The problem is that people still thinks that Toyota is the greatest car manufacturer. New Toyota management is more interested in earnings than the consumer.
Toyota cooperate Is digging a pretty big hole to climb out of. The new vehicles are suffering from typical toyota first few year issues. But the combo together is really hitting them hard. Its s snowball effect of greed, and new product issues combined that they need to overcome alll at the same time or its gonna be trouble for toyota. I sure hope they can get it together quick, fast and in a hurry.
@@SamkoWorkShop Its made me decide not to buy a Toyota again.

@joshrains286 Toyota Customers are the opposite of Tesla Customer, a company that is in total decline. What a lack of vision. RIP Toyota.
Nobody wants to buy a 4 cyl 70k SUV, Toyota.

The other reason they’re not moving is cause no one wants a stupid hybrid or stupid four cylinder turbo
I am not a fan of either of those. And will fight with everything I have to never own a hybrid. But the baby turbos are basically gov mandated now.
Exactly
@@SamkoWorkShop I think your fleet has to be so fuel efficient. Not so much every vehicle. That's how Ford can still offer the V8 , but they only do in full sized trucks.
@371kenny very true. It's an "overall numbers game" for the epa.
All about those damn carbon taxes from the Fed.
Toyota fan boi here. I'd pick the 2024 Frontier over the 2024 Tacoma. Cheaper and probably more reliable because of NA V6.
Agree 100% on both counts.
The 5.7 crate engine is $7500, the TT v6 is $32k.
Wow. The 5.7 was gem, the TT V6 will go down as a turd.
Wow that’s a fuckin big chunk a money. I hate to see anyone or any company face tough times, but as a bleed ford blue guy it gives me a bit of satisfaction seeing all the problems others are having. No manufacturer is perfect, and first year refresh vehicles always have thier hiccups. I’ve said for years that Ford gets a lot of shit talk from people who have had no personal experience with one and it’s honestly borderline pathetic. My personal experience over the years has proven to me that they are a much better company than people will try and convince you of, just as being a Subaru tech a few years back I can tell you from experience that company is givin entirely too much praise because the amount of major engine/cvt/manual trans/cam phaser issues I’ve repaired on them tell me different. Don’t believe anything somebody tries to convince you of, unless they come with personal experience, and even then if they are taking thier vehicle to a shitty shop that’s throwing parts at it left and right you can’t blame the car at that point
I saw a video where they just did a short block on the new turbo 6 and it was almost $30k with labor. That is insane!!
They could take off 25,000 and they'd still be overpriced.
Yup, 30% overpriced
Toyota's rep has taken a hard hit with all the problems they are having recently.
It sure has. And nobody wants to see that. Toyota is a good company. They play alot of stupid games but so do many other manufacturers. We want toyota to do well. And I believe the biggest issues for them vehicle wise is all the new versions at once. Toyota has always struggled with first few years of any vehicle and problems. Or teething issues as we call it. But with a new tundra, new sequoia, new tacoma, new 4 runner, new land cruiser all within a few years, and all the teething issues for each. It's gonna be a rough road for toyota for a bit. And thoer pricing and practices are not helping their situation. Hopefully they get sorted quick and get back to being a great company with great vehicles.
Also new prius, new camry, new Grand highlander, newish corolla cross and Venza, (new Lexus GX550, new Lexus TX...,) Yikes.
All I want are new OEM genuine parts for gen1 tacoma to keep it running tiptop over 400k miles coming soon
$500 rebate on trucks over priced by $8000 isn't going to make even the slightest dent.
Very true. But it's a start
Bad start....
Raise the price $20k and offer a $1500 "loyalty incentive on certain models" to buy a truck that's unreliable at best? Dream on Toyota!
Yep it's a weak discount. But it's a start atleast and on a vehicle that's not even available yet. Hopefully the discounts get better
@@SamkoWorkShop or put the price back where it should be. You're rolling the dice on any vehicle with that engine in it.
I’ve seen videos claiming the cost to replace a blown turbo v6 engine is 30k. That alone would make me walk away.
