I was hoping you'd mention the princess' musical cues during their saving Ralph sequence, I was bowled over with that bit! Great review man, I had pretty much the same feelings towards it as you!

I am eagerly anticipating the Renaissance. I was born the same year Little Mermaid came out, and I grew up with those movies!

As someone who considers himself the biggest Wreck-It Ralph fan ever (the first movie is my favorite movie of all time), I personally loved this sequel a lot, even if I still SLIGHTLY prefer the first movie.
**INCOMING RAMBLING ABOUT MY LOVE FOR THE MOVIE**
A lot of that just comes down to the fact that, as you mentioned, Ralph and Vanellope's friendship is just that endearing and fun to witness. All the moments between them just screwing around are really cute to me, and the emotional moments between the two work just as well IMO. (Also, as someone brilliantly pointed out on TV Tropes, Ralph and Vanellope's eventual conflicting ideas of living life make sense given the kind of games they come from: Fix-It Felix Jr is a more retro arcade style game that has little variation in structure and gameplay, whereas Sugar Rush makes a point about variety with its whole "new racers daily" slogan.)
I really like Ralph's development in the film, and his struggle to help Vanellope and slowly realizing he may lose her tugs at the heart strings in so many ways. He's still the lovable, if a bit childish and destructive, oaf we've all come to love, and I appreciate how they emphasized how much of a "dopey" father figure he is for Vanellope, in that he's not the brightest bulb in the shed, but he's great at being there to give reassurance to Vanellope when things look tough for them and help lift her spirits with some silly activities, like them building a "pigloo" as he calls it.
Vanellope's part of the plot, though, is what really captured my interest and is what made the movie such an enjoyable watch for me, not only for her development, and it continuing the themes of the first movie about game characters trying to escape the monotony of their life, but for the message it gives about not being afraid to pursue your dreams, even if it means leaving loved ones behind. I'm sure a number of people can relate to that. (I'd also like to point out that I love how Vanellope's glitching was used as a visual cue for the younger viewers of the movie to indicate whenever she’s upset in the movie.)
I also loved all the new characters too, even if none of them match up to the amazingness that is King Candy/Turbo (the best villain in any movie ever IMHO). My favorite being Shank, because I love badass chicks, and I love how she helps Vanellope's development, while not trying to to dissuade her from Ralph. I also enjoy Yesss, especially she doesn't turn out to be a twist villain like a lot of people thought she would be, and her spunky attitude while also being a good supporting character for Ralph.
One big noteworthy piece of praise I have for this movie is the fact that the movie does put a lot of its focus in terms of story and character into the new environment of Slaughter Race, and I am SO glad this is the case. The advertisements made me really worried the movie was gonna lean too much into either the “LOL internet humor” and “Disney references”. But in all honesty, those parts are not as prevalent as the advertisements led us to believe. No, instead, the moviemakers remembered that this is still a world about video game characters, and rather than focus the story solely or mostly on the internet in general and all its facets, the important stuff is mostly related to an ONLINE racing game, and the internet is just a gateway into being able to explore those sort of games and what they bring to the table. Yes, obviously, the movie does still put in a lot of internet stuff, because it is still the main setting, but it all works in serving a purpose to the narrative the film wants to tell and compliments the characters’ development. The "dated meme" montage is to progress the plot, the scene with the Disney Princesses helps push Vanellope's development further, and neither scene go on for that long in the grand scheme of things. Even so, what makes this film work as a movie about the internet far more than The Emoji Movie, is that the film is ABOUT the internet and actually talks about it, rather than just having characters go there for one big shameless ad campaign, especially since the only plot relevant website that exists IRL is eBay. It shows how great the internet can be as a means of communication and finding things we want, while also not backing out of how dark of a place it can be as well.
On a different note, I’ve seen a number of people complain about how Ralph seems flanderized and “childish” in this film with his clinginess to Vanellope. I can see why people think this, but I disagree for the most part and think it’s simply a case of Your Mileage May Vary. Yes, Ralph does make a lot of dumb decisions in this film and does seem to push the conflict moreso than any other character, however, this is in line with his character flaws from the first movie. (He was kinda impulsive, a bit selfish, and emotionally driven in the first film as well, with him going to Hero's Duty to try to get a medal without thinking of the consequences. He could have easily died while in that game, and then his game would be unplugged and all the other characters in it would be homeless.) So it’s not necessarily him acting out of character, as far as I see it. Vanellope was his first real friend and the push that gave him the ability to be able to find happiness in his monotonous life, so it makes sense that he would hold her very dearly to his heart. I like to think of it as a case of leaning too far into a new way of living. Yes, it’s great that Ralph has a friend that he loves and who loves him back and they can have a lot of fun together, but you also need to be able to accept that your friends may not always want to do what you like and would rather go off to do their own thing in their free time or live life their own way. Not to mention that you can't just depend on having one friend to spend every day of your life with. And as new character Yesss says, “The Internet brings out the worst in people”, as is the case here with Ralph. Now, whether or not Ralph’s characterization in the film is enjoyable is all subjective, but I don't think he was out of character here.
No, my only real criticisms with the film are the fact that Felix and Calhoun didn't get to do much, and that it didn't elicit as much of a strong series of emotional reactions out of me. (I laughed a lot to be sure, but while it did hit me in the feels a few times, it didn't do so as strongly as the first movie.)
Overall, though, this film met all my expectations, and even managed to surpass some of them to a degree. With a really kinetic and fun story, strong development for our favorite plucky duo of Ralph and Vanellope, fun and memorable new characters, some fantastic animation that gives us a creative and humorous interpretation of the internet, and a large amount of funny, and a few emotional, moments that almost always hit the mark, I can easily see myself going back to rewatch this movie just as many times as the first one.

