Good Morning Doug. At the beginning of the restart, Bermuda charged $45.00 per passenger, whether they debarked or not. We were taking our family of 10. It cost me $450 extra. I think we will skip Mexico.
That's $42 per person, per port and that adds up quickly for a family of 4. Especially since most cruises out of my home port of Galveston visit Mexico.
Cruise lines need to understand that increasingly larger ships result in overcrowding at many ports. Increasing the taxes may result in reducing the number of cruise calls, increase revenue for Mexico, improving the overall experience for cruise visitors.
Exactly my opinion. Cruise companies are killing their own business model with these Megaships. It causes more and more ports to see cruising as a problem. If Mexico is to be skipped where do you move that capacity? In the Pacific you cannot easily replace Mexico with another foreign port that still is required for none US flagged ships. In the Caribbean there is already so much capacity that I do not think you can easily absorb whatever needs to be moved. So more trips to their private islands.
I heard on another UA-cam cruise channel I sun to that the taxation is NOT going to help the tourist infrastructure in any manner. It’s to help the Mexican National security forces and/or military as my first thought was them dreaming up yet another tourism tax. Has anyone else heard that?
I read a Frobes article that said the money would go to the Mexican military. This may not pass as the same thing happened in Alaska years ago. When the money stopped rolling in, Alaska made changes.
Morning g Doug, I love Mexico, but let’s not push it. Grand Cayman wants more ships to port, Dominican Republic is creating a new destination port, why not re explore Cuba? It’s a shame between cruise lines adding more pay to play and ports adding fees, cruising will become even more expensive. It’s a shame.
Happy Monday .. made it thru Thanksgiving .. except for hot water flooding my garage , kitchen tv not working & main bathroom toilet seat broken ..JUST ANOTHER HOLIDAY .. lol
Good morning Doug! Pushback on the per person tax or fee. Cruise ship destinations to Mexico bring tourist dollars, why double dip? Thanks for the updates and have a great day.
Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan....Cozumel, Costa Maya, Roatan, you'd think there would be more ports in central America and Mexico. Guess not! Some one should contact "Mr Sancho's" in Cozumel and them the party is about to be over!!
It's per person, per Mexican port. Plus the new $5 tax. So how many times you get the fee depends how many ports in Mexico the cruise stops at. The $5 is for port improvement. The purposed $46 is to fund their military further.
Question - when you say $42 a head, do you mean per cruiser, or for EVERYONE on board a ship? Because if it were just cruisers I could see the cruise line association making noise but ultimately passing along the fee to us cruisers. If it includes EVERYONE... well every cruise ship going to Mexico probably has at least 700 crew, and the megaships... well it says that Oasis of the Seas has over 2000 crew members. That's around $30k low end, and over $80k for Oasis that comes out of pocket for a cruise line. And you know that ultimately, the cruise line will find a way to get reimbursed for this i.e. it gets added to the cost of our cruising. So it's not just a $42 fee we'd have to pay, it's an additional $10-15 per person. Finally, just crunching the numbers here... if Mexico is just charging for cruisers (doubt it), that brings in over $80k for a ship with 2000 passengers, and over $235k for an Oasis class sailing at full double occupancy. Imagine a day where Cozumel has 5 of those 2000 passenger ships. Over $400k even if no one gets off the ship. So I get why Mexico is looking at this head tax.
Maybe it’s time to start looking at cruise ports here in the US rather than ports in countries that are starting to bite the hand that gives many in those countries a living. We have so many US and Canadian folks on one side of our country that have never visited the other side or the Gulf states. Have a cruise start from say New York, cruise up the New England ports, then down the eastern coast, around Florida (Florida Keys) around the US Gulf area. Folks can fly or train home with ease. Longer cruises could continue down into the Caribbean, stopping at friendly countries and through the Panama Canal to go up the western coast. At the same time one ship is leaving the New York port have a ship leave a western port. We have so much to see in our own backyard. Money would stay in the US. Just a thought.
fine skip Mexico.. Since the cruise lines would just charge the passengers. Which is overpriced already. I will take the cruise I have booked, but I will never cruise again with the over inflated prices.
We Galveston cruisers are so far west we don’t get a choice in whether we go to Mexico or not. Surely, with the massive corruption that is part and parcel of Mexican culture and politics, the Senate will be “persuaded” to vote down this greedy fee.
Skip Mexico. In fact, the U.S. should charge Mexico $42 per day per illegal immigrant they’ve allowed to cross their border into the U.S. That would make this fee fair all around.
I sincerely doubt the cruise lines will dump their Mexico itineraries over $42. There are too many ports that they would lose. The threat is a bargaining ploy to get Mexico to reduce the fee.
It appears that the entire world is trying to get cruising to be only for the wealthy. The protests and threats in Europe, Alaska reducing the number of ships, Mexico wanting to impose these new charges, etc.. Maybe the industry should have considered the impact on their ports of call before they kept making ships larger and larger, dropping the equivalent of a small city at these ports all the time makes it hard on the people that live there.. We love to cruise, but the bigger the ships get, the more crowded everything is..
Mornin' Doug! Hopefully Mexico will see they are shooting themselves in the foot with a $45 per person fee. In the other hand, if it passes and the lines cave and just pass it on the customer, it will set a bad precedent for other nations who want to double dip on cruise line income.
Businesses put themselves outta business by stupid decisions, guess countries can also...put themselves outta business...you can only go to the well so many times...I hope people sail east in the Carribean and SEND THE MESSAGE!!!
😂😂 people are still going to go to Mexico, it cost more going to the Europeans, I'm from Texas so I would have to pay to fly to Canada to take a cruise ship which i will need to pay for my cruise ship and then fly back again if I want to go to the Europeans...so I rather just ho to Mexico 🇲🇽 and pay the extra money
They can't afford to miss Mexico. It's not a new tax it's just a tax that cruise passengers were exempt from. Where would these ships go to if they missed Mexico? Many smaller poets in the Caribbean can't manage these mega ships and tendering from these ships ain't an option so yes if Trump wants to increase Mexican tariffs then cruisers will feel it in their pocket when cruising in Mexico.
Skipping Mexico is a GREAT option!
Costa Maya is Great! Theres a Pool a Bar A Dolphin , Tours, , Birds, Beach, Shop etc
@@Karategoodman13272 Been there done that. Lot's of other places to go and see that same stuff. Skip Mexico and save the extra $42 for each stop.
Sounds like you had a bad experience? That sucks lol I’ve always had a great time 😇😇
@@vivianacapacete Nope. I use my wallet to send a message.
Forget Mexico. There are so many other beautiful islands in the Caribbean.
There is another coast to the west. Mexican Riviera gets millions of visitors. Ever heard of Cabo San Lucas or Puerto Vallarta?
@@kays749gotta sail off the west coast to go there
@@RPMcMurphy1975 Yep. I do it all the time.