Yep crazy expensive. and seems under warrany toyota is just replacing the block not doing a crate engine. This is gonna be a nightmare. Not many techs today that can put all that together in a busy shop and not have problems later. Especially with toyota techs used to working on simple stuff and all this new complicated systems.
At least it is for the tundra. You have to pull the cab off to do it.
@371kenny yep but dealerships with the right lifts can pull a cab off in no time. The super duty is the same way. Many techs love it as it opens up the truck so much better to work on. But for the 30k cost and labor etc I wish toyota would just give new crate motors to these poor customers.
@@SamkoWorkShop if this was a ev id call it a throw away vehicle. Toyota reputation is on durability and cost to fix. I don’t see that in the new tundra. You need an extended warranty just like most brands.
@@nordlandak6853 very true
The new turbo engines has several iasues like turbo gate, oil pump, water pump, went from michanical to electrical function and any of those fail say goodbye to your engine.
Yep more tech means more failures
Thanks for the shout out! I watch your stuff as well :). Small world. I’m in agreement with you. I really hope that ladder frame is not the problem. I’ve wanted to buy a new Tundra for some time but just can’t take the risk.
I feel the same exact way. I just can’t risk that much money on a truck that may not be dependable. Thanks to God that my 20yr old 04 Silverado is still running strong at 160,000 miles. I’ve only had to change the alternator last year and a water pump/thermostat a few years ago. I hope Toyota corrects things and that these prices continue to drop. Maybe a GMC Sierra but that’s risky to me too. Wish Nissan was still planning on making the Titan .
You make great videos! I watch everything thru my traditional bowhunting youtube channel so if you see a comment from there it's me😂
Big trucks were never meant to have tiny turbo engines
Which big truck has a tiny engine?
Truck normal uses is so much different that a car. Cars do great with turbos as they are rarely in the boost. Trucks doing trucks stuff are in the boost so much. I miss the days of v8 and v6 na's already.
@robertopics chevy silverado has a 4 cylinder I believe 2.7 and f150 has a 2.7l v6. They're both apparently not bad but they are smaller motors. 😅
@@WSmith-ne5ksthey're not good either, might last longer than Toyota. But they're not 300k engines.
@@WSmith-ne5ks both of those were a complete wreck for the first 3 years of each.
This engine family could be a big problem for Toyota. It's been out for at least 3 years, so I bet they know it's a design/manufacturing flaw and they're going to hide the solution until most engines are out of warranty. Toyota has been known to hide flaws like their V6 head gasket issues of the 1990's. Even though the forums had documented many failures, Toyota denied, denied & denied there was an issue until they were forced to provide an extended warranty. They should've been forced to replace all 3.4L v6 head gaskets proactively, just like they should be forced to replace all the TTV6 long blocks. They'll deny there's a problem as long as they can.
Sad business practice if you want to keep customers coming back and not have people complaining about your company on the internet. We as consumers are OK with problems happening. It's how those problems are handleded that matter.
It's crazy that Fords fix for the fuel filter issue is to re-route the leaking gas instead of fixing the filter. Are they still producing cars with the issue because they don't have a part that fixes the problem? There should be a "stop production" order from the NHTSA until the issue is fixed.
Agree 100%
The ladder main bearing structure has been out and used by all of the manufacturers for years including Toyota , It maybe new to this particular engine but not a new concept. The 6 bolt cross bolt main cap design dates back decades. There may be a manufacturing defect or design flaw going on. Someone mentioned supply chain shortages as a possible cause also.
Good to know. Thank you for the information. Wish toyota would tell us what it is that's causing it.
TundraDude34 did a survey among Gen3 Tundra owners about issues with their purchase. Nearly 24% reported issues and 76% reported no issue with their Tundra. Texas Toyota should address the issue.
I will have to go find that video. Appreciate the heads up on it. I like his channel. And thanks for sharing the highlight numbers here.
Tundra dude and Trd Jon might be the two biggest fan boys on the internet…. They keep peddling these new Toyota models like they r gold… tundra dude can’t even fit in the back seat of his double cab…
Class action lawsuit in coming over the Tundra. I really, REALLY wanted to upgrade to a 3rd Gen Tundra from my 2020 Tacoma.
Yes, Tinker’s vids are on point just like this one!🔥
Tinker has mad skills in deep dives and engineering. Love his channel! And thank you.
