I mix in 1/2 cup of denatured alcohol for every 3 gallons of water. it makes the paint thinner and takes longer to set so you don't have to rush it. Turned out sick though!
I did this using Marble dip on a Mardave body 22years ago lol...balanced the shell upside down and had a small hole in the roof with a bit of tape over it, filled it with water then add the paint/dip .Pull the tape off and release the water. It left the paint on the inside of shell, then I added a little glitter before the dip dried last thing to do is spay over the dip(I used white) to make it really stand out.
After your last coat of dip, shake off excess water but leave some drops and do a light coat of something very metalic like silver or gold, which will give the illusion of ghost water droplets after its all back-coated! Ive seen that effect on lowriders and it looks dope af! Cool vid and thanks for posting!
It comes out better if you spay back and forth across the water and DO NOT STIR IT. The point is this is so all the paint sits on top of the water not mixed up in chunks throughout it
Awesome! Thank you for showing this…! I scotch bright the inside of my body’s before painting it helps the paint adhere really good! If u have ever hit the body on a curb the paint may chip out…. If u scotch bright the body before painting it that will not happen. I do rc crawlers so the body’s take a beating… tricks of the trade..
I have some in the works. I'm going to try and do hydro dipping with stencils. I also want to build a portable drift track. We recently had a daughter so that's what had been keeping me busy. I hope to be getting back into it soon.
Dude, this is an awesome paint job. I have a similar idea for the same body, I just want to back it with gunmetal instead. I was going to mask and paint, now I think I have to try some hydrodipping. Thank you for the inspiration.
Wow that was cool man! I think hydro dipping works well cause you paint rc bodies from the inside so it looks super smooth. When I watch ppl hydro dip game controllers or something they always look caked on and too thick. Nice video man!
Cool I’ve never thought about dipping them to make the paint jobs don’t get me wrong I’ve got some really good paint jobs, but I never thought of dipping them in water to make like swirls and stuff
Dude, this is fantastic. I do quite a bit of airbrushing myself and I airbrush RC bodies and I fade in and out different colors to get somewhat that type of affect never thought about the dip but you have mastered that beyond belief. I think I will try that with my next project. Thanks for the tip and thanks for the video.!
The way I hydro dipped mine was filling the tub up with water adding ice and putting ice packs in until the ice melts and the water is still ice cold. It allows the paint to float on the water without clumping. And with holes in the body, you wont have to rotate just slowly at an angle lower it in and the air comes through the holes allowing the paint to stick inside. Then wiping the access away before pulling ot out. Still have to do it a couple times unless you spray a translucent color about 2 coats then use black and pearl or your choice of 2 colors and use those to hydro dip. Then back it. Or hydro dip with 2 colors then spray a 3rd to fill in the clear spaces before backing. Nice color choice. My first one was racing blue, black and gunmetal. Second was yellow and silver streak.
I've never painted an RC body before and I want to do something more than just a solid colour or a gradient fade. It's for a drift car. I think I might try this on some lexan offcuts first before moving to the actual car. I think blue and purple look great, but i'm tempted by red, yellow and orange, backed with lame flake first as I want the rainbow effect, then a bright silver.
1 i would try warmer water and it seems you lose most of your paint when you stir it...also another tip is to use the tubes they give you like with a can of wd40...those little red tubes you attach? Would really help alot plus give you wild patterns
It works better if you first off spray a light base coat on the inside of the body, like how you’d spray a solid color on any kind of clear lexeon body. This could’ve filled in the majority of the clear areas he still had after finishing his first layer of the dip. And spraying your color choices in a smaller paper cup including the same amount of clear in with other color choices. And If you think about this example as in a wax candle. Heat will melt it but when you put that still hot liquid wax into a cup of cold water, it instantly hardens back up and takes its forum. This procedure is kind of the same As in the cold water turns it into more of a film like layer. And that there is how you want the paint to forum into
The problem with spraying a "base coat" is your car is now primarily that color. The first layer is the first one you see. So if you don't mind all your colors tinted whatever color you used, then yes, this would work.
Thanks for the instruction! You said you cut out the protective layer and sprayed black, then used a marker for the black trim pieces? So this black trim was actually applied from the top of the car, while all the other colors are underneath? I think the last shot of your video should be with it mounted to the car frame so we can see the whole look. Again, thanks for sharing the technique.
Thank you so much for showing us the process , I have a arrma Vorteks and I want to pain my shell and I think I've found my process of getting it done . I really like 80s neon colours like hot bright pink and neon yellow would this work with it ???
That turned out really good. I didn't realize how easy this is to do. Now I'm curious if you could try a stencil design/logo in the middle somewhere while dipping. I guess it would just be better to stencil a logo straight onto the body before dipping. Either way I think it could be the next test in your experimenting skills.
It's like you read my mind haha! The next body I do a video on I'm going to try and hydro dip designs. My wife has a Cricut so I'm going to use that to make stencils.
Hello. I'm a first timer. Where do I find the protective covering for the outside? Also, I've heard of guys sanding the surface to help the paint adhere to the body. What kind of sandpaper do I use and how hard do I sand it?
The protective film is already on the outside of new bodies. I don't scuff my bodies, I don't think it's necessary. If you want to do it, just use a scotch bright pad and lightly scuff the inside. Just make sure not to touch the windows. You can't fix scuff marks in places you don't want them.
I do multiple dips because the paint won't cover the whole body in one go. When you dip the inside it pulls the paint up into the body instead of spreading it like when you dip normally. So if you cover the whole surface of the water it would only cover the sides of the body due to pulling the paint in different ways.
If I like how it looks, is it a waste? Plus, I don't use a full can per paint job. So i can do multiple bodies per can. Hydro film is even harder to apply on the inside. In my opinion, it looks terrible anywhere that's not a flat surface. To each their own.
Watched your video. Awesome. I race carpet tracks and am curious about paint flaking off upon impact. Have you attempted applying a paint backer first? If you have do you get similar results? Appreciate your how too video
I don't have any problems with paint flaking off because I use polycarbonate paint for rc car bodies. Having run both my hydro-dipped bodies for a while now, neither has chipped or flaked off.
Can anyone tell me where to find that bmw body for an Arrma Infraction? I'd love to have one but can't seem to find one. I'm new to the hobby so I'm not sure if they make a 1/7 bmw body or I just can't find one .
I have a little experience. I've been building rcs since I was 5 and I'm 44 now I love them its a hobby
I mix in 1/2 cup of denatured alcohol for every 3 gallons of water. it makes the paint thinner and takes longer to set so you don't have to rush it. Turned out sick though!
Thanks! I'm definitely going to try this.
Loving the green, grey and black one you had already done. Looks great. Good video 👍🏻

