I live in Wheeling, and they closed because they rented and the landlord wanted to drastically raise the rent. They did close pretty suddenly. It’s sad, they were pretty busy and they had car shows in the summer. They had a lot of flooding too which is why the parking lot is a mess.
Kay, I worked there until the end, your close but was Hardee's/ CarlJr lease that was the issue. I worked there for 12 years, and miss it especially my ex fellow employees..
I’m from Wheeling, they wanted to increase their lease so they just closed instead, sad really, growing up the parking lot was a hang out spot. There’s supposed to be another business moving in there soon.
Often had breakfast here after church on Sunday. They had a great regular crowd. It was one of those "where everyone knows your name" place. Miss this restaurant.

Wallie, I worked there until the end, Hardee's wanted them to commit to a 5 year lease. The owners of this one own Millville too, that lease isn't up yet. They are owned by two older gentleman, who just couldn't commit to 5 more years..
I think that circle thing at the drive through is to open the window. The worker would lean against and it would open. A few of the older style restaurants in my area have them.
As a wheeling resident.. It closed due to the lease being to high. The owner was very upset but said the landlord was just going to charge way to much. :(
As a former Wheeling resident, I don't understand why. There is no reason for property in that area to be that high. Who does this idiot landlord think is going to move in there and pay that kind of rent? The valley has nothing to offer, it is not some piece of prime real estate, there are not alot of businesses there. This makes no sense at all. I left in 2006 because there are no opportunities, very few jobs and no good paying jobs. I really would like to know why Wheeling has it's head so far up it's ass
@@mvol5973 Raising rents and leases is happening across the whole city and area. Wheeling landlords want Pittsburgh money and it turn would rather leave a location vacant than rent at lower prices.

I miss Hardee’s!!! I work in wheeling, and every once in a while me and someone I work with would make a “quest” to Hardee’s for lunch. 5-10 minute drive on a 30 minute lunch break lol
Photo by Derek Redd The Hardee's on National Road has closed its doors after franchise owners decided against signing another long-term lease for the building. A hamburger restaurant had stood at that site since 1962
Sick video man! I just started filming abandoned locations myself! I love watching other peoples content so I can see how to better my stuff! Keep up the good work!
They close because cause they’re turning that into a Dunkin’ Donuts right there from what I heard because we have one in Moundsville so they’re putting one down there too where the old Hardee’s was I think they already started on the Dunkin’ Donuts down there and tore that building down you had to go through and look again. I would love to see what it looks like now. Thank you.
Funny because just yesterday, I past by the Hardee's and there was no line at all, but it was open. I remember eating there 2020, who knows when they'll open up the dining room back up.
My dad worked here and they closed it because the owner lived to far away and no one would take the building because of the roof and other stuff they took the tables trash cans ect. to the other Hardee’s the owner had the owner gave a lot of stuff to the employees like we have some stuff from there the soda thing it still there because the people who owned it didn’t come pick it up but the staff was great the food was great I miss it
If you ever are in HERSHEY, you probably will pass the TRUIST bank branch in the heart of town, near Hersheypark. This bank is in the parking lot of an apartment building tower. Before a bank was there, a Hardee's was at that spot! I was sad to see the Hardee's close back in 2003 or 2004. Hardee's had locations in the Philly metro area in the 70's, but sadly those all closed in 1979. Then Hardee's returned to the Philly area in the early 90's when they bought ROY ROGERS, but sadly Hardee's left the Philly area (for the second time!) by the end of the 90's.
I really like Hardee’s and I wish there were more in western Pennsylvania. There is one in Hancock, MD that I stop at whenever I go to Virginia. But it’s been over 2 years since I’ve been to VA, so I don’t know if it’s still even open!
Ok when I saw wheeling west Virginia I instantly thought of the Billy Joel song balled of billy the kid. From town know as wheeling west Virginia road a boy with a 6 gun in his hand...😂 Great video guys keep it up.👍
Yeah, it sucks, loved the curly fries. That one was a pretty short walk from my place and right next to where I do my banking, was my favorite fast-food-fix place.
I worked at a Hardee's where I live and it closed down. The reason why it closed down, when I worked there people days and hours were cut down and no one wouldn't work there because of that. Then they shut Hardee's down in 2000 or 2001.
It's funny there's no hardees in the Philly area or the counties around Philly but if you go about an hour west from where I live they have them out around the York pa and Harrisburg area and if you go about an hour south from where I live they have a bunch of hardees in the state of Delaware and in Maryland
Last time I was at my local Hardee's it might as well close. Took me thirty minutes to get food. The food was good but the closed dining room and only three people working....bet that is what happened here. Who wants to wait thirty minutes in the drive thru? So now I just go to Sonic. Our Hardee's is still holding on but it's hurting on time. They got customers but they lost me on that wait time. The pandemic hurt a lot of places. People not wanting to go back to work or not wanting to work fast food hurt a lot of places. However, on the flip side Wallie may not gt food but he had abandoned place to film and eplore for us so.... win...win.... I guess
I ate there once or twice a year and the big burgers were the best fast burger in the valley. Mushroom and Swiss was my favorite. I even learned how to replicate the sauce myself. The curly fries were great also when they are hot and freshly made. Otherwise not worth buying as we all know cold fries suck. 30 years ago that stretch of road was banging with clubs and places to eat. The drunk driving laws put most of them out of business. People just don't want to go out anymore. Fear of being arrested. I'm not condoning drinking and driving. Just stating facts.
I'm with you Wallie, I am absolutely DONE with drive-thrus. I'm sick and tired of eating my food hunched over the steering wheel like an escaped convict on the run. I want to go pee, wash my hands, and sit at a table and eat my sandwich like a human being, ESPECIALLY when I'm on a road trip. If cannot accommodate that, their competition next door or across the street or the next shopping center over WILL!
I really wanted to eat at Hardee’s I remember I went to Kentucky going to the Ark Encounter and we were grabbing something to eat we were thinking about Hardee’s but we went to McDonalds instead
Thanks for Sharing Video Wallie 👍
Hi, Wallie and Kayla!