Toyota did not do it's due diligence when it came to real world testing of this 3.4L V6 platform it appears. The theory of this engine design and the proofing of this design are not panning out very well. The consumer should not have to be the beta tester for Toyota or any other auto manufacture for that matter to work out problems unless being compensated to do so.
I just hope toyota get it all sorted and makes it right with customers in a better way then they are currently doing.
So Wayne, in your opinion, what should Toyota Texas do to remedy the issue with their customers and their product?
@@totwallybaba Vet their product better with more long term beta testing in the real world before releasing a product to the consumer. This would mitigate so many quality issues that seems to plague the new generation Tundra. People expect more from Toyota based of their past experience with the company with previous purchases. Clearly something is a miss at Toyota since many of the big issues with the Tundra still exist in the current offering. Bad publicity goes a long ways. I was currently interested in a new 2024 Tundra I-force-Max and shied away from it and ordered a truck from a different manufacture. I have owned 4 Toyota products over the last 20 years so I know what should be expected from Toyota. As far as dealing with customers that have an engine failure under warranty, just offer them a new truck or their money back. Don't make them jump through the hoops of an engine replacement or a Lemon law buy back. If Toyota is confident in this 3.4L V6 engine design they should have no problem offering this kind of gesture. At this point in time Toyota will probably have to go above and beyond the industry norms to restore customer confidence in the Toyota brand IMHO.
Tesla owners are alpha testers!!!
@@totwallybaba I submitted a response to your questions but I see it was taken down. I guess free speech and opinion is not allowed here!
What in the world is happening to Toyota can’t believe it I get that first second year are a problem, but this is ridiculous
This could end up being a huge problem for toyota. I hope they get it dialed in quick.
Might be the same thing that happened to Mercedes in the 90's and went downhill from there. Simple = reliable
When you take simplicity out of the equation, you get a disaster.

Fixing Super Duty is very easy. I’ve already fixed my ‘24 f550. The secondary fuel filter is removed and relocated to below the truck with a traditional spin on fuel filter.
Glad to hear they fixed it. But shame they are not fixing the bad ones that were made wrong
@@SamkoWorkShop We're going full-time travel, so i need to make the truck as bullet-proof as possible. This is one of the weak links. Fortunately, HSM makes an upper fuel filter relocation kit. So I put that on.
@jimandvalstravelchannel outstanding. Glad to hear after market stepped up when ford is not.
WOW amazing TY so much ,,Keep up the great work

There's practically ZERO chance that the Ladder Frame is at fault here unless it is somehow contributing to oil starvation along the bearing surface. My guess is there's either a bearing tolerance issue, or a design flaw somewhere in the oil supply system. It would be very telling if they are seeing failures at the same bearing location. Also, using 0w20 can't be helping things and I sure wouldn't use that lighter weight oil in a turbocharged engine.
Good to know. Thank you
Toyota is switching some of there vehicles to 0-16 oil
They should just start replacing those with 5.7.
Sure would be nice if they did. Or atleast gave it as an option. But epa won't let them.
@@SamkoWorkShop i do not see them resolving those issues properly. It seems like bad design. Shure they'll fined bandaid...
There was a recall on these fuel filter on the ford power stroke I remember doing them 22S01 Recall I do belive

I have been ready to buy a new Ford for some time. I have owned a 2007 Ford Expedition since it was new. I think I'm just going to keep it. Rather, swap a low-mileage Gen III Coyote 5.0 and upgrade the suspension and brakes. Keep it for another decade.
Nothing wrong with that. Sound like a great plan.
Gee $1500 whole dollars? Wow. How generous. Truck will be constantly in the shop.
1500 is pretty sad. But a step in the right direction
People forget that the 2nd gen tundra with the 5.7 also had a number of issues the first couple years, and everyone was saying similar things as they are now.
Also the 3.5 v6 in other Toyotas had vvti problems early on
Yep all new motors and new vehicle models have issues. That why everyone says to wait a few years and let the kinks get worked out.
except those issues don't equate to "engine blowing up." I have a LC200, a Tundra, and Sequoia. All are 5.7L and combined mileage is near 600k miles.

