- Sarah Jones changes personas with the simplest of wardrobe swaps. In a laugh-out-loud performance, she invites 11 "friends" from the future on stage-from a fast-talking Latina to an outspoken police officer-to ask them the questions all of us want answered.

For all the people whining about why this is on TED, please remember that the E in TED stands for Entertainment :)
It's actually Technology, Entertainment and Dominicans ! hahahahahahahahaha if you know what I am saying
I see a lot of comments from people who don't understand the point of the video. My recommendation is that you watch until the very end. The last impersonation sums it up pretty well.
I think that Sarah Jones is trying to make the point that technological advances are not the most important change our society will face: it is rather how we interact with all cultures and people. Sure, the world is facing a lot of changes that will affect medicine, food, etc; but the most important thing we can do is learn how to interact with and accept all types of people and personalities. THAT is what will determine our future.
melpk beautifully said
Yes! I'm looking at the 357 thumbs downs, and I'm thinking, who ARE these 357 people?! Why? What's not to like?
Close you eyes, randomly select and then listen carefully. She really gets the characters and their accents. This is a real gift. I want her at my next party. Bet her partner is smiling too.
Lmao she's so real, some of y'all totally missed some of the things she said that pointed out real social issues happening in the world.
She portrayed all 11 personalities quite well...I've met someone like each of these people, and see the beauty in her portrayals. Multi-fasited world, multi-fasited lives, the ultimate reality. One love.
Last character was VERY moving, VERY captivating, and made you truly think twice about the ones on the street whom we pass by daily..
Thank you a Sarah Jones
Wait, it's totally great and empowering! Ugh, people, come on. To get anything from tedtalks, one MUST have an open mind. She's experienced all of this within her family and life. The message is beautiful.
How does this comply with the TED motto "Ideas worth spreading" ? While it not completely devoid of meaning, it just seems very poor. What's the point? What's the message? Why is this on TED?
By opposition, it does perpetuate the use of stereotypes. Yes, an open mind does allow you to see past it and actually understand cultures beyond their image, this performance is simply... lacking.
Well put. What I liked was that she put herself out there, and for me, it was entertaining, I'm glad I was able to see past and understand. It's simply a little slice of her world. Thanks for the input
AGREED
Why has no one gave this girl a movie roll yet? With a good script she would be awesome.
she was in that spike lee movie some years ago like a bit part..
I was thinking the same thing. Her ability to embody different personalities is amazing! She is brilliant!
She already has good script in her!
Wow, this brings back memories. Studied her work college, brilliant stuff. I think people commenting here are too young or don't know much about performance arts. In any case, it is a social commentary, it is not supposed to be funny. There are lots of clips on youtube.
She's amazing
Natasha Nissi, similar natural speaking voice as well.
And why can't her overall talent be seen as an idea worth spreading? I didn't even know about the depths of what she preformed until now. She was great. And she wasn't trying to be stereotypical or racist, that was you guys perceptions. These people that she preformed were characters, not just "races".
Comedian empaths are as entertaining as they are rare.
Andy Gee that is a prefect term for what she is!
Andy Gee True. This is the first time I see something like this. Ever. I did saw people doing accents before, of course, but not with an emotional impact.
Characterisations without stereotyping. Very skilled performer/activist
That last woman was so adorable! She gave me some warm feelings. :)
Man... she's got so many souls living in her self seems like she is not even performing when she transforms and they way she would switch between them. A-mazing...
Delivering what she is delivering without stereotyping along with a deeper meaning and message to the masses. Brilliant...
She deserves far far more recognition and appreciation.
Hands down to this woman. She’s incredibly talented.
I like this don't get why everyone's confused
Me either. It's just a great, understanding and lovingly performed piece, not to mention, funny :)
Incredible! You know, we ask questions all the time, and we often do not get the answers we are looking for. But if we watch, if we really LISTEN, we will find the Truth behind the answers given. I think that is what Sarah Jones is all about. And if you "don't get it", you never will. Wonderful talk!
Sarah is amazing. Well done.
'intellectual stop & frisk' :) loved all the characters!
why are people here so stuck-up?
Every character had a message. I like the old "houseless" woman's best.
One must be really an observer and a caring person to get to the point of how diverse and individual we humans are. Then add time to the equation! Some plausible future scenarios?! Wow!! Loving work, really thoughtful and insightful. Standing audience should give a clue to openmindness. Thanks TED :)
Buena elección
en el largo repertorio TED. Sarah es tan comunicativa como tú misma, y el tema de la pluralidad ha sido de mis eternos favoritos. Martín
Phenomenal! The last message is the best one.
Oh-Ma-Gawd!!!! She is flipping a-MAZING!! 😂😂😂
Multiple personality disorder taken to the extreme. Hehe.
This was funny, insightful, interesting, and amazing. Great TED.
Ivo Teixeira i though the same when I first saw her video. It’s like making a career out of personality disorder lol. But you have to appreciate her talent! She is great 👍
it blows my mind how she seemed to "lose" her british accent
Well... Once she revealed that she doesn't speak British language initially, technically, she didn't "lose" the accident.
oh guess i wasnt listening well hahaha still my mind is partly blown
Brilliant! So inspiring!
I looooooooooove the hip hop artist impersonator! I couldn't stop laughing ahaha
Wow. She's dope.
Accents were amazing
Thank you Sarah Jones this was amazing. Such raw talent. Very talented. I appreciate your art spread to the world.
Just amazing performance!
She was amazing. I would like to see more of her work.
Loved every minute!!!
there is a deeper message here, it requires some thought on your part. but by the comments some of you wrote, you've lost your humanity, its no wonder we're on a merry go round , get off the ride and start living a worthy life.
Giver her the Oscar!
