For lore's purpose, it's important to mention that Cadia exploded and got consumed by the rift, but never technically "Fell".

The lore is actually a bit cooler than that. The Imperium always believed that Abaddon only attacked Caida throughout the years to achieve a military win. But unbeknownst to them, Abaddon had spent millennia slowly smashing Pylons on dozens of Worlds across the Galaxy and around the Eye. It was always a small side object in the Larger Black Crusades, so no humans noticed the pattern. But at the last moments the Eldar and Trazyn tried to help and warned Cadia/Crawl about Abaddon’s plan. But The Warmaster won and so the galaxy was cut in half.
That might have been intentional. A lot of fans are still salty about the level of retconning GW engaged in to make Failbbadon the Armless and his crusades into something other than a massive failure.
@@themotorcyclemasswhole The Retcon narrative isn't really true though. Yes, the 13th Black Crusade was changed in its details when "Fall of Cadia" came out. But Abaddon winning many battles, successfully raiding the Imperium for millennia and having successful campaigns was canon as far back as 2nd Edition and 3rd Edition. We only got specific examples in 2014, but that was 2 years before "Fall of Cadia"
Tldr; the Failbaddon meme is a lie, and the Fanbase just won't move on.
Yeah that retconn certainly made Failbaddon look varely capable. Still doesn't justified the fact that he got stomp every time by a bunch of Imperial Guards and a handful of chapters, pointlessly losing six black fortress and probably every veteran chaos marines from the heresy. Even if Failbaddon manages to expand the eye, the black legion doesn't have the resources to finish the imperium, meaning he needs to relly on the Chaos gods to do the job.
Which is dumb because the Chaos gods gain nothing from destroying humanity. Effectively he handed over 10,000 years of hardwork and failure to a bunch of soul tumors that couldn't care less about destroying the imperium and just want to feed endlessly.

@@themotorcyclemasswhole I am not surprised. The Failbaddon meme narrative is incredibly strong and dominant in the Fanbase. Nobody actually reads the canon sources for themselves, instead relying on UA-cam videos and fan discussions. And they don't read primary sources either.
I would recommend tracking down old interviews with ADB. He really explains the disconnect between GW canon and fan misunderstanding on Abaddon specifically.

I'm not up to date regarding Valdors return, but I would love it, if he takes his loyalist demon army into the webway and clear out most of the demons lurking inside there. This should boost the eldar and ofc the humans. Closing the warp rift created by Magnus, takes a huge weight of the emperors shoulders. More power to concentrate on saving whats left to save.

I think the Great Rift actually represents the forces of chaos in their last stand. Expend all this power to make a fuck off big gash and then continue to hemorrhage power to keep it going. Not to mention the ever present war against the Eldar and the constant seiging of the throne room gate means that even for a force that can continually spawn combatants, shits gotta be spread a little thin
But Chaos isn't bleeding out. The Gods have never been stronger, their access to the material universe have never been greater and the Traitor Legions are more numerous and supplied than ever.

Nah, the great rift caused countless more psychers to pop up during the Psychic awakening. Magnus and Mortarion have their real space empires growing at a rapid speed, especially the New Sorcerer Kingdom of Magnus. More and more psychers are born, and they hear the call of Magnus, so the army of Chaos grows stronger. The flood gates to chaos was opened, the presence of the warp in real space is stronger than ever. The greater the rift, the more souls they can take, so chaos becomes even stronger.

I mean Khorne, Nurgle, and Tzeench definitely got power. With all the blood, mortarion, Psychers, and Magnus they have grown. Slaanesh probably is weakened as people are in the military than in pleasure, pleasure worlds probably got destroyed when the rift opened. The fact that the Ynnari and Trazyn want to pull off some heists will weaken her. The other gods will be fine due to the constant permanent of there aspects

The division of the Imperium gives me strong late Roman Empire vibes where it was split in half with the WRE and ERE, except that the Western half of the Milky Way is the more prosperous half.

Of course we don't know what Valdor is actually up to yet...if he's in fact out to save humanity, or if he's maybe gone all Ultron on how to "save" the galaxy.... It was sure a helluva reveal...I should have figured it out when his name was an entire book ..

I think Lion’el might return and control/unify imperium nihulus, which could then lead to a half and half kind of civil war/disagreement across the imperium like you suggested, just a theory though

I just gotta imagine our Pokemon trainer going into the eye, chucking some pokeballs at Lucius, Kharn, Angron, Magnus and Morty to just display them in a stasis chamber.
The Great Rift supposed made Chaos stronger yet they keep getting their cheeks clapped by the Primaris Marines and the Imperium of Man on a daily basis, they should have had their own version of Primaris first and MUCH stronger variants of the Demons they originally had among the four Chaos Gods.
Then in a short amount of time at least possibly within a few short weeks, proceed to curbstomp the Imperium easily as well as conquer many of their worlds and gain many recruits from all over the broken Empire before the Imperium could create their own version to counter Chaos itself and turn back the tide.
And let’s be honest as it stands now in the lore they seem like a utter inconvenience to be dealt with compared to the massive threat that is the Tyranids and to a lesser extent, the Orcs themselves.
Yeah given what happened Chaos should be curbstomping most of the galaxy at this point. The Imperium on a desperate campaign of trying to stall Abaddon's forces as they are on a rampage towards Terra. While the other factions find themselves attacked by an endless horde of Chaos daemons and their mortal servants.
We should be at the end of the mortal realm in the galaxy, were the only hope is to hold back the Warp as the Dark Gods roar.

You know all this time the Great Rift has been doing it's thing and I never once stopped to think about how that would affect the average pleb's knowledge of Chaos.
I like how Nyx from the MtG Setting Theros kinda works like the Immaterium. Makes Gods and Monsters based off of people beliefs, but instead of being a horrifying hellscape its a trippy laser light show in the sky

Me too. I think as a custode that the chances of him having fell to chaos in any way are very minimal, demon prince valdor might make Khorne shit himself so maybe there’s a reason for that 😂. I lowkey want GW to have valdor himself become the new body for the emperor, or have whatever he’s been doing all this time give him the knowledge to revive the emperor. I’m not a huge fan of big E myself, but i can’t see how the imperium can survive for too much longer without him
The warp has tried to cross to the materium long enough! The warp doesn’t only have the only power, the materium does as well!
The Necron aren't all that worried about the Great Rift since they could just seal it with the pylon tech again. I am hoping that the greatest Pokemon trainer of all time is going in to get the 4 uniques in there before it gets shut though.

I feel like Chaos should be capitalizing on the great rift more. I mean they went through the trouble of crashing a Black Stone Fortress to create said rift in the first place. Not to mention Chaos picked a hell of a time for in fighting. Also, the Silent King's return isn't as big a deal as I think it should be.

I don’t remember what half of the Galaxy Kaliban (DA home world) is on, but it would be interesting if it was on the cut off half of the Imperium.
The Lion could rise and end up uniting that half of the Imperium under his rule. With help from his legion, he could even create his own version of Primaris marines, but in his image (more like honorable knights, etc).
Also he could embody the old ways of the Imperium (Great Crusade era). IIRC he was against the codex astartes at first (could be wrong), and could structure his Imperium much like how it was during the Great Crusade. Could even rip some stuff from King Arthur and have the Lion create his own “Knights of the Round Table” with a group of his favorite marines.
Then over time have the great rift fade in specific places (due to Necron pylons, banishing demons, other plot concepts) and let the two new empires meet one another.