@@Baebon6259 what are you talking about ?
the early tundras had issues in 2007 2008 2009 when the second GEN came out. That’s what I’m talking about 😆
It didn’t become the bulletproof reliable truck we all know and love until after 2014 before that it has some issues .
Going out on a limb here. Went to go service my dad's 2024 tundra the other day. Just under 5000 miles and on the road for 7 months. Asked them about the first oil change and they said not due for 10,000 miles/1 year. Mind you this seems to be an industry standard now with how far full synthetic oil has come. But doesnt that seem really stretched out for an OCI? especially the first change where initial break in occurs, i would think there would be quite a few metal debri in the oil by 10k miles. Wonder if this could have anything to do with the spun bearings
Was thinking about the same thing. I did changed mine at 1500 and I will do it again at 5k and then every 4-5k miles.
Definitely change the oil every 5k miles on a turbo. Just did a video about this 2 weeks ago worth watching. The thumbnail has a 4 runner and says 10k my a....
Please don't follow their advice, follow your gut and change it at 5000 miles, and use a good quality synthetic oil.
Remember when engines out lasted the body……… not anymore thanks to extending those oil changes..
@@robm3357 great point
That ladder bearing cap is how Honda does the k series engine. When properly executed they are stupid durable. Much better than the standard individual cap system.
And I bet that's why toyota did it too. Hopefully the problem is simpler to fix and not that part
The LC pricing for me is not an issue, what I expect is major discounts on the Tacos which are the volume sellers but its a good start. Also I think now we see a reason that they are moving away from the TT V6 from the Tundra as it is not reliable. The Hybrid 2.4 is probably more reliable as it has been tested in other Lexus products.
Not sure what toyota will do. But hope they do it right and get themselves sorted.
There is just no excuse for a major manufacturer to have a motor spinning bearings on an established model. This an engineering and PR disaster for Toyota! I literally decided to buy a new truck this week, and had a 2011 Tundra that I sold after 3 years because I was stupid. It was a great truck. So I naturally wanted to go back to Tundra. Boy was I shocked when I discovered this issue. Probably look at 2gen Tundras now!
Hopefully toyota gets it sorted quick. The new tundra is a great truck. Just need toyota to step up and be better for it's customers
Does anyone know if the new Tacoma engine is built the same way?
This is pretty common ladder design..it's nothing new at all. Nearly all engines use this.
The journey of company and customer is one that is sweet with victory as will as shared setbacks and costly solutions.
I always buy older Toyotas. That way you get to see if a certain model really does prove to be extra reliable; even in the context of Toyotas reputation for reliability. I do my research on the ones I like, I then look say 10 years back, for a good example with low miles. I never buy the first generation anything. I have a 2003 Hilux, a 2010 FJ cruiser, and now with the mess forming around these new turbo engines, I am shopping for a Lexus in the 2015-2022 range. Not interested in being the tester of a new model. That is Toyota's job.
Smart thinking and a great way to get quality vehicles
Because there is not an acceptable and logical explanation with this particular Toyota engine problem, it implies a serious manufacturing or design flaw. This could end up being very expensive for Toyota.
Agree 100%
That rebate is a joke, the owners of those vehicles are not in the market for a Land Crusier.
sure could be a better rebate
I don’t know of a solid good new truck or suv vehicle right now. Every make has problems. My biggest problem is the prices from every manufacturer and the interest rates. Back in 2010 I bought a fully loaded crew cab f150 xlt 2wd for 27k due to rebates. You can’t buy a maverick for that now.
Agree 100%
I think what irritates me the most about this whole Toyota 3.4 twin turbo thing is how much Toyota hyped it up claiming that it's going to run cool because they are using the best parts and how this great new engine is going to last so long, etc. Remember this is not just some 3.4 twin turbo engines with this potential weak point. This is ALL 3.4 twin turbo engines! Any motorhead knows when you add forced induction you better make that bottom end bulletproof or you're likely to have catastrophic failures. And the last video I watched about this was a 3.4 failing at 7k miles and Toyota said they "might" cover it under warranty!? So they jacked the price up so high because they are so proud but "might" not stand behind their lovechild product? BS!! Just from hearing this makes me turn away from these spineless cowards who can't back up their new and improved engine that can blow up at random. I feel sorry for the people who trusted the brand and got screwed once by overpaying and again with Toyota's "might" warranty.
