i inherited an aspidistra plant from my mother and she got it from her mother-in-law, who got it as a wedding present. It is in its original shaker pot. We can trace it back to just over 100 years but it probably goes back for much longer as it was mature when my grandmother got it. I water it every month to six weeks. When it was in a darker room it lost its leaves regularly sometimes without replacing them however i have since moved it to the living room beside the tv and it just thrives there. It needed the company and stimulation. I don't do any maintenance to it although I think my mother topped up or changed the soil once. Just love this plant.
I just stumbled onto your channel while searching for cast iron plants and you popped up first. Thanks for this. By the way, you have the coolest speaking voice I've heard in such a long time! I hope that doesn't sound weird. I mean it in the best way lol. Anywho. Keep growing! I'm rooting for you!
I had such a hard rime finding one of these until I looked online, was thrilled to find them. My Grandma had these when I was a kid. I think they were more popular back in the "old days" lol i just love them. I have one of the spotted ones, looks like paint splatter on it ;)
Yes I definitely think the were more popular in the Old Days! 2 generations ago and i think they were popular in Victorian era hence the name ballroom plant. They seem to be making a come back! I just got one, bcs it sounded like something I could keep alive 🙈
Cool plant! Not one in our collection, though! I have found the hardiest plants we have are probably the Devil's Ivy. I have so much of it all over our apartment as it propagates so easily. We have some that are literally just growing in water. While others are almost dry in soil. They are incredibly forgiving vines!!! The next easiest we have are the peace lilies. They droop when they need water but don't suffer from it. They just bounce back when they get a tub soak overnight. They're my easiest!!
Yesss devil's ivy is easily one of my fave easy plants! And one of the only plant's I have more than one of throughout my flat because they're so tolerant!
Yes it would be perfect! I have't got any succulent or cacti videos because I haven't had much success growing them so I don't want to mislead anyone 😅
I take care of many of these and find it pretty hard I can never figure out what they want but its possible it may be the water The water at the hotel i work might have way to many chemicals Once the leaves get droopy do they ever come back? They live in Kauai so they get lots of humidity and they also have issues with what i call barnical bug that attaches to the underneith side which if i scrub i can remove it and the leaves dont seem to mind that.
Mine is well over 100 years old as it has been passed from generation to generation. Now it's up to me and it's not doing well anymore. I have 4 leaves and no new shoots in at least 2 years. I water it from the bottom pan, not in the soil. What should I do to perk it up?
Oh wow that's amazing that it's so old! My first thought is maybe you're not giving enough water. Do you keep refilling the bottom pan until it no longer sucks up the liquid? If not, it may not be fully quenched each time so it could be perpetually thirsty
In English literature, this plant seems to be almost the national houseplant. George Orwell even entitled a novel, Keep the Aspidistra Flying. I don't know why I can't find one locally here in Wisconsin, USA.
Really great content👌 I just bought one 10 days ago, when i saw it i felt like this is the one 😍 And after your video i loved it even more. But my plant startedd to have some yellow to brown edges.. Im not sure why..☹️ I juat subscribe to your channel and i will certainly look for beautiful easy to grow plants from your video's to buy them. Thanks
I just discovered your channel, absolutely love it! 😊 I have two plants for about two months now, each one is in a different room and the leaves are becoming yellow. I honestly don't know what to do. They're not infected, no direct sun light, I tried watering them in different ways ... I have no idea. Do you? 😢
Hey! Thanks and welcome! Be sure to subscribe for more tips and tricks! I'd love to hear more about your plants. Are they both cast iron plants? Shoot me a message on IG with pics and I can hopefully help better!
I'm trying to find a plant that is non toxic to dogs and would live and not die in my dark room that has no windows. But I'm in there for maybe 3 to 5 hours of the day so the light would come on (it's not a plant light it's an incandescent light.) Would this plant be able to live in the room???
Hmmm I'd say your best bet would be a cast iron plant yeah. But it still does need some light. You could always get a grow light for that room because normal home lights will not give the plant what it needs
Just subscribed to your channel! This is my first plant! I just got It online. How do I know if I need to repot it? some of the roots(?) are coming out of the top.
Ooh super exciting! Does the pot look like it's proportional to the plant? You could always pot it in the same size but a bit deeper in the pot? Also welcome to the good growing family!
I’ve been trying to buy non-toxic plants so my cats won’t die.... but the problem is - they freaking eat them! So now I’m buying mildly toxic plants and my cats just don’t get close to them lol
Wow I found her speech incredibly easy to listen to maybe cause I live in Kauai and we all talk in a pretty chill manner. Lots of other choices on here to listen to, easy to find someone else. Aloha
This was the plant that started my love for houseplants, still a favourite! Great video thank you.
Yes they're super great plants! Glad you enjoyed :)

