Good video Jim. I love putting up mink too. U are right about people not putting in a proper inspection window. Also there is a tendency to pull the tail too long. Take care. Hope you don’t dry your skunk pelts in the bathroom! 😂
Caught my second ever mink the other day. Watched your video and headed out to the skinning shed. Everything worked out well. I did have to remove the saddle as there was so much fat on this big male mink. SW Ontario.
Great tip on the pins Jim ha ha I’ll get a piece of styrofoam some day , didn’t get a mink this year usually get a couple at least, always enjoyed putting them up, thanks for sharing
From one who has spent time on the mink table to another. Two thumbs up....and remember that a grader has to do it 4 times when handling the pelts through the process. Being an Entomologist I just deal with 6 legs and 8 legged and leave the creepy the other stuff to the smash and bash zoo's guys.
is it Jim? if so hey Jim great demo; I used to work at a mink ranch before they started drying fur side out. The things we used to do different are, when boarding aline the nose hold on the tail and with the other hand make a fist and roll back to the tail, ( object being is to pull most hair to the back and towards the window) pleat the bottom and then the tail, again pushing toward the window, we place Popsicle sticks in the front legs so when we pull them out no skin on skin contact(dry better) and last just before shipping we would hold the pelt by the ears, belly side up and slap on a table twice to fluff up the back hair, did it survive the shipping? don't know but made the pelt look good before shipping (not matted down)
So interesting that you leave flesh on mink a no-no in northern Alberta lots of fat under the saddle In my section. Good to see price is finally starting to rise
different sections of mink are handled a little different a western type mink has a heavey saddle with a lot of fat that needs to be scraped a northern type has very fine leather and little fat so better to leave the saddle on. Central type mink same deal you have to take the saddle off.
I had the pleasure of spending a few days at Fur Harvesters auction house when we delivered the furs from the Maritimes and I seen a lot of furs that being graded from all over north America and was shocked on how many furs were poorly dun up . some of them im surprised was not classed NO VALUE , needless to say some was . Hope this video is seen by at least 1 trapper that will help them be a better fur handler . I even seen beaver that was boarded with 7 nails , Picture that in your mind .
Disgusting. Nobody has any good enough reason to be doing this for sport, for fur and many don’t need to do this for food - its disgusting. Not that anyone in this feed gives a damn. The word for the worm, is parasite Dracunculus medinensis or GWD. What used to be considered normal was unknown at the time to be unethical unless you were one of the very few that had empathy for these innocent animals. Im disappointed. These people are not using the fur, the meat to survive if they are ‘using it’ its not to survive in the sense that ‘they have no other options’ … this lacks empathy and education and skill sets outside of flaying animals.

I think that there was a Directors decision on the last of the clip to go in. Wonder how many dinner that is going to cost Jim?

I like that table with the lift up top to hold the feet. Sometime a video on it would be great. Thanks for sharing
Great tip when pinning the legs, will be doing that on my next mink. Tried it with a weasel- game changer!

What are your feelings as far as wrapping your furs in newsprint before bagging them and freezing them. Stay safe God bless 🇨🇦

How did I end up here from watching Joseph carter to this. Poor minks
So do u use marten boards for mink?
No. I use mink boards for marten, males on male boards, females on female boards.

You're right. No one gives a damn about your comment.
