This has been one of your most thought provoking Lives. It is really forcing me to think about my own motivations and perceived inadequacies that has lead me to acquire a closet full of bags, watches, jewelry, and clothing that I rarely use and really don’t need. I have totally fallen for the hype and forked over my hard earned money for the temporary “feel good” moment.

I take issues with any company trying to control what happens to their products after it's sold. Once a person owns the product, they have the right to do whatever they want with it.

it's when the company selling manufactures nothing itself
i think luxury promise is a big target they sell 90% chanel stuff and probably more per day than chanel
individuals selling is private and legal but taking trade as a business model is trademark exploitation and untested in the law a lot of their vintage bags look like superfakes i've seen

‘Luxury’ is hurting the prestige of Luxury. It’s nothing short of scandalous.. especially Chanel. They have doubled their prices in a few years and the quality is nothing short of shameful. Hermes is another story, the quality is still there. I will never buy another Chanel or Vuitton. There are better brands for less money. Cartier same thing .. since when is a freaking Nail bracelet or a simple bangle with screws luxury?? People need to wake up and do their research. Cartier used to be the epitome of luxury and Prestige and now it’s common trash. .

at this point, people really buy for the brand name... speaking of cartier, I wonder too why their jewellery so expensive. I get it's solid gold. but how is their gold is different from other goldsmith 😅

Im that Zara girl with a designer bag😂 I dont buy designer clothes purely because my weight goes up & down so think for me it would be a waste of money. I do have a few lux jackets & shoes tho. I can get away with an oversized jacket or coat so always a bit of wiggle room if needed. Ive got 3 Chanel bags and none of them have ever left the house or been photographed but I still get a lot of pleasure owning them

I cannot wear any house’s ready to wear anyway. I am 5’3 and 126 lbs. these garments are made for much taller people. If you alter a garment too much, it changes the overall structure and it does not hang properly. A bag is a one size fits all luxury.

@@SuperDacob, the reason I mentioned it was because they all want you to buy ready to wear and other goods to be offered a coveted bag. You did mention the journey and it was in the chats a lot. Not causing trouble. That comment was because I feel the bag is what can elevate me because I cannot wear the clothes. This was all briefly mentioned in the video. I always try to stay on topic. Can you send me a link to the video you did about non inclusive sizing? Thanks for everything, Dacob.

So wealth means you have to wear designer from head to toe? Wearing Zara and one designer item ( bag), means you aren’t wealthy?
Wealthy people don’t always wear all designer. What is wealth? Health is wealth. Owning land is wealth, etc.
But I don’t like the angle that it’s implied that one is a ‘poser’ if they are not going all in designer wise.

We are owning too much and not getting the same pleasure from things as we used to. The amount of ordinary, everyday, good people giving in to the urge to buy a luxury product to tick off a wish list - and I’m starting to get like that these days - is quite scary. Prior to social media we knew which lane we ran in and if your hard work paid off and you got lucky, you could slide into the next lane but now we’re running all over the track like displaced ants not knowing where we belong. Our priorities are changing and it’s not for better.

Wise words .. our value system has completely vanished .. elegance, education, honesty, etc were once what people strived for.. now it is fake, money, material ownership.. no matter the cost. I’m very worried for what will happen 10-20 years down the road because so much of this social media generation focus only on appearance and status. It’s not a good omen for our future .

🔥 an important discussion to have -- thank you for sharing your perspective. I feel many folks don't bother to question what they feel and why. Brand marketing thrives on that. Yet we are bombarded with it, so it takes so much energy to investigate your intentions and potentially make a different choice. It's kind of a mess when you look at it.