Agree 100%. We as consumers are used to and can tolerate issues with our new vehicles if the manufacturer steps up and takes care of it. Toyotas way of taking care of it is unacceptable.
I think it'll take years until the smaller displacement turboed motors made to replace tried and true V8s are actually a good purchase. Entire industry moved away from what most want in a pick up truck. Chevy, Ford and Ram would be smart to atleast keep the V8 as an option. The new Tundra is beautiful looking in my opinion. Imagine how fast they'd sell if they still had the 5.7 in them. Instead they're mostly sitting on dealers lots.
Agree. Unfortunately the small turbos are mandatory by gov now with new phases of epa regs
What do you think about Stellantis Getting rid of Chrysler Jeep Ram.employees And engineers.
I'm not publicly touching that debate. Any word I say will piss off someone. But I will say both the law and stelantis is a business and both have to run like a business. And can't blame either of them for trying to run a business
Take a look at these Jeep lots. They stock only 4xe in some areas and people who want a Jeep and don't want to wait for a cheaper model that is not a hybrid are just paying the premium and buying them. If they didn't stick so many they probably wouldn't sell as many.
Can't even find a 4xe in my area. They are sold before they arrive
Its not too late to get a great deal on a Titan with a 5.6 liter V8. 5 year, 100k mile warranty! This is the last year, sadly.
Very true. I wish I could find a titan to do a review on. 2 dealers within a hour of me and never have any on the lot. I bet it's sells quick with the deals and the awesome reliability
I already bought mine awhile back I’m in to deep and these videos are scaring me
Seems like the ones going down are going down early with low miles. So you should be fine. And if something happens worry about it then. But there are thousands of these motors on the road and running trouble free right now.
how many tundras have had this issue as compared to how many sold?
Not sure. And I'm betting that percent is low. However the big problem is how toyota is handling it. Just replacing the block. On a truck this advanced with this much crap on it. It's proving too hard for techs to put back together right and then just break down again. 1 tundra owner is in now for his 3rd motor in 48k miles.
@@SamkoWorkShop yeah its a real night mare trying to fix. but all I can find so far is less than 1% has had this issue.
@korbekleeninc.974 yep and that 1% is not a bad number. But remeber most of these trucks are still very low miles as it's only a a couple years old

Many times Toyota through the years has had engine issues (3 .0 l V6 earley 90’s). I don’t wish anyone having issues but if it did happen I would rather have Toyota backing me up than any other manufacturers.
Toyota is not backing anyone up though. Thats the problem. Sure wish they were. I have other videos on this. Toyora is leaving customers with 7k miles on brand new tundras with blown motors for months and then only replacing the block witch techs can not seem to do very well.
I believe the LX is made in the renowned Tahara plant in Japan. If they are have issues coming from their best place, you know it's bad.
I hope toyota gets it dialed in quick
I honestly do not understand the concerns people are having with the new 2.4L turbo engine. The only thing I dislike is the diesel like sound this engine has. Other than that, the power is amazing, the fuel economy is outstanding, and on top, you can actually work on it without being robbed at the dealership. Plus, the engine is light, which will make the steering and the truck's behavior outstanding.
On the flip side, I hate
the 3.4 liter engine that replaced the 5 7.
The 3.5 V6 on the previous Tacoma was not great at all.
The 2.4 will probably be a great motor. But the 3.5 v6 was amazing. Very few v6 motors will ever be able to last and be as trouble free as the 3.5 v6 was
@@SamkoWorkShop I like the 3.5 V6 that is in every Toyota except the one that is in the Tacoma, which they set up with an Atkinson cycle that ruin the agility of that engine. My buddy had a Sienna minivan with the 3.5 V6. The engine did not have any issues and the van was at 420,000 miles when he was involved in an accident and that was the end.
Less than 100 verifiable cases on the tundra engine that includes the Lexus model too
Engines been out since 2018 in the Lexus car there’s over 300,000 of these engines in service right now and with less than 100 hundred verifiable cases that’s like 0.004%
It's not the failure of the motor. It's the failure of toyota to fix it right.
