Son's First Salute

- Many people use Skype to stay connected with friends and loved ones. This is especially true for one deployed Soldier, Master Sgt. Marshall Rader, who didn't want to miss his son's oath as an officer and first salute to him on May 10, 2013.

The proudest father on planet earth, period.
That's right!
Woah. A Skype call that didn’t start with “Hey can you hear me?”
Hahahahaha
Lol
We’re finally evolving
The smile says it all. He showed more teeth than stripes and that's saying a lot for an E-8! Congratulations to father and son!
His son is my Commander now. His dad is a CSM now as well.
@@NEWCHAPTER-gp2xf Success is obviously being obtained in this family and I bet your commander has been well mentored given his father’s success.
Army Cav., nothing less than perfection.
My Uncle Joe was Armored Cav. 2 tours in Vietnam 67-69. He made it home safe. Wish all the men that served there did.
To all that have served and arw currently serving, thank you from an old retired MSgt. I'm proud to xall eaxh and evwey one of my fellow veterans my brothers and sisters.
now THATS how you give someone a handshake
Hooah
This is what real Trooper does , we adapt , improvise , overcome , and succeed . Awesome way to be there for his son ! There is nothing better than to hear your father say " I'm proud of you son ! " Those few words he will carry for the rest of his life .
And comparatively few of us never hear it. This really was a heartwarming moment.
man, those cavalry hats are just BEAUTIFUL
Agreed and I'm a Sailor...lol
I have one too.
Tradition is so important to every culture. This one was extra good because of the love and support from dad and family. Dad almost broke his face with his smile.
That's just the COOLEST thing ever. Congratulations to your son, yes I cried a bit
That's a speck of dust in my eye, I'm not tearing up.
LOL - I gotta remember that one.
How emotional, may God bless all of our soldiers.
What a proud father, so cute.
Now he must address his son as "Sir" hahaha
I was thinking the same thing
Only in Uniform though
@@Food24112 probably not even then. One of my uncles still called my grandfather "sir" even though he was commissioned
He addresses his son with pride
Yeah , probably not , he can still call him kid .
You always want your children to do better than you, this is a perfect example of it,as a parent, you could not be prouder,to have a son or daughter to do better and excel, this is a great thing
Very proud father right there! I was at my son first salute. One of my proudest days.
Lots of respect for this moment. You can't put a price on a father seeing his son stand before him as a good man.. God I can't wait to see my boy when he finishes boot.
What's really crazy... I recognized the room the father was standing in. I was there during 2010 to 2011 and I eye witnessed the sad day several Americans were killed there.
Just being able to see your own son comission is cool! But the father being the first one he got to salute is amazing!! there are folks that live for such moments!
Incredibly NEAT moment, but the father saluted the son. The only enlisted member of the US armed forces who is saluted by officers is in the Navy.
RIght, the father did initiate the salute, which is regulation. I am aware of what you're talking about but the father was an enlisted MSgt saluting his son who was deemed a commissioned officer. There's nothing wrong there.
I read "the first one he got to salute" to mean that the son initiated the salute. I'm glad we are actually on the same page.
Robert Hudson Same here, It's easy to spark up a UA-cam comments battle if words are not carefully read hahaha!
+Robert Hudson your ass backwards ! The father being enlisted initiated the salute! That goes for all branches Navy Marine Corps Army Air Force...enlisted and lower ranks salute higher more senior ranks first!!!
Love the Old school Cavalry headdress! The British Army is (not by choice) shedding Battalions and traditions left, right and center. You guys make sure you hang on to yours. Great video.
Looks kind of stupid to me!
Jorn41 well you are a dipshit
Well, that's your opinion.
What the hell. The British Army has so much tradition and so much to be proud of. Why the fuck are you guys throwing it all away? Let me guess PC leftist cunts.
Craig Morgan Thanks for answering my questions about the hats! I have wondered why they are so different. Now I know what they are, but why? (I know it's a good reason and they look great!)
A respectful tip of the Stetson from an old cavalry corporal to the entire Rader family. I hope you all are safe, well, and happy.
One big happy family! I tried to get my son into both the Naval Academy and NROTC. Got into NROTC and then dropped out about 2 months in. I guess our dreams can't be pushed on our kids. Congratulations 8+ years later!
When he says "I got my coffee" shows he is a really cool dude and just figures things out. Coming from a good place
Tears I'm sure we're flowing . Thank you for your service .
What a great father with a very proud son.....Good luck to both!
How nice to raise such a great kid. God Bless.
Fantastic Commissioning of your son Sir. What a proud moment!
Above and beyond in putting it all together!🇺🇸
I get this. I was commissioned as the first officer in the family after my mom, stepdad and dad were all enlisted Soldiers (as was I). It's a real transition.
One very moving video 👍
Thank you both for your service🇺🇸
Gods Blessings with you both
Amen
Ret, U.S.Army😇🇺🇸
Wow, what a thrill for families! John P.
Man those were some hearty handshakes
Outstanding, congratulations to both of you!
If that was me, I couldn't be prouder to be the first to salute my son and call him sir.
Proud dad. Thank you both for your service 🇺🇸
Gotta be kinda weird that if they ever met while on duty the dad would need to salute him and call him sir
We are so proud of our cadet’s performance in the International Rifle Postal Match!
Georgia Military College's Team 1 earned 2nd place with a score of 1385. Thank your for this video!!!!
How cool is that? I could feel is pride in watching that ceremony!
I now how that feels when you over Sea,miss your Family a lot but we push on with the Mission
god bless master sergeant radar and his son..thank you and your son and entire family for your service..because of you and your son and all the military men and women and their families I enjoy my life and freedom because of all of you..thank you..i prey for our service members and their family every night
That’s a dad doing what dads do for their family.
I could tell the father is really proud
Probably the proudest dad in the world that day
Awesome link to family, tradition and Love.
Nice to see him so happy.
Life time moment for a proud father and son
shit I was deployed with these guys haha...my Battalion Sgt Major shook his hand at the end haha... good old FOB Gamberi
Just found this by accident. Outstanding!! He got a coin from me for my first salute. Thanks.
General Buford would be proud.... (commanding officer, 1st. Cavalry Division, Cavalry Corps, Army of The Potomac, July 1st. 1863....
That is the spirit of the US military!
I remember mine like it was yesterday- RiP CSM Beauchamp.
May the sunlight of the Spirit follow You AND Your son.
you are such a beautiful person, innocent smile............
That was awesome a proud moment for father and son
Such a great rich moment!
I’m proud of you son brought me a couple ears
Good job dad! God Bless America
My brother retired as SM after 26 years and 4 deployments.

****THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE ; ALWAYS RESPECT & SALUTE****
Outstanding Sir !
Awesome! No one left behind!
I'M SALUT for You ,Thank you for your Service **
That was just OUTSTANDING!
I didn't know that fact about getting a silver eagle, thats like the perfect reward.
The challenge to a newly-commissioned officer is, "You pay for the first salute. You EARN all the others."
North Georgia! Represent
That was OUTSTANDING!!!!
This was super cool!
That was nice. Big thumbs up.
Im tryna do the same thing but my dad is a captain so not so easy to get over😂
He is Saluting the rank, not the skin. I've had many of butter balls as lost sidewalk commandos in the field, couldn't read a map or properly command a squad, platoon or company when they first arrived. The skin first needs the OJT 1st not the rank, if smart he or she will be a sponge for his or her first year. NCO's like his Father are the backbone of the Military!!!
Awesome! Congratulations!
Heh, my dad swore me into the army, he was a USCG Lieutenant, it was shortly after 9/11, so he had the pride to do that, was there at my graduation... Gave him a salute.
That's awesome. Well done
Was regular Army early to mid 60's when a massive re orginization and equiptment and uniform change was happening from uniforms, equiptment, weapons and vehicles. That army is ncient now from all aspects. Im glad the present Army is far advanced as we were compared to the one of WW2 and
Korea...and certaily Viet Nam era.
First Team!
Outstanding! Hand salute
,
He should be addressing to his son, sir, not here's your first salute Greg! Lol. I'm proud of you, sir-son! Lol
god bless america
His smile 😊 look's like jim carry 👍
That smile 😊
That was awesome!
Im happy for them :)
Thats the University of North Georgia! Senior military college.
Gratulation from Germany from German Army ,SALUT , Thank you for your Service **
Like they say in naruto. The next generation will always surpass the previous
after you've been in almost 20 years, and youre child in a few years out ranks you.. day 1 lol
I checked my Skype...
so did i haha
+Martin the Malnourished Musket Man Same here...I was like "well, fuck you" xD
OOH-RAH‼️🍻
if i be saluting to my son as commissioned officer I will violate the tradition by giving money to my son to buy his new car. imagine he got to finish in academy therefore saving me money for his tuition fee, very proud and lucky father you are.
awesome
Shame on those internet providers.
Excellent.
A commission is earned by a very hard journey, despite what Hollywood says.
As a retired Australian serviceman, I know how difficult it is, not all aspirants succeed.
Our two sons served, one still does, and he's worked frequently with you Yanks, both here in Australia, Hawaii, Nevada, (Nellis), and one or two rather 'naughty' places that Independence Day would be familiar with, NO!, don't go stupid!, it's just about modern stuff, nothing to do with Aliens, that's all pure dipshit bullshit, fantasyland crap, except for the little known town in southern Tasmania, but, that's another post.
I know a fair bit of how the Father feels, I felt the same, as my sons graduated.
Their Mother was so, so proud, as only a Mother could be.
As only a Mother has the unique right to be.
Hey, it's my bro-in-law!
Nice ! ❤🇺🇸
when the son now at ranks the dad. You know his dad is gonna smoke him at the dinner table out of uniform 😂😂😂😂 19D Gary Owen 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Can see that happening:
Dad: you're now out of uniform
Son..ATTENTION!!!! HALF-RIGHT....FACE!!!! FRONT LEANING REST POSITION....MOVE!!!!
IN CADENCE...EXERCISE!!!!!!
@@chrismc410 The funny thing is the mom is a LTC. So she will at ease the son.
@@NEWCHAPTER-gp2xf or she might say to hell with it and smoke them both anyway.
Am proud of you son makes my eyes rain 😢😢😂
That was awesome