It’s so nice to see this because now it is a Dunkin completely remodeled and a whole new building!
Glad to get here early! Great vid as always man!

That round thing is how you open the drive thru window hands free. You walk into it and push with your body
Good video, I miss the Hardees Chicken Sandwhich of the 1980's. 90's, to good and their fried chicken, yummy
WallieB26, really enjoyed your awesome abandoned Hardee's! I can't stand that they put a Carl's Jr in the Hardee's in Durant. I miss Hardee's!
Its the same where I'm at they closed 4 of them
Carls Jr bought Hardees. Hardees is no more. It's just the name Carls Jr uses in the east.
@@misterhat5823 right
It’s the same restaurant with a different name and maybe a few menu differences other than the name of the food.
I always enjoyed the Hardee's Monster Burger! To this day, I will STILL replicate that delicious burger EVERY chance I get!

I too enjoy dining in and its frustrating when its drive thru only. I'm also pretty particular how I like my soda.

I love the old school Grey shingle overhangs that the older Hardee's had. If I ever open a restaurant, I would build it to have the same style.
I think that circle thing at the drive through is to open the window. The worker would lean against and it would open. A few of the older style restaurants in my area have them.
Nice classic Hardee’s. You don’t see too many Hardee’s anymore.
Back in the 90’s this Hardee’s was LIT on a Friday / Saturday night, used to swing by after skating at the White Palace.
I remember they had a sandwich called the 'Frisco burger', it was really good. It's sad to see it close, it was at this location for years.

I have an abandoned Hardee’s near me too, although I live far from the Northeast!
Wallie the orange pusher in the drive through door is for the employee to push open the door if their hands are full

That small door in the back, probably leads directly into the fridge/freezer. I have seen restaurants doo this to make unloading the truck easier.
Yeah it does, right to the freezer
That orange thing is actually what opens the window. You push against it with ur hip and open the window as you have food in ur hands.
6:11 I believe that's how they opened the window. Lean against the round thing and the window opens.
Hey. There are many Kings closed down including one in Delmont, PA. May be worth taking a look at.
I used to eat at Hardee's every morning got their breakfast bowls it's all over the United States that Hardee's shutting down
I've been going to Hardee's since the 70's, so it's kind of sad to see when they abandon them.

Looks to be a former Burger Chef to me. Espicially the back end looking to the roof.