Toyotas new management lost sight of the only reason people buy a Toyota. It’s because we know (knew) it would last a long time. It’s the ONLY reason I bought my 2020 Tacoma v6.
Yep toyota has changed and not for the better.

I don’t think people are on board with these new engines. Preowned Tundras, 4 Runners, and Tacomas 8 and 10 years old in my area are going for a fortune. I’ve been seeing 2016 Tacomas with over 100k miles on them for as much as $28,000.

Overseas the Land Cruiser 300 series is offered with the 4.0 v6 for people that do not want the turbo engines. Not very quick, but should last 20 years longer than the unproven turbo hybrid.
Agree 100%
This is all nuts. I am NOT buying any Toyota today. The prices are absurd, the V6 TT is blowing up, Tundra transmissions are blowing, the 2.4L T sucks, the interest rates are through the roof, and some nit wit is now the CEO. I’ll take a BMW instead if a RAV4 costs $50k.
Agree! Living in the city daily driving a Tacoma. I would have bought a new one but I'd go with a BMW for that price. In fact I may thank Toyota for making the decision justifiable because I've always wanted to factory-order one. If BMW made pickups- OMG.
Well said and can totally understand
😂
Ah yes. 70 to 80 thousand dollar Land Cruiser with a 1500 dollars discount? How does that help the bottom line?
Yep weak discount. But it's a start. Hopefully it gets better😂
Hahah love seeing Toyota turbos eat shit. Cant wait to see the tacoma follow suit
You couldn’t pay me drive a plug in hybrid. I’ll drive a non plug in gas engine as long as I can.
Me too. Feel the same way
You couldn't pay me to drive a jeep lol. Garbage 🗑
@markmunoz3951 I think jeep is one of the most reliable vehicles made today in 2024. And I say that as some one that has spent a lifetime buying selling and owning over 30 new vehicles and spending the last 2 years researching truck stuff daily for this channel. So it may be my opinion, but I consider it a highly educated one. I'd buy jeep all day every day without question.
Toyota are garbage lol fanboi
Oof. Rough country.
Rough county makes some excellent affordable stuff. May not be as Gucci as kings or teraflex etc. But they make a solid product for a great price. Mad respect for rouch country and their commitment to quality at a lower price.
The 4Runnee is omitted because it’s not coming out till this fall lol
I meant if you own a current or previous 4 runner you don't get the discount.
WHAT IS A "WRANGER"?
Jeep wrangler
They're not selling because of dealer markups. The dealers are responsible for this mess.
Dealers definitely make it tough to buy today
Overpriced garbage people are not stupid , toyota need to rethink their whole marketing
How toyota gets back on track fast
Toyota lied to us and built the vehicles using sloppy American processes.
Really can't argue that. Bit what we have now is all brands are exactly the same. The good old days of toyota being the reliability and longevity king are over.
Toyota is eating crow that every other manufacturer has chewed down for the last 10 years. Now all the others have perfected the modern turbo engine and Toyota is still figuring it out.
Very good point. This is new territory for them in turbo trucks
@@SamkoWorkShopTo be fair, Toyota has had pickups with turbodiesels since the mid 2000s. Talking about the Hilux of course. They can sell you a base model of that under $20k, has a torque exceeding the previous Tacoma's V6 with double the fuel economy to boot (1GD-FTV). The earlier engines (1KD-FTV) did have initial teething issues (cracked pistons) but resolved in the end. The turbos themselves are not the problem but the diesel particulate filter are. Toyota does have experience in turbos (2JZ-GTE, 3S-GTE, 1JZ-GTE engines). What it doesn't have is turbos with simultaneously dealing with strict US emissions and CAFE laws. You understand that for an engine to be fuel economical, its internal moving masses must be as thin and as light as possible while the increased stresses of turbos require the opposite. So you're looking for the middle road. This was something both Ford and GM invested early on, and although it isn't a smooth road, Ford has already over 10 years with its Ecoboost engines.
