Recently discovered your channel and subscribed. I really appreciate your work and sharing your videos, insights & tutorials I have learned so much from your works. My FTM 400, HRI-200, FT1Ds have been collecting dust in my Shack for a couple of years due 2 Strokes & other medical issues. Now I am looking to clear the dust away and start getting active on YSF Nodes possibly set up a YSF repeater and/or room. I plan to binge watch your videos you have really motivated me thanks, de AA4SH
Thanks for the Info Ian I'm currently changing my MMDVM Gateway from a Pi-Star based system to a Wires-X Gateway as that seems to be the most active mode here in Ireland,
Is this doable? Once you have your Room configured, can you simply disconnect the radio from the HRI-200 so your room is available via WIresX w/o the local RF connectivity?
Hello Ian, I'm new to the hobby having just passed the Foundation Exam. I would like to learn more about C4FM and WIRES-X so intend to watch all of your videos which I find very informative. Could you maybe answer a query for me? If I were to purchase a 'donor' radio (say an FTM-300DE) and connect it to the internet via a HRI-200 and my computer, then use something like a handheld FT3D to connect to the FTM-300DE, would the FTM-300DE need connecting to an antenna? I am thinking it wouldn't because I would be transmitting from the FT3D via the FTM-300DE/HRI-200/Computer/Internet. Am I correct? I'm in Chorley so in the NWFG area. Thanks. Paul. M7PTH.
I have a ftm100dr into the hri 200 and am using my ft5dr handheld to get into wires x. My external antenna should be plugged into the ftm100dr correct? My handheld should be hitting my antenna plugged into the "donor" radio right?
Hi again Ian just a quick question, when in Transceiver settings I am only using Voice CH and Preset Search CH is off, why does the B band on my FTM300D make noise as well when I PTT? I can see it is in FM mode instead of DN but is there a way to remedy this or is it just normal to turn off the volume on B band?
What the display says is irrelevant to be honest as it should be in HRI mode. There is no B band as such in this case. Just turn off the volume. It isn't needed at all
@@NorthWestFusionGroup So it's normal for it to behave that way? If it is then great because I was starting to think what I did wrong when setting it up 😅
Hi everone, just a question I have the FTM400 Connected to my PC and use it as a hotspot for my FT3D. But I have the 400 connected to an external antenna and the question is can I do this.
Currently, the answer to this is no. You could put it on a dummy load so that you could use it around the house but it cannot be used in such a way that could allow other amateurs to use it.
Hi, so basically the radio that's attached to the HRI-200 in this way means I can't transmit using that radio, I would have to use another c4fm capable radio in order to transmit? Should I attach a dummy load as well in this case? 😁
Absolutely correct. As for a dummy load, that depends where you are in the world. In the UK, it would need to be on a dummy load or apply for a NoV to run a gateway. The radio will produce RF when connected to a HRI-200, the output of which is set in the transceiver section of WIRES-X
@@NorthWestFusionGroup I see. I just wanted to double check before trying to setup in this manner. I only have the HRI-200 that recently arrived hence this is the only way I can set it up. Thank you for the very informative videos and appreciate your reply. Subbed and looking forward to future videos.
Hi: I'm going to be purchasing the FTM-200 and I was wondering, when using the radio is in HRI mode, with the SCU--40 or 58 wires x connecting kit, can I access the various wires x rooms using the microphone or do I have to pick a room from the list in the software on my PC to connect. I'm a blind ham and I like the idea of dtmf commands to access a room especially on a repeater or PDN set up using 2 radios. I'm hoping that using 1 radio in HRI mode, instead of trying to catch a room through the large scrolling list, I can just enter the room of my choice using dtmf commands on the mic. Thanks: Michael DE VO1AX
Hi Michael. This can sort of be done using 2 radios. One is set up in Portable HRI Access mode. This then works like any other gateway. You would 'connect' to it from another Fusion capable radio by pressing the DX button. Then, a long press of the # button on the mic and the radio will beep. Enter the room number you want then a short press of the # button. The radio will beep again. If you connection is successful, you will get the 3 tone confirmation beep. I hope this helps. Ian
Oh wait, so with the HRI-200, I can't access wiresX without another radio? But with the SCU-40, I can access wiresX from the radio without a second radio, right?
Nice, concise info on connecting an HRI-200. Would love to see a deep-dive into the WiresX software options next!
I'm not promising Lee but I will think on it :)
Brilliant video Ian first class got my HRI200 up and running in no time. Thank you very much.
Glad it helped
Great explanation. I think of Yaesu like Apple. Proprietary, costly but easy to use
Excellent video. I'm sure people will find it very helpful. Keep up the good work.

Great tutorial. Wish I were there right now as it is 20 degrees F in Nashville.
Thank you Ian an excellent introduction to the HRI-200
Very good, nice video, Ports Open! yay! good job mate, well done!

Excellent. Good luck!
Well dead good. I like my HRI200s. I may even have a go at building a radioless node with one at some point. 73s