I have recently made quite a few purchases from the real real and I've been really happy with everything I got. I've been buying a good amount of clothes on there and depop too as I've gone up a couple sizes this year and needed clothes that fit me but wanted to buy nice pieces BUT not spend an arm and a leg.
Last night I bought six shirts (Diane von Furstenberg, cinq á sept, piazza sempione, etc) and a pair of Chloé ballet flats and I only spent $169 with the shipping.
I also bought a few Christmas presents for family on there and am still in search of a few items but I'll take a break after that lol I have nothing bad to say about the real real. I've never sold with them personally but I'm a huge fan of their prices and selection

Hi Dacob, I just purchased a new lipstick & liner directly from Chanel’s website and the little black drawstring bag that they now give you is still made in China, but it’s now completely nylon or nylon-like material. I was expecting the cotton bag like you were showing in another video from the beauty section of the boutique. Maybe they only hand out the cotton bags when you buy from the store, not online. However, I still think this continues to cheapen the brand. For what we pay as consumers, we let them have their way with us because they know they we will still keep coming back for more. With that said, I too have purchased from pre-loved sites because of getting a tip from an influencer. If I can find a beautiful designer bag for a decent, yet still expensive price that is pre-loved, I’m going to snag it because I can’t stand paying the higher prices for lux brands that aren’t anywhere close to the quality that they used to be. JMO?

Great video and thought provoking. Makes me sad that fashion becomes no longer something you can enjoy but this constant chase for the latest and the most exclusive and you're being judged non stop . After all, you should have fun with your clothes, not end up in distress as many unfortunately do.
Glad I'm not easily swayed by social media and advertising. I know my style and chose items from various designers and non -designer brands to suit me. I love playing with my clothes. I see nothing wrong with wearing my vintage Chanel jacket with jeans and Adidas trainers or a designer handbag with a non designer t-shirt. Nobody should really dictate us what to wear and how. I don't understand also why some brands, mainly Hermes, force us to buy some unnecessary staff to be able to buy an actual bag. If the brand doesn't want to sell a product I'm after, they can do one. So many other quality brands to chose from these days.
Looking forward to your next amazing post 👌😊

Exactly right. Buying used, but buying 20 different bags, is not sustainable either. In order for a bunch of people to have a bunch of bags, a bunch more have to be produced. Just plain math. And those bags will ultimately end up in a landfill too, it will just take a little longer ...

It's so crazy this whole cycle that luxury brands have created. It's exhausting. I am completely turned off by Chanel right now and actually feel guilt when I want to purchase something. It's not buyers remorse, lol who is she, but it's me feeding into the monster chanel is creating. It's me giving money to a company who has downgraded their quality yet is charging more than ever, feeding into the overproduction, feeding into the corporate greed. I no longer see them as the dream bag to have or the iconic fashion house. Also as I get older I want quality over quantity, and I mean Chanel old school quality, leather inside and out, stitching that will last a few lifetimes. It's a struggle.

🔥 🔥 🔥 you are absolutely right. I believe that our society has lost what’s important, human value in which we care for each other. People are more focusing on obtaining material things, thinking they will increase their value in society. Material gain, which was further enabled by technological advancement, is the product of capitalism and became the main focus of our living. Corporations feed on our material desire. They’ll want more and more food (money) as they keep getting bigger and bigger. It’s unhealthy.

I could care less about exclusivity or status, and I don't buy overpriced status merchandise of any kind. I usually buy products from companies who started off in the businesses in the products they sell offering good quality at a fair price, so leather goods from fine leather goods companies who don't market themselves as luxury brands. For example Coach for bags). Vionic, Merrell for shoes. Various retailers for clothes. So I don't own anything resellers would take, but I also think stuff sold on resale markets are still overpriced, and personally wouldn't buy it. I think if somebody absolutely must have a Chanel flap bag or Cartier love bracelet, they should try to save a few bucks by buying it 2nd hand. At least they're not paying as much for a name, and somebody who has regrets can get some of their money back. Chanel lost its legal case in court to shut it down several years ago.

Honest question, Dacob, are you okay? If it's stopped being fun, and started feeling like pressure or a cult, I think almost all of us in the comments would be fine with you buying fewer things and simply showcasing your knowledge and style!