Ah thanks! Yeah my accent is pretty odd... bit american, bit british! So glad I could help with your plant
I agree... she's excellent. Speaks well
The leaves of your Aspidistra look so healthy, happy and gorgeous!
Thanks!! Super excited its growing 6 more at the moment too 🙌

Yeah I haven't really seen any in many shops.. more just online! I love mine, super underrated plants! Glad you found one!
Very hard to find! Even the garden shops had no clue what it was

I just bought one of these and love it. I like low maintenance plants but sometimes I want something else that’s not a succulent like a snake plant.
Agreed! Love a low maintenance foliage plant!
Very beautiful sharing
Beautiful decorative plants
Cast iron plant
Good described 😀
Thank you!
Ours sitting in the dark corner of our bedroom and thriving.

Ooo this sounds like a good plant for my dark corner 🔥✨✨✨🌱,
Idk if you've done one on euphorbia plants really into succulents and cacti at the moment
Yes it would be perfect! I have't got any succulent or cacti videos because I haven't had much success growing them so I don't want to mislead anyone 😅
I have a friend that has hers in about 20 lumens of light and they still look great. awesome plant.
Yeah they are so freaking tolerant! It's great!
what a cool plant!! 😍
Yeah they're awesome!
My cast iron plant literally has not grown since I got it almost 2 years ago.
Yeah they are super slow growers especially in lower light. If you want them to grow faster, maybe keep it in bright indirect
I take care of many of these and find it pretty hard
I can never figure out what they want but its possible it may be the water

In Japan its leaves are cut into to many pieces for separating many sushi.
woah what a fun fact! Thanks!
Thank you 🙏🏾🪴🫶🏾

it's such an amazing one 🪴 I'm surprised you can't find one either!
Great Coverage!!!
Thanks
Glad i found this video. My poor cast iron i think is over watered. Ugh. Couple leaves have turned yellow. Should i prune those?
Thanks a lot ,very nice and enough video 💜
Thanks!
What soil do they need?
“The people who name plants” 😂😂 . Who does get to name the anyways?!🤣 Great video. I was searching for ballroom plant and found yours.

Thanks! The brown tips could be a watering issue or humidity. Or it could be adjusting to it's new home. Good luck!
My cast iron has some flowers. I thought it was mushroom.
ooh that's super exciting!
I've heard they do flower sometimes. I'd be so happy if mine does :)

@@GoodGrowing thank you! Oh ok - yeah maybe I’ll put it in a taller one. Love your channel.
Find someone who looks at you like she looks at this plant.
With your placememt , how often do you water yours?
Only when it dries up all the way
Beautiful plant
Thanks!
Could you grow this plant out of a aquarium?
Can I transfer my cast iron plant from soil to leca?
Yeah I don't see why not. I've not tried it myself though. It may take some adjusting, so be careful and patient!
My son loves this plant so much, but it gets yellow and we lose many plant
Hmmm yellowing is usually a sign of overwatering... how often are you watering yours?
the plants are flowering?pls..reply.
Mines dying, I have no idea why :/
Stop shaking it! Lol

@@quanzellea oh yes! Its beautiful. I need to let it too
Is the cast iron plant less demanding than a zz?
I'd say definitely!
♡
Oh you blah blah-blah. Water from a tap and drawl . Here the world is listening to you. Try to develop a lecturer speech or keep silent..
Shame on you. Be nice.
