So many of the couples on this show own homes in the Toronto area in the mid/late 2000s. Even with bad spending habits, many of them are probably millionaires right now just due to the rise in house prices.
So so much stuff in that house. I bet with a yard sale they could make thousands with those excess toys and clothes that are just piled up in the corners.
Denial is strong, and it allows us to continue on our paths, good or bad. It kept them from looking at the truth. If you live above your means, something has to give at some time.
I guess my ex-husband was lucky in that regard that I was not a spender neither one of us was he used to say we need some more stuff on the walls or more decor now that I have been divorced 21 years I continue to live this way shopping at thrift stores and garage sales I don't like to pay full retail if I don't have to
It was precisely that kind of silly demand from viewers and the network that caused Gail to shut down production of "Princess," her own show, and to refuse to ever do tv again. TDDUP was in production from 2005 to 2009, with "Princess" in production from 2010 to 2012. None of them "deserve" to get anything, not when they got themselves into the messes in the first place. It was the fact that she was willing to be so generous with the first $5,000 that caused such greed to soon overtake the show.
She’s lonely? He does the chores while she’s at work, so she’s home with the kids at night. Do something with your kids! My husband and I worked opposite like this when our kids were little. We always found things that were free or low cost to do. It is important to make time as a couple, I’m sure they don’t work 7 days a week
It kills me when I hear people in their 30s say that THEY ALWAYS WANTED something or another…so that’s why they bought it….well, I’m 73 worked since I’ve been 13 and I always wanted a pink Cadillac….haven’t gotten it yet…..maybe I could be buried in one…lol
For all of you saying negative comments on him cutting up the credit cards think twice. It's obviously a good move. They need to pay them off. They no longer have the temptation to use them.
I wouldnt consider an unexpected vows renewal as romantic. Instead of putting effort he took an easy way out and reminded her she promissed to be with him. Lol.
Gayle was way to east on wifey. She should have had to sell some of her clothes, since he had to sell his bike. He makes 20k more. Wifey was treated immaturely as she behaved immaturely.

@@debbieframpton3857 Totally agree! Women must have some type of education past high school... A skill of some sort. All humans must have their own bank account in order to establish own financial history. (I know a very nice young man, took care of his wife. Joint accounts. When he deployed to Iraq, his spouse cleaned out the account and then divorced him.) Everyone needs to be able to be independent. I am so sorry for your experience.
I would cut the cards up too. You’re sharing money and don’t haven’t to put up with endless unnecessary spending and making you poor. She should have been glad he was helping her with a bad habit. They also need to teach budgeting in schools.
Did you miss the part where he spent 10’s of thousands on a motorcycle? He has no right to be upset by her small cumulative purchases when he definitely makes large indulgent purchases himself.
He had no right to cut up her cards without having a discussion. He spends money too and has no right to act as if he's any better at finances than she is.
she spends money waxing??? yoy have to ger hairy to even wax at all...what a waste...either shave or go all the way and do legit laser removal and get it over with...
If my partner cut up my credit cards I’d go get them reissued, then go on a huge shopping spree, and then divorce his ass and stick him with half the debt

I totally agree. When our kids were born I took a shift opposite my husband so that we wouldn't need babysitters. I sometimes felt like a single mother at night when he was at work. So...we joined Community Center--Parks and recreation. There is so much to do at these places. Also had them in after school programs that were inexpensive. We went swimming about 4x a week, even in the winter. Also, we had parents of our kid's friends over a lot. No reason to be lonely.
Imagine working regular jobs that pay less than 60 grand and are able to buy a house in Toronto. Crazy how time has changed
My response to your comment a big old housing bubble!
And transit operators can make 6 figures there lol. Our Canadian housing market is just stupid.
4:39 I love how Gail just casually disses Andrew "... cause he's a controlling Napoleon" like she's ordering coffee or something lol.
him complaining about her spending then him buying a bike annoys me so much
Me too a bully
New bike at that not worth it be 60% less in 3 years
Omg... this is one of the most beautiful episodes. Such a lovely couple.
They are so sweet -I’m so glad they were able to get through this
It’s sweet that he applied to do the show. People do things out of fear and anger but he did the work to make things better with his wife.
She spends because she's depressed, lonely and sad. It fills a void in her life. Some of the things she bought are outrageous.
He bought 12,000 motorcycle that only he used and he cut her cards are you serious
Very nice couple. Gail was good to them and they knew it.

Absolutely whoever bought a house in the 2000s in Toronto and Toronto GTA are millionaires now they have huge equity
That's only if they sold at the right time and didn't continue to mess up their money...
Oh my... what a lovely couple! They truly love each other.
Cutting her cards up like she is a child is unacceptable. An adult conversation is the way to address issues. The husband is the big spender
I’m rooting for these two! Spectacular teamwork!!
Me in 2023 looking at their 225k house in Torontov DT 😂 that one is probably worth 2M now...they even have a backyard.

Sweet couple but I wouldn't have put up with that disrespect. Like if a man cut off my credit cards it would have been a wrap.
I am so happy that it went so well. Esp the relationship. Good work don't forget your kids in your life
The clothes! Ridiculous.🙀
Why do people.put consumer debt on a second mortgage...i think thats kinda insane
The idea is that the interest rate is significantly lower on a secured loan like a second mortgage. Ideally, it will be easier to pay off that way.
@@arh1234,
If they pay it off and don't run up more credit card debt

credit cards can be your best friend or your worst enemy if you got a spending problem never apply for one.
100 % im an impulse Buyer so i have a strict budget for fun buying and i dont have a credit card😂
I would love her show to come back with the current economy
Nice couple hope they are doing well

Such a lovely couple! I wish them all the best.
That was ridiculous cute and a good man’s dream.
This couple should get more than $5000 ❤😊
They did if you think about it. She gave them $300 to fix up the basement, plus a massage and dinner.

I see that alot of these couples spend alot of money im the Drug Stores.what's so big in that stores.
Cosmetics and beauty products.
Cigarettes!
I've wondered that too

I hear you. I thought about that. I wonder if it was done as a little bit of payback for the card-cutting disrespect.
Why are you feeling insecure
Me watching all these episodes knowing that 50 to 18 years later their house have quadrupled in value and they would easily be out of debt anyways lol
IF the homes were not foreclosed on.
I would leave a man who spends as much as this man does and then has the gall to forcefully cut up my cards to control me. That is alarming.
He probably wanted her to leave so he wouldn't be responsible for her anymore...smh
These are spoiled children who don't want to grow up. They just want more toys.
Thanks for your $0.02. 🙄

"Not a patch on what you spent on the bike". The clothes wouldn't sell for enough to make even a small dent in their debt.
