I’ve heard enough national anthems in my time away that I’m pretty blah about all of them. But anyway, this is still an improvement on God Save the Queen (which is even more cringe-inspiring since it became God Save The King).
At the start of every school assembly in every school I’ve been in we’ve had to sing this. It just makes me prouder to be an Aussie then I already am, if that’s even possible.
I love the pure optimism and positivity of this anthem and the fact that all its claims ring true. There's no war this, bombs that, struggle against oppressors, etc. All is swept clean and only the brightness of what Aussies, native or new, make of their downright beautiful land is celebrated -- a wonderful and deserved spirit of promise! I visited in 2009 and was in Sydney harbor on one of their boats for Australia Day-- everyone was so friendly and jubilant; just wonderful.

Although I am English, and live on the other side of the world, Australia is the country I know more than any other and have travelled in more than any other. There is so much to see and do there and it really does abound in nature’s gifts. Indeed, I had made 10 trips to Australia and travelled 3 and a half years there before I had even discovered and visited my favourite places, places that few Australians, let alone outsiders, had even heard of!

We usually sing this at primary school at the whole school parade. It all to thank you, my teacher, who teaching me sign language at school, even everyone joins in. 😭
I went to two primary schools as a kid, the first one we had to go to assembly every Wednesday so we only had to sing first verse, but when I moved we rarely had assembly's which meant when we did they'd be a lot longer, so we'd sing 2nd verse as well
I'm not an Australian (yet) but I love this anthem. How can people not like it? Easy to memorise, simple, good tune, welcoming to outsiders... why do some Australians want to change it?
Comparitively to other english language or even other anthems it's a mouthful with a very regular tune. Hear Indias, Pakistans, Israel, Americas, short sweet and melodic. I like the meaning but it could simply be a national song.
some phrases especially "we are young and free" were changed because the first nations people in australia are the worlds oldest existing civilisation so it was deemed inappropriate to refer to the country as new being again much older being "one and free" now.
The UK is not the motherland and for sure not a british colony. The people in britain feel more scottish or welsh than british. Britain is for nobody a motherland.
As a Canadian I think this is the first time I heard the whole song, I like it, it's is like Australia it's unique. with that said I wish all Australians a good one eh.
Aussies in the comments: "I remember hearing this once a week in school assemblies!" Me, an American: "We... heard the US national anthem every day at school... paired with being pressured into saying the Pledge of Allegiance... from the ages of 5 to 18..."
I’m an American, and the first time I heard this was when I was visiting Brisbane and attended a rugby game. The Aussies’ passion and patriotism when they sang this song was utterly inspiring. They knew my friends and I were Americans, but they welcomed us into the festivities like we were old friends. Undoubtedly, it’ll be the memory that sticks with me the longest. Much love from the USA! 🇺🇸🇦🇺
I remember this anthem sung before every match between India and Australia. Really amazing anthem... fills the heart with love and respect for the country. I am an Indian btw.... Hope to hear this again in another heart Stopping Test Series
Canadian here. I had a friend at the beginning of high school (early 80s) who'd spent a few years in Australia, and he was the one who told me the national anthem of the country was Advance Australia Fair, and IIRC, sang the first verse. Made quite an impression. I've always considered Australia as sort of the flip side of Canada; sort of like our opposite pole. Someone on UA-cam once characterized Canada as "Popsicle Australia", and I was pleased to be considered so. Advance, Australia fair. :)
I'm Aussie and I have had the joy and privilege of working in Canada. I was, and still am, so deeply moved by the friendly; welcoming attitude, and the polite, friendly and unfailing hospitality of Canadians. It is such a beautiful country, and I still cannot believe the fresh water everywhere! I studied geography, and we geographers always compare Aus with Canada - we share so many characteristics. You're right to say that Australia is the hot version of Canada (rather than Canada being the cold version of Australia!). I just adore Canada and Canadians. Thank you for being you. We (and me, too) stand on guard for thee! Vive le Canada!
As an Aussie I can say that this anthem is fricking unforgettable because every Monday at school, we have an assembly and we sing the anthem and everyone is just standing there like statues lmao
@Yeetimus Prime And are you gonna call every one who likes this song strange because they like something? If I don't like what you like personally, I wouldn't call you strange.

Yep- I think they might have thought it was to long, but my friend has a brother and at that school they learn four verses
Fuzzily Sophii I went to four different schools and I don’t remember ever having to sing anything but the first half
I went to two primary schools as a kid, the first one we had to go to assembly every Wednesday so we only had to sing first verse, but when I moved we rarely had assembly's which meant when we did they'd be a lot longer, so we'd sing 2nd verse as well
@@-cheese-.. same i have assembly every wednesday

I like the meaning but it could simply be a national song.
some phrases especially "we are young and free" were changed because the first nations people in australia are the worlds oldest existing civilisation so it was deemed inappropriate to refer to the country as new being again much older being "one and free" now.
it gets boring after a while

Respect from your mother nation (UK) to Australia 🇬🇧🇦🇺
Thank you god bless you and your nation in uk 🇦🇺🤝🇬🇧
The UK is not the motherland and for sure not a british colony. The people in britain feel more scottish or welsh than british. Britain is for nobody a motherland.

Aussies in the comments: "I remember hearing this once a week in school assemblies!"
Me, an American: "We... heard the US national anthem every day at school... paired with being pressured into saying the Pledge of Allegiance... from the ages of 5 to 18..."
i only know the start of it because of memes

I’m an American, and the first time I heard this was when I was visiting Brisbane and attended a rugby game. The Aussies’ passion and patriotism when they sang this song was utterly inspiring. They knew my friends and I were Americans, but they welcomed us into the festivities like we were old friends. Undoubtedly, it’ll be the memory that sticks with me the longest.
Much love from the USA! 🇺🇸🇦🇺
Because we Aussies are a loving and accepting bunch. We are a good people.
I remember this anthem sung before every match between India and Australia. Really amazing anthem... fills the heart with love and respect for the country.
I am an Indian btw.... Hope to hear this again in another heart Stopping Test Series

The reason i can sing along to this more fluently than my first language is thanks to primary school national anthems
Spent a month in Australia with your guys army, I fell head over heels for the country and the people. I can’t wait to get over there and visit again.