Eh, I'd argue that that scene emphasizes that Ralph has put too much stock in Vanellope's view of him and their friendship alone. (On top of still nicely touching on how people use the internet to say whatever the hell they want, without thinking of how it can psychologically affect people.) He thinks that no one else matters except Vanellope, which is only partially true, in that it's great that he has a best friend who can see everything that's great about him, but it's also unhealthy to put too much value in only one friendship, because not all friendships remain the same, and some can even break, as Ralph almost did with theirs.

I can sorta see that, I just wish that they used that idea a little more. It felt to me like they were using that comments scene specifically to get to Yes's line about how the Internet is a dark place but it's also a wonderful place, which is another theme that I think would have been cool to play with and explore a little bit more in depth

It’s fine joe, glad your still making videos. Sadly, I didn’t get to see it. It looks good. But I doesn’t feel as big, and it’ll be dated in years to come.
Also, this could mean a new era for Disney. Since frozen 2 is next. So it’ll possibly be a sequel era. Who knows? Anyways glad your still here joe.

Oh boy, I hope we don't have a sequel era haha. And yeah, I actually was going to mention my concerns of it becoming dated but I was talking too long and just forgot

I feel your pain. I won’t mind sequels every now and then, like the rescuers down under. But if it’s common. I’ll be upset. Because I like Disney for making original content. And most stuff nowadays is sequels and remakes, plus reboots. Also thanks for the reply! Your one of my favourite youtubers, means a lot :D

Didn't watch full review since I still want to see the movie. But yea I'm never that excited for sequels when they come out this many years later. Its been so long since the first one and it was a great movie. No one was asking for a sequel (I don't think) but now its so popular to put a sequel on everything.
I'm really excited for the live action Lion King though.

Come on back after you watch the movie then! And I don't even necessarily mind if there's a long wait between sequels, like I still had excitement for Incredibles 2 after so long, but yeah, part of it is there needs to be a bit of a demand for the sequel and a big part of it is there needs to be a story to tell. Like I mentioned in the video, I just hope that Disney doesn't go down the path of franchises in their releases as opposed to consistently producing great and new ideas

@@JoeTheDisneyGuy Yea its easy to continue the story with the Incredibles, a family of supeheroes. But Ralph was fine being done after 1 movie. Still interested in seeing this one regardless.

Yeah, the only good reason for a sequel in my opinion is to exceed the first movie. And in my humble opinion that has never been done (whereby the first film was already a good movie).
And that includes Aliens and Bladerunner 2049.

After ten other reviews of this film, you're the first one who DIDN'T reference the Emoji movie. That aside, Wreck it Ralph 2 is more layered than and satirical than you supposed. The Shake/Pancake scene fills in for a pre-movie short and the trick ending is a nice touch.

Probably helped that I actually never saw the Emoji Movie haha. Didn't hear great things and just got too busy to even check it out for myself
