For all the people whining about why this is on TED, please remember that the E in TED stands for Entertainment :)

I see a lot of comments from people who don't understand the point of the video. My recommendation is that you watch until the very end. The last impersonation sums it up pretty well.
I think that Sarah Jones is trying to make the point that technological advances are not the most important change our society will face: it is rather how we interact with all cultures and people. Sure, the world is facing a lot of changes that will affect medicine, food, etc; but the most important thing we can do is learn how to interact with and accept all types of people and personalities. THAT is what will determine our future.

Close you eyes, randomly select and then listen carefully. She really gets the characters and their accents. This is a real gift. I want her at my next party. Bet her partner is smiling too.

She portrayed all 11 personalities quite well...I've met someone like each of these people, and see the beauty in her portrayals. Multi-fasited world, multi-fasited lives, the ultimate reality. One love.

Wait, it's totally great and empowering! Ugh, people, come on. To get anything from tedtalks, one MUST have an open mind. She's experienced all of this within her family and life. The message is beautiful.

How does this comply with the TED motto "Ideas worth spreading" ? While it not completely devoid of meaning, it just seems very poor. What's the point? What's the message? Why is this on TED?
By opposition, it does perpetuate the use of stereotypes. Yes, an open mind does allow you to see past it and actually understand cultures beyond their image, this performance is simply... lacking.

    • @rozziew2399

Well put. What I liked was that she put herself out there, and for me, it was entertaining, I'm glad I was able to see past and understand. It's simply a little slice of her world. Thanks for the input

And why can't her overall talent be seen as an idea worth spreading? I didn't even know about the depths of what she preformed until now. She was great. And she wasn't trying to be stereotypical or racist, that was you guys perceptions. These people that she preformed were characters, not just "races".

Incredible! You know, we ask questions all the time, and we often do not get the answers we are looking for. But if we watch, if we really LISTEN, we will find the Truth behind the answers given. I think that is what Sarah Jones is all about. And if you "don't get it", you never will. Wonderful talk!

I love the way this makes you think about your conceptions of people and how all cultures have all kinds of people living within them. She is playing all kinds of races and ethnicities, and is identifying them through single items of clothing, but is actually making unique and interesting people in the minute she is letting the characters talk. Absolutely amazing talent and absolutely amazing ted talk. :)

Thrilling !! Perhaps I will start to give a few if my inner characters a little more wiggle room -- more than a sound bite. And after hearing some of Sara's characters' messages, I am behooved to let them voice things of value. Some of us natural mimics, but here this skill is amplified to have relevance while entertaining. It renders craft into art.

the point was to look at now thru the eyes of the future, what questions might be asked and how would different people in a "ask a random stranger way" respond to those questions.
I think it could have been more thoughtful with its questions, but i think she wanted to show the spontaneity of her presentation on this stage.
but it did not provide the landmark ideas that i used to getting from TED.
that being said, i thought she did a great job and I think others should watch it.