I’ll definitely choose future itineraries that don’t include Mexico.
Well then no Mexico for us.
Hey Doug, happy Monday. The new tax in Mexico will surely fail. There are plenty of other cruise ports to visit.
Morning Doug
Ty for your updates.Hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving wkd.Have a wonderful Monday 😊
Same to you! Good morning.
Thank you for reporting… I don't think I will be choosing a cruise that's porting in Mexico if this law actually gets passed .....Sad☹️
Best Cruise News channel on the net!!
Thank you for your support !
Welcome back! Hope yours had a great time with family!
I did! Thank you.
Where would all the ships sail to out of southern California ? Lots of unemployment in mexico is coming. To bad, love Cabo😢
No chance, you are a fool
Guess you have never been to the west coast of mexico on ship. Dumm a..!
$42 seems like a small price to pay for drinking some quality Mexican water.

The reality is cruises from the USA will just end up only going to their private islands.
I can happily live without Mexico. I usually stay onboard board at these ports. Mexico ain’t all that….
It would be interesting if passed, also very surprising.
Mexico is no friend of the USA, and your life may be taken by Cartel gangs. Just stop all Mexico visits.
And that is why they should increase the taxes.
Happy holidays Doug and ur family! ❄️☃️☃️☃️🎅🏻🎅🏻❤️❤️☃️☃️🎄❄️❤️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️

Thanks for watching Stevon.
Bored of Mexico anyways, I'm happy to go anywhere else. Not paying $42 tax plus plus plus plus plus
Thanks for the news Doug. We have a New Years cruise next year that stops in Cozumel, change our plans anyway. Thanks for the updates.
You’re welcome Brant.

Is there a date where this will be decided? Planning a cruise next year to mexico so wondering if I need to start rethinking
I enjoy cruising to Mexico but not is they raise the rates that much.
Lots to digest. Thanks for all of the news, Doug.
You’re welcome Greg.
Any word on the safety with CCL porting in Amber Cove due to Haiti unrest and prison break in Haiti? Some cruise lines were avoiding these ports

For west coast Mexican Riviera Cruises that usually have 3 Mexican ports Would they charge once or per port?
Good morning Doug! Pushback on the per person tax or fee. Cruise ship destinations to Mexico bring tourist dollars, why double dip? Thanks for the updates and have a great day.

It will pass, cause they will push that cost back to the cruiser.
Welcome back Doug. Hope you gobbled until you wobbled! :)
Carnival laughs at passengers with $25 onboard credit. Wow, what's that, two cocktails with name brand liquor? Party on with the Fun Ships.
Is it $46 per trip or per day? It is interesting that it is too much for Mexico to add but nothing for the cruise lines to add.
I was going to ask this too
🤔🤔🤔🤔Good point.

LOL $25 per person, what a joke... had something similar happen to me 18 years ago, swore I'd never cruise with them again... good call!
Good morning
Morning!
If enough tourists decide not to visit Mexico, I might move there.

In most cases I believe port charges exclude the crew. This is similar to airport departure taxes, crew is normally excluded from these taxes.
Let Mexico lose money 😂

With cheap tourists jumping off boats, using facilities, and leaving rubbish etc but spending very little, countries need to recover costs.
We Galveston cruisers are so far west we don’t get a choice in whether we go to Mexico or not. Surely, with the massive corruption that is part and parcel of Mexican culture and politics, the Senate will be “persuaded” to vote down this greedy fee.

They'll still go. Not going to Mexico will never happen.
I sincerely doubt the cruise lines will dump their Mexico itineraries over $42. There are too many ports that they would lose. The threat is a bargaining ploy to get Mexico to reduce the fee.
