    I love my P365. No, I really love my P365 so I wasn't exactly itching to get my hands on the SAS version because I'm extremely happy with my P365. That being said, I went to the Sig Sauer Academy and got my hands on the P365 SAS. Let's just say, this sighting system is different. Really different.

    IMO, the Sig Instructor's advice was key...focus on target. I would add "point shoot" (Applegate style) and let sight peripheral flash confirm. This will be alien to most "front sight focus" shooters.

    • @epultimast
      @epultimast 4 роки тому +19

      More and more people realise that it is just more natural to use target focus, especially when it comes to real world application. But front sight focus shooting works so well for precise shooting on the range that many people just stick to it. It’s probably best to be able to do both.

    • @chasemer6
      @chasemer6 4 роки тому +14

      epultimast better? Depends on your objective IMO. If the goal is accuracy, FSF is probably best. But in a real life gun battle I can guarantee you that most people will threat focus.

    • @epultimast
      @epultimast 4 роки тому +9

      @@chasemer6 that’s what I was trying to say. People practice day in and day out FSF on the range and then will be unpleasantly surprised in a real life gun battle when they don’t find their sights.

      @@epultimast never been in a gunfight myself but I've made it a point to only pay for classes from people who have and I've heard one say that you're likely to "point shoot". But I've heard others say that they were always able to find their sights first. It probably depends how well you can handle stress as well as how often you train/practice.

      Thank you. I was scrolling to see if someone explained that instruction. My instructor chewed my ass for "peaking at the target" when my groupings were off. I was baffled to hear the opposite because the way I was taught gives me quarter-sized groupings, but only when I am a good student and follow the instructions. If I was out a tiny bit I got hell. It worked. Worked on my kids too. I shot a red-dot site once but I couldn't remember if aiming was different. Thank you thank you thank you. I'm not crazy! I was taught correctly.

    I had that sight on my hk p30 and after using it for 2 months and about 1500 rounds, i removed it. You need to keep your head straight like a red dot and in a combat situation you roll your head down and you shift your point of aim/point of impact. As well the slightest movement breaks the outer ring which indicates you will be off target. I do like the p365 but that snag free design is not conducive to single hand manipulations off a barricade or belt/boot in the event of an injury. My opinions are my own and please keep up the good work with all you are doing.

    I have the p365 SAS. The first time I shot 50 rounds I was low left Center Mass at 7 yards out. The second time I went to range I put another 50 rounds and this time I was more Center Mass. Does take time to adjust your eyes to the site mounted within the barrel.

    I absolutely love the Meprolight FT Bullseye... once I got used to it. I had one on a glock 27 and an m&p 40c. It is easily the most intuitive, easiest to acquire sight without going rmr/red dot.
    Kind hearted correction: it's not just fiber-optic. It has tridium gas. Works amazingly in day or night. My only complaint is glare on the sight when in a well lit place

  • @paulcallaway71

    When I first got my Sig P238 my shots constantly grouped low because I was aiming using a 'lollipop sight picture'. It wasn't until I researched my Sig's sights & learned that I needed to use a 'combat sight picture', which to me at the time was counterintuitive (it was my first handgun). But once I learned how to properly aim with a 'combat sight picture' I got much better hitting the target that I was wanting to hit. It's just a mindset on using that style of sight system. I imagine this P365 SAS will have a bit of learning curve as well if you're not used to it's sight system. Good luck!

    Colion, you can order the sight used on the Sig P365 SAS for use on other handguns from Meprolight who is the maker of the sight. It is their FT Defender and it is available for dovetail mounting on numerous handguns including the Glock 19 which is what I have one mounted into! To use the sight, you center the dot inside the circle then shoot. What that sight does is insure the barrel is parallel to the ground and not twisted to the right or left.

However, I didn’t buy it with the intention of going target shooting. That’s not what it is designed for. I practice point and shoot. You might be surprised how accurate you can be that way. I expect it to save my butt in a real life, on the street emergency situation where I need to get it out and up in a very big hurry. I expect my target would probably get powder burns in addition to all of the little holes in its center mass. That’s the way it is on the street.