@ChrisRobato big difference between a turbo diesel and a turbo gas. And it took ford 4 almost 5 years to get the ecoboost to be reliable. And chevys original 2.7 was a mess for 3 years too. Trucks put alot of demand on a gas turbo. Now diesel turbos are a different story with how they work and they are excellent truck motors. Yoy do makes some great points though!
@@SamkoWorkShop Turbo Diesels have immensely beefy rods, pistons and cranks that are also heavy. These components can absorb stress like no gas engine can, however their sheer weight means you can't rev them high hence why diesels have such low redlines. The beefier rods, pistons, cranks are, the heavier they are, and the more energy it takes to turn them. For turbodiesel, diesel produces more energy than gasoline, so it's not a problem for them. But for gasoline, the more energy is needed, the more gasoline is needed, hence, an engine with heavy beefed up parts isn't as economical as an engine with lighter, thinner parts. So if you have to design an engine as energy efficient as possible, you have to make the moving parts as light as possible, and internal friction as low as possible. However the first part runs contrary to what you need for a turbo engine which requires beefier parts. If your purpose is performance only, your solution is obvious. But if you have to require fuel economy with it, you are forced to deal with compromises. With the second part, reducing internal friction, it tends to result in engines designed with loose thin piston rings, which also increases the danger of fuel seeping through cylinder walls into the oil crankcase, resulting in fuel dilution. You already have one infamous case here and that's with Honda's 1.5 liter turbo engines. The fuel dilution eventually will damage moving parts of the engine critically. Breaking a thin piston ring would also be a catastrophic result.
The New CEO killed the golden goose
Let's hope all those 3.4L motors are fucked up, they can throw them all in the 🗑️ & start making the 5.7 V8 again... 🤷 Like they never should have stopped making to begin with lol
The v8 will be missed for a very long time. Sad that government is forcing them to go to baby turbos
They are Woke. Wont change. They should have kept the v6 and 5.7 as options like their competitors.
@@smokeylake3150 the v6 and the v8 will be missed. Sad times
Buy a LandRover Defender they are more reliable 😆
$1500? That's it? Seriously?
😂best we get so far. But I'm still not running out to get one
Those discount offers are INSULTING‼️👎🏻💩
True.
It's almost like. They purposely dont want your car to last to long...
I sure hope that's not the case😂
@@SamkoWorkShopyeah well. I have to say I am legitimately dismayed. As someone who loves automobiles I'm dismayed. I look at things and just think "they can do better than this". The quality and craftsmanship is lacking. It's like they don't care. None of them care. Over a hundred years making automobiles. It's really disappointing. And with artificial intelligence, running these things. The science to produce quality is surely there. We can test plastics. Steel. Tensile strength. Whatever. High strength steel. Ultra high strength steel. Friction. Load through a wire. Everything. Everything in a freakn car can be tested and designed. These companies have billions of dollars. What other reason can they have for turning out this crap? Other than either they dont care. Or they dont want it to last. We've progressed far enough every single part can be spec'd. Tolerances. There is no excuse. But I think it's the same that happend to tools. Take old hand tools throw them in a bender and you can see how many lbs per inch it takes to bend them. Because they couldn't figure out the exact needed they used higher quality steel to be safe. Then take new hand tools and do the same and they bend with considerably less force. Because now they are calculating to give the bare minimum quality steel. Often not even the minimum they'll take the chance you won't break it and return it. Cars went the same direction. Always been that way but now they are really pushing the limits. Most won't notice though they'll be paying attention to the electronic gizmos (if they work). I'm annoyed over the third gen tacoma I bought never mind the rest of the newer b.s. The standards are SO LOW. The expectations SO LOW. I see no real progress now In like the last 40 years. Mini TV screen and junk cameras on the cars. Whoop dee Doo.
@itsallminor6133 this is a fantastic comment and very well said. Agree 100%. It's disgusting what the automotive world has become. Absolutely disgusting
@@SamkoWorkShop I get upset. 🤣. If you can think of another reason for them turning out this crap I would love to hear it justified. I vote for they dont care and they do it on purpose
Aussies have issues with new engines as well. Diesels are more popular there.
“Hot Vee” - BMW had issues and now Big T is acting like they are smarter than physics. 😂
All that in a big truck that can fit a more robust design that would be easier to cool down.
