced if buy an axe FX 2
As a performing musician.. sorry, sir. I'll stick with hardware.
I'll stick with a Mesa Triple Rectifier for gigs, actually.
No *bias* in this *ad* for *BIAS*.
They both sound great, I like them both
Stevey sounds biased...
your funny man!!! excellent and thank you for a great video !!!!!
Bias sounds richer in my opinion...
What's it doing?
It depends of the sound card you're using.
I did actually in 2 min with the demo version
I second that. I can't make any decent high gain sounds from it.
Jon from Sonic Drive Studio can't too.
Bias is shit. Really.
Still Like my Pod Farm 2. :3
I feel better about this video after seeing the Timmy’s cup. 🇨🇦 you have my attention
If the AXE FX was such a pain in the butt, why didn't you just use a real amp?
axe fx sounds better but bias is my opinion a better option because it still sounds very good, is 1800 cheaper and bias is just do much easier to use
R.I.P.
As soon as this video uploaded "takes check from positive grid and cashes it"
and buys kemper
but what about that 5150 there in that first room, it kicks both their asses
+Link Freeman Profile it on a Kemper and put the head away.
dkyelak why would you use a fake version of an amp when you can use the real thing?
Link Freeman Check out the Kemper. It is a force to be reckoned with. You could profile a boutique amp and put the actual amp away to preserve it. There is no real difference in sound comparisons. Wish I could afford one. Plus the thing comes loaded with a bunch of excellent profiles.
@@TheEpicLinkFreeman why maintain tubes and have a huge amp to lug around and bust yer back with cabs when you can play a collection of indistinguishable modelled amps found in AXE FX?
THE FUCKING ENDING. I'm sold, getting ASAP.
Rip carmen :(
YAY! Metalcore Song behind the scenes!