      I believe you are correct, sir. I bought one and it was a little weird at first as it was all new to me but with aging eyes I found it quicker to get on target. It took me a few mags to get used to it but I bought it as a carry gun for close up work, not a target gun. I managed to keep 'em all in a six inch circle consistently and that's good enough for me. I just can't get those super tight groups with regular sights anymore anyway and in the real world, if you ever have to use it you won't be able to take your time on target for precision shooting. That said, I really like my SAS and found it much much more comfortable to shoot than my old Kahr PM 9.

I'm just programmed for the traditional sights I guess. After switching back my groups tightened up and I feel much quicker acquiring my target. I advise anyone thinking about buying this gun to try and shoot with the sights first... It's very different.

    Love the look and feel of the SAS, but other UA-camrs are having the same accuracy issue with those sights. Still prefer the normal 365 or Hellcat.

      SAS is my first gun owned but not first shot I really believe that since I didnt learn with iron sights and learned with this Fiber optic sight that I didn't have issues that someone who used to iron sight would have

    I held this gun today. Trippy sight system to say the least. Center is the dot inside the circle ⭕️. I definitely would never carry a ported pistol either for Self defense. Sig is definitely starting to step it up though for sure.

    You should take the ported barrel out of the SAS and put the standard barrel in the SAS to see if there ports effect the accuracy or if it’s the Meprolight sights that are off. Because some people say it’s the ported barrel that creates the inaccuracy. Some say it’s the meprolights that throw the accuracy.

    Two questions:
    The X-Ray 3 standard sighting system receives high praise. The new system, while Snag free, will require an entirely different sight acquisition technique / mind set of which the most likely purchasers will not invest the time needed to master. Value added?
    Micro-compacts in 9x19mm, whilst significantly more effective than the 380 suffer from significant reduced muzzle velocities due to the short barrels. The porting will increase the reduction and increase the weapon's report but to what extent? Value added?
    Worth it?
    P. S. Certainly a functional / usable / no snage slide release could have been utized..... yes?
    Thank you Colion for all you do.

    I love the P365 SAS. Especially that Sig makes it non-ported barrel version now. It’s for self defense that’s usually close range not matches hitting bulleye targets at 25 to 50 yards.

    I've heard the same thing from several experienced shooters that checked out the SAS in stores but didn't actually shoot it ..their eyes just didn't work with that sight for some reason...porting seems to be a good upgrade idea. Stay strong and keep fighting the good fight! Thanks for all your doing..

    I love my 365. It’s the standard version, has a safety, no biggie, kind of like the thumb safety on this gun for appendix carry. The p365 is arguably a great shooting pistol for being as small as it is. When I first shot one, it almost felt like I was shooting a Glock 19 sized gun (other than the small feel in the hand). Very smooth for a small gun. Not as kicky as you’d expect. Love it

    Worthy to note.. this works off the Bindon Aiming Concept. Effectively, your dominant eye is seeing the dot and your non-dominant is seeing the background/target, and your brain blends the two into a super-imposed field of view. It is why you can shoot a red dot with the objective cap closed and both eyes open, looking "past" the RDS.

      If you are used to using the old style of sights, it takes some getting used to. If a person who never shot before uses it, they are dead on.

    • @godgunsandgoldens

      Sorry, people who never shot are not going to be “dead on” as you put it. It’s not magic. Small pistols are harder to shoot well for all shooters experienced or not.

    • @Stevarooni
      @Stevarooni 4 роки тому

      @DV8 *** there are _always_ compromises. Unless your defensive handgun has a bipod? But I understand, I wouldn't choose the SAS unless I found I could shoot it accurately.

    • @AllanG1914
      @AllanG1914 4 роки тому +1

      @DV8 *** Hi. It comes down to sights. On competition guns with 1 mm fiber optics, you can be very accurate at small targets but it takes a just a little longer to acquire. With defensive sight, they're usually larger but faster to pick up but would cover very small targets unless you can your hold.

    That's some cool heat. Haven't had much trigger time on mine yet. Its different and will take more than a few rounds to be up to speed. There's some trade off, lose some distance accuracy for speed of "no snag" ability to draw. Definitely for up close and personal when speed and reliability counts the highest. For me, I'll be carrying my full frame 226 AND this 365 SAS.
