You know those busy days when you’ve got a long list of errands to run? Get the oil changed, send off the package for Grandma’s birthday, pay a fine at the library, pick up clarinet reeds for the middle schooler, buy a dress shirt for Hubby, get the groceries for the week… In my head I can hear Gail, “You went shopping on the 5th and the 5th and the 5th and the 5th and the 5th and the 5th…”

Same. I'm too lazy to move stuff. I need nothing on the floors, like floor lamps, baskets, plants.... Things I need to move. No knick knacks on shelves. Most of my furniture goes right down to the floor for no gaps where Is need to dust. I need to zip in and out on one or two passes with a wet rag on a reusable Swiffer end. No sir, no ma'am. Too lazy.

Wendy is a a grade a shopaholic. She spends because it makes her feel better. It's like an addiction. It is heartbreaking to know that this lady ended up in a Retirement Home and even they are expensive. My Uncle had to put my mother in one and it broke his heart. He didn't have a choice. She ended up blind, lost a leg to diabetes and had alzheimers.

    I love this show.
My mother never had a grip of her finances and when she became sick in alzheimers disease, i took over her finances, and it was chocking. She had been living on borrowed money prob her whole adult life. She had 40k in consumer debt and she owned nothing of value, not even a car.
1,5 years later, i have paid off all her loans but one, and the last one she will be paying until she passes away because there is no more extra money to pay anything after she is 66 years old.
She now lives in a smaller apartment, in the middle of the city; has a view of the water and a small weekly budget, food and entertainment with walks and dogs 5 days a week.
We have a closer relationship than ever and i’m so grateful for this.

I have watched many of Gail's videos, read her book, watched literally 100s maybe 1000s of videos on debt and personal finance and have and read north of 100 books on this subject. It's a hobby. I watched this video several times I really like this couple. A lot of people know admit they need to change but don't want to take the steps necessary. Not this couple they stepped right in and made the most of it. Their total consumer debt load was about 40% of their total gross income. Not good but not as awful as ours which was about 80% of our annual household income. It took us a lot longer than the projected 18 month's Gail laid out for them but we did it. I wish this couple well I realize this was filmed years ago. It really comes down to being ready. If you are ready you are ready, if you are not ready, you will be offended.

My husband and I made about $75k - $85k between our two salaries and we have a 4,250 sqft 5 bdrm home that we've paid down by 1/8th, two condos and no consumer debt (not even vehicles). It's not how much money you make. It's how you use it. Good for them for asking for help though - this type of show invites so much judgement and criticism when they took the right steps to fix it. Hi peekaboo.. I had the exact same reaction when I saw her saying she was going to get rid of the Crock-Pot that she didn't use it. I don't know what I would do without mine. I actually have two. One small one and one big enough to do larger batches of like soups and stews. And I am a one person household. LOL. Glad to have the big one in order to do an entire chicken at one time. But I did buy the bigger one at a thrift store for $6.99.

The crock pot needed to go to someone who would use it. Too many of us buy things because we will use it "some day." "Some day" never comes. Or, if it does, it's once in 5 years. My crock pot owning friend would gladly loan me hers for that one use. Otherwise, it's not only a space taker and/or an item that needs to be periodically cleaned, it is an indictment against our cooking. A silent judge, if you will. Reminding us of failure to cook for our families. I know that sounds weird, but it's true. We are shamed by the evidence of our unrealized goals: the size 4 outfits, the free weights, the paint supplies. Chuck them all! Someone else will certainly appreciate them.

I can't get over the nonchalant attitude that so many people have when it comes to spending money. Like, no thinking twice about whether they actually need the item or can realistically afford it (and most, it seems, cannot without using credit). Some people just seem to have this mindset that "there will always be more money" or "I'll find the money somewhere/somehow to pay for this item". Is it any wonder a show like TDDUP exists in the first place? There's no end to the number of reckless spenders. Nobody seems willing to save for anything anymore. It's all about 'instant gratification' - just use a credit card or BNPL if you want something you don't have the money for. I don't feel at all sorry for these people for spending themselves into Oblivion. Then, they feel sorry for themselves when they realize they have no choice but to consolidate their debts or worse, file bankruptcy. Stupid.

It is hard to find a tear for someone that makes this amount of money. Just because you have a well-paying job doesn't make you smart. My husband and I make poverty wages and live well and find happiness in simple ways and we also have a good time in inexpensive ways.

    • @SpecialKel66

Do you think that makes you a better person? It's extremely uncharitable of you to judge someone for making mistakes just because they make more than you. Not everyone has had the experience or the proper education in how to handle finances. I know many people who got their first credit card when they were teenagers and because they had no context and no education, they just went wild and ran up the card and then realized it isn't so easy to pay it back once interest starts to accrue. Save your judgement for your own flaws and when you're counting your blessings, don't detract from someone else's.

And everything gets stolen by employees and if you say anything they tell the alcoholic owner you’re going to sue. I worked in the small cute salon at a lovely new clean building in Colorado Springs. My clients told me they had nice towels stolen. It didn’t matter if their name was on the towels. Gone. I had my equipment stolen and hair cutting capes stolen. I needed those to work!
I think employees are thieves even in the posh places.