Someone please correct me if I’m writing some nonsense. 😂❤
Not sure what's happening with toyota. But I sure hope they get it sorted fast. This is not good
That tt V6 sounds like a design flaw. Looked good on paper but doesn't work in real life. I'm sure they designed it to be robust but doesn't work irl. So funny people keep saying Toyotas been doing turbo for years and yet here we are. Better to be dealing with fuel filter recall than blown engine recalls 😂
Agree on all points. And your right. The real world is where real testing happens.
😂
The 2018 LS500 has the same engine . Why don't we see more LS500 engine failures after 6 years now in 2024??? After 4 years this engine was in the LS500 for testing Toyota didn't think there was any problems before they put it into the 2022 Tundra ?? Is the problem in the main bearing cap????
The LS500 isn't a truck. You can't look at engines in isolation. The external loads are much higher on the truck, not to mention "Toyota" drivers probably takes care of and drive their vehicles a little differently than most "Lexus" drivers.
Good question. I could argue that trucks are used differently. But we have seen 3 recent lx600s go down with same issue. So not sure. I hope toyoa gets it dialed in adapter though. And I sure wish toyota would just give a new crate motor to the people that have these failures rather that trying to rebuild the entire engine and put everything back right.
If external load was the issue, then Tundras that hauls heavy loads or trailers should have more engine failures, but it seems not to be the case.we have people stating that they been hauling heavy for 30k miles with no engine failures and we have people with very low mileage that haven't haul anything with engine failures??
30% overpriced
Agree
It takes 2-3 versions to get these motors as close to perfect as possible. Just avoid that first version, don't care if you think Toyota is the god of engineering reliability. I think they may have had a leg up in design of the Tacoma's iForce turbo 4cyl, so may be less worries there in version one. Time will tell, but I really want someone to crack it open, so we can see if they really built a bulletproof motor, and not blowing smoke up fanboy's butts. If it is built, you'll forget the V6 existed. Upgrade intercooler, drop-in turbo, and maybe tubing. Don't even need to go for more power. More efficient turbo is going to run cooler at same power. All without the added weight and required space of hybrid batteries.
Time will tell if they are good or not. But agree skipping the first couple years is a good idea
Diesel is not flammable….
But some how 12 caught on fire from this
The fuel filter are on the top left side of the engine it was pouring down into the valley of the engine were the turbo is and turbos get very hot up to 500 degrees sometimes during regen I can see it catching fire at those Temps
Toy boys can’t get it through there head that Toyota sucks now.
I guess they'll finally get the jeep experience lol
Shame on Toyota
Quality craftmanship is NOT something I think about when I see built in Mexico.
What I do think of... "Why is this thing 50k?"
Same as vehicles built in the U.S. by the big 3 here? They ain't worth a fuck either lol
I'm at the point where I don't care where it's built as long as it's built well. But we rarely see built well anywhere today.
It's the 3.0 V6 all over again
I sure hope they get this dialed in. But if that Ladder bearing cap is the problem thats gonna be huge!
New jeep are more reliable that toyota , its over for toyota fanboi
Jeep reliability keeps going up and toyota keeps going down now. Interesting times in the auto world
im think subaru and honda is edging out toyota.... toyota seems very cheaply made.
Subs and Hondas are great. Interestingly next year some Subarus will be made in the USA and not in Japan.
@@SamkoWorkShop not the worst thing. Not a fan of Mexico builds
Tundra's are blowing up cause toyota has become a junk company.
they sure are digging a hole on the cooperate side and their vehicles are suffering from some first couple year teething issues. I hope they can turn it all around soon and get back on track.
The cranks themselves are being made too thin to withstand the pressures. Straight from the Jtekt tech who set up the tooling.
Did not know that. Thank you for the info
That main cap set up is used on a lot of engines with huge durability success. New engines always have problems.
Good to know. I'm sure toyota chose that style for durability. Bit something is going on and I hope they get it sorted quick
Think I’d be worried if I forked out high dollars on a fourth gen Tacoma about now. 😳. “GLOAT” while you can 4th gen Tacoma fanboys/girls; red flags 🚩 are already showing up on the latest Tacoma platform. 🥲
