Couldn't believe it. That steak was blue, Beyond rare. Hard to imagine it's amateur hour in a kitchen like that. I've gotten steaks that look like that at Chili's and Applebee's before. Wouldn't expect it at an upscale Vegas restaurant.

Twenty years ago, I took my Mom to Michael Mina's and we had the Lobster Pot pie which was wonderful. Plenty of lobster! Glad to see that they still have it, I will be going back to get another one. Before the pandemic, I was going to Las Vegas about every month and a half, which I will start again next month. I plan on doing the Derek and Catherine food tour.
I Love you both and always look forward to all your videos! I'm really glad Derek sent his filet back. That was not medium or cooked to his liking until he got it back. And it did look delicious as did the lobster pot pie! Thank you for always being so honest and real. My kind of people💗
Yes! I love Micahel Mina's! It's such a great restaurant. I haven't been by in a long while, but this totally makes me want to go! Octopus looked so flavorful! That lobster pot pie!! Omg, I need that asap. I prefer my filets rare. It's such a lean cut of beef. Other more fatty cuts I tend to lean towards mid-rare or mid-rare plus. A great video for a great restaurant!! Thanks!

I went to Michael Mina’s in 2004. It was sublime. I had the Chilean sea bass , and it still is in my taste bud memory bank as the top 5 in dishes. Derrick, I’m with you, Medium done right is the best steak, especially filet! My son orders medium rare , which isn’t bad, just a little too rare for me. Catherine as usual, wraps everything up beautifully!
That Lobster Pot Pie was the Bomb. That first steak when Derek cut into it my first and only thought was "That's a Catherine steak" Now the second one, Oh yea, that second was right there on the same level as that Lobster Pot Pie. I was like "It's on now". On another note my son was in Vegas this past week-end and took pictures with Giada De Laurentis. That lucky son of mine, lol.
That was a amazing meal!!

Yes you are correct, the first time that steak came out it was raw in the middle , the second time it was cooked perfectly (for me) !

Oh that lobster pot pie brings back memories when I had it at Michael Mina's restaurant in the MGM Grand years ago. I was so sad when it closed. Nobhill Tavern was the name and it was my favourite place to eat when I was in Las Vegas.

Yeah I'm glad that you guys sent back that's tape because that was raw and you took one bite and you sent it back and they gave you a whole new steak and that is good service

I agree that visually a perfect medium is the most visually appealing. On the rare side it looks gelatinous. On the done side it looks gray.

I order thinner cuts of steak medium rare, but always order filets medium. You were very generous calling that steak medium rare. It was definitely RARE. They did a great job fixing it though - absolutely perfect!

I think I still heard the filet still mooing when they brought it the first time, glad you sent it back for a refire. I would eat it just the way you did. When I cook steaks in the air fryer that's the way I cook them with mushrooms and horseradish of course. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!! Lobster pot pie looked delicious too!!!!
Everything looked amazing and I am glad you mentioned your disappointment with how the first steak was cooked. Even from just seeing the UA-cam video, I was thinking, "That is NOT a medium and I'd be hard pressed to choke that down." It's amazing what just a pinch more time on the grill can do to elevate flavor and texture, etc.

Yes..Was still on the hoof. Catherine does well organizing all the flavors on her fork and describing. Great video and impressed with a lobster pot pie that I've never seen in New England. Also enjoyed how we videoed some chain steak and seafood spots prior to this high end. Fun Videos AYCV

Your first steak was absolutely medium rare, which I prefer. I’m glad you sent it back. Unfortunately when a restaurant misses the mark on the basics, such as steak doneness, our motto is “we’ve been” and back to Flemings or Ruth Chris for us.
That second steak looked perfect
It’s disappointing that the steak wasn’t cooked properly. It was barely more cooked than the chicken at Genting Palace 😂
I enjoy steak med rare. Truth be told both of the steaks you had looked good to me 😊. The lobster pot pie, looked incredible! Great review, as always.

I could have been happy with the first steak but that was nowhere near medium. The second one… perfect. The meal, the company, and the experience must have been perfect too. A perfect date for you two!
It was great to see you return the steak and get it the way you wanted it. You should never settle with what they give you. The first steak's center was closer to rare than even medium rare. I choose mine to be medium also. It looked like the sauce that came in the lobster pot pie was made with the "delicacy" Tamale of the lobster.

When he came with the lobster pie, my first reaction was it’s big. When he went around the top with the knife and showed it was not big, my new initial thought was the turkey on national lampoons Christmas vacation 🤣🤣🤣🤣

That first steak looked to be cooked rare. The center looked cool. I enjoy a true Med-Rare . Some chefs do tend to under cook meats at fine dining restaurants . The Lobster Pot Pie looked amazing , that would be my jam.

the first steak did look very rare. Pinked but cooked is fine. And I think you nailed it: these steak houses call 'pink but cooked' medium. I don't like 'gray all the way through', but do like 'pink but cooked'. I'm even ok with a certain amount of rare, but your first steak looked like it was mostly raw...

You were right sending that steak back i thought the same it was pretty rare we used to have a steakhouse here in new zealand and it it was a fine balancing act getting some of the requests right some steaks seem to keep cooking faster even when it was off the grill anyway keep up the good work.