This is awesome. Ted has always had and released entertainment segments. This one is also enlightening :) They're sporadic but great.
How can it be that Tyler Perry is a millionaire, but we have never heard of Sarah Jones. She is this generation's Robin Williams.
That was amazing!! Your homeless lady living on the streets of NYC made me emotional.. 😭😭Thank you for bringing her to TED and getting us to look up and around at Houselessness and doing what we can to help those in Need
Only the narrow minded wouldn't get this think outside the box!
I'm not narrow minded but what is she trying to get at? I'm really wondering. Now back to the video.
Just keep watching. I had to keep telling myself to keep an open while watching, : )
I am comparing this comment section with the sarah jones commentors of 2009.
It seems this new generation are miserable critics. Sad state of the future

Sarah Jones is amazinggggg and highly gifted!!! Nice job! I loved her performance and responses to questions that are of interests to highlight ESP. with the last three characters ;-)
laugh or leave*
A true superstar!
She's amazing! Using different friends voices and cultures to pass on the message of peace, change, respect and creativity which express the changes that the world is quickly moving through. Very clever and very talented congrats Sarah!
Brillant.
Gosh, you all should stop being so negative about this performance. If her act meant enough to be on this show, then it must be quite important. It's here, they love her, get over it, and learn to laugh to leave. There's plenty of other stand up acts on UA-cam.
I love the way this makes you think about your conceptions of people and how all cultures have all kinds of people living within them. She is playing all kinds of races and ethnicities, and is identifying them through single items of clothing, but is actually making unique and interesting people in the minute she is letting the characters talk. Absolutely amazing talent and absolutely amazing ted talk. :)
"Intellectual stop and frisk" :D
YES! Lakota pride! I love Sarah Jones.
Very Nice!! The last impression brought me to tears.
That was beautiful
So good
This is wonderful! If you think TED is only and exclusively about space travel and curing cancer and jetpacks, well you're the one missing out.
Thrilling !! Perhaps I will start to give a few if my inner characters a little more wiggle room -- more than a sound bite. And after hearing some of Sara's characters' messages, I am behooved to let them voice things of value. Some of us natural mimics, but here this skill is amplified to have relevance while entertaining. It renders craft into art.
gosh...the last character! so fitting! the entire performance was incredible!! love it!
She examines her world and creates characters that represents a global village, from her own backyard. She deep.
You people are rude and awful I hope negativity isn't in the future
How do i thumbs up this comment?
Wait, what's wrong with saying your opinion. Not everything in the world is great. For example this video is just bad, in my opinion, I don't find it funny or in anyway inlighted. The best thing for companies like Ted to do is listen to feed back.
silverface125 I can respect that
I personally thought that the 11 characters were more like stereotypical and racist caricatures and just because she talks about her multi cultural background doesn't make it okay. If she were white I am sure no one would be happy about this.
I don't necessarily think it was racist I think she just played each charter using her interpretation of them I mean this world is full of different ethnicity's where all different but where all different but there's only one race the human race but I see where you're coming from and my interpretation is not yours
Bravo! Good job Sarah!
the point was to look at now thru the eyes of the future, what questions might be asked and how would different people in a "ask a random stranger way" respond to those questions.
I think it could have been more thoughtful with its questions, but i think she wanted to show the spontaneity of her presentation on this stage.
but it did not provide the landmark ideas that i used to getting from TED.
that being said, i thought she did a great job and I think others should watch it.
The letter E in TED stands for Entertainment. That's what this is.
Loved it!
I am seriously confused as to who the real Sarah Jones is. With all the accents and characters, her "normal" self could be another character. But, hey she has a talent, being able to embody other personalities is not something we can all do.
more of this!!!! I love it!
I like this her characters are very caricature like, but fun. Not as educational as I usually find TED but still good.
Im blown away...
What a trip, dayummm! I loved it and almost cried at the end :-(
Sarah's A very brilliant and entertaining impressionist! Genuine talent, who could have her own show!
Wooooooow! Phenomenal!! Absolutely mind blowing. And, the last character bought the tears from me. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
#inhabits
Sarah Jones, that was really impressive!!
Spectacular. Thank you Sarah.
This Woman is Brilliant!!!
Very entertaining impersonations, and talent.
You got me when you switch from British to America. ;)
I could have listened to her first impression of the old Jewish woman Lorraine Levine for hours, that one is my favorite
Truly, truly, truly amazing talent!
The last one got me choked up.
Woe!! Brilliant !
That last character, though...simply amazing
On Minute 11:00. Paraphrased from Gene Roddenberry: "Why has Captain Picard a bold head? Because nobody cares by the 24th century"
Wow! Amazing! I felt like all of these different personalities were real and distinct different people.
Wow! 😱 loved this!
Wow. .. she's good.
One of her messages might be, we are more close related than we thought, is not a matter of different aspects of ouselves, but how we are suppose to respect those differences, she is more real than most showing an amazing talent.
So the last part killed it
Totally. Brilliant!!! So entertaining...
That was scary and amazing all at the same time. Wow what a performance.
I dont usually make any comments however this is muchly deserving of a Thank you for being so real with it and sticking with the main goal in mind. Strangely beautiful i love it cause its real! Cheers.
This was great!
Love love love!!! #MindBlown 🤯🙌🏾👏🏾
Cool! I like her!!
Sarah... you such a doll !! Love you to bits !!!
Wowww Like I'm Amazed Of The Range
I challenge anyone complaining about her saying "like" a lot to go up in front of a couple hundred people and answer unseen questions without having to verbally pause for thought once
Wonderful!
She is brilliant!!!!
Brilliant.
This woman is amazing.
Crazy no one else sees this ... last persona is dead on
This is amazing!!:D
