Hi Alistair jack here originally from Co Tyrone but know in Australia since 1988, just bought an 83 XJ yesterday and picking it up tomorrow with the intention of getting it up and running again, paint is original and in good condition, was the first bike i bought when i came to Australia
Good man Jack, that's two good decisions you've made, leaving here and buying an XJ. You'll be able to enjoy it in warmer conditions than you would here. We're currently getting our traditional July weather. It rains at some point every day and this is meant to be our summer! I'm half Tyrone myself, mother was from Killeter. Enjoy your XJ!
Another great vid Alistair! Quite an eclectic collection you have there. Up until the Honda, I've been firmly in the BMW camp with a '76 R90s, an '83 R100RT and a 16 1200RT. I recall sitting on the first CBX back in 78/79 until the dealer kicked me out....could never have afforded one back then, so ended up with a Honda CX500. I've always respected the XJ900, so good to see you with yours. Cheers, Chris
Hi Chris. My first CBX experience was at the 78 I.O.M. TT . I was there an my new Honda CJ250T( my first road bike ) and the travelling marshals had three CBX's supplied by Honda UK by way of an introduction to the public. I was seventeen at the time and I was completely blown away. Like yourself there was no way that I could have afforded one on an apprentice mechanic's wage. I did manage to get my first one in 83. It was a red 81 Z model which is actually still in existence in a car dealership in County Antrim. The XJ was my late father's bike which he bought new in 89. They're a great bike but just not as popular as the FJ's.
Thank you very much for your vids on the XJ900F Alistair. I have seen them all except part one - I can’t find it anywhere. Even typing it in on UA-cam doesn’t bring it up? Well done.
Terry, thanks for watching and subscribing. If you go onto my channel then, under playlists find the XJ900 one, it's the first video on the list. For some reason I didn't call it Part One! The Ol' XJ isn't getting much use at the moment. It's meant to be my winter bike but I don't like getting it dirty! What am I like!!
Did you move house from the early CBX video or a garage refurbishment looks like more room as now obviously more bikes ☘️ from Belfast 👍 keep all the bikes tip top 🎩 only way 👍👍 just done oil change on my k6gsxr before winter ❄️❄️
Dear sir, i have since 2 years a similar bike (xj900f 1988) and when pulling away, there's a 'clunck'in the final drive (i think) Maybe something has loosened itself?
Hi Arie, it's difficult to say without seeing the bike but I think that it might be wear in the driveshaft. There are two joints in the shaft either of which could be worn. Also it might be a good idea to drain the gear oil from the differential to see if it is badly contaminated or, worse still, there are any pieces of metal in there. Sorry I can't be more specific.
@@AlistairCampbell1047cc Thanks, the oil was clear, renewed it anyway.. Just have to take it apart to see what's wrong. Do final drive problem happen more often? It has ran 97.000 km's..

The bigger garage is at my father's house just round the corner from me. I'll be doing some routine maintenance soon myself.
La moto Yamaha XJ900 Elle peut démarrer sans que la batterie soit en place ?