Wow that's a very different approach to rc painting! 👍
Wow! Great job.
You've officially inspired me.. now I'm thinking thinks over for my first Crawler build.
I've got to have a go at this ....Thanks for taking the time to share ..
Super cool man! 👌👌👌💯💯💯
I'm going to attempt my first dip body thank you for making this video
I'm in awe! Never seen anything like this before. Human imagination and talent have no limit! You sir surely miss none of it.👍🤘
Love the CANDY paint. Came out great.
Well I gotta try that 👌👍👍👍thanks for sharing the how to!
i never thought of dipping my rc car. it looks very nice! i might have to try it on my new rc soon! great video brother!
Looks great might have to give that a try on my next body
Красавчик). Я тоже свою приблизительно так выкрашу.. лайк
Killer paint! Thanks for sharing! I'm going to give that a try for sure.
Great instructions
Great video! Please do more videos :)
More content please. Any new projects?

Would love to see more of this!! Turned out awesome!
Came out a lot better than I thought it would. Love the look bro
Always wanted to try this. Thanks for taking the time to show the process and giving me the confidence to give it a try!
Awesome job on all the 3 bodies.
You should try to spray some hydrodiping activator on the water first? Might help stop the paint curing to fast.
looks great i just messed up my paint job on Tamiya TT02BR i just built and gonna sand down the body and try this! Great work Sir

I had no idea you could hydro-dip with paint like that - excellent work sir. Love it.
Nice work
That came out great. Thanks very much.

Thanks for the great info gonna try it soon

With drift bodies you don't want any holes otherwise I'll try the ice out.
Looks great although when yo first started I was skeptical but I continued to watch an wow bro. Its very cool💯💯💯💯
The Warmer or Semi hot the Water, THE BETTER as the Paint will not set as Fast and be more workable!! I have done this with Model Cars!!
Fantastic work...can this be targeted to an unmasked part of the car? Like a strip sectioned off?
It totally can. I'm making another video where I talk about this.
Very nice been wanting to see this done 👍💯 nice channel

Man that looks great !! Love it 🏁🏁🏁🏁 I’m going to try it definitely 👍🏻 🇬🇧
Awesome video!
Wow that’s really a great paint method. Love the way it turned out.
You must be using a gopro lol Thanks for this video
Yep, a hero 10 haha. That thing likes to get hot.
Very cool I will have to try that!

It was also over 100 that day so the paint dried fast. That tube idea is a good one though.
So that’s pretty cool
New subscriber man you really did an awesome job on that body I kind of want to try this now
Looks awesome
Hallett, not too far from home.
Been there many times years ago!

As long as it's polycarbonate paint any color should work.
Gundam builders unite!

@Drift66 Gotcha! Thanks man!
Looks very marble like. Multiple dips is used only because the paint cures too fast right?

So if you cover the whole surface of the water it would only cover the sides of the body due to pulling the paint in different ways.
@@Drift66 makes perfect sense.
At the end, spray it with lacquer spray.
Looks cool but Idk man, to uncontrolled to be wasting the $30 in paint each body. Why not get actual Hydro film ?
If I like how it looks, is it a waste? Plus, I don't use a full can per paint job. So i can do multiple bodies per can. Hydro film is even harder to apply on the inside. In my opinion, it looks terrible anywhere that's not a flat surface. To each their own.

Hello, what is your colors tamiya ps for the hydropaint ?
Thanks you
Great stuff but im dying to see how to do it with film.
Can you use metallic paints and not translucent? I have both purple and blue and would love to try this on a Supra body. Thanks Joe
As long as you use polycarbonate paint you can use what ever color you like. Good luck and I hope you have fun doing it!
Use warm water and the ain’t won’t solidify quickly
🔥
Will this work with solid colors?
Yeah! The two cars in front of me are done with solid colors.
Can anyone tell me where to find that bmw body for an Arrma Infraction? I'd love to have one but can't seem to find one. I'm new to the hobby so I'm not sure if they make a 1/7 bmw body or I just can't find one .
❤❤❤
workingg!!
your a fuking lengend mate :)
Cool idea seems like a waste of money and paint though
Nah!…
Dude I'm not a professional but Tamiya paint is horrible. Duratrax paint is the best
you waste so much paint, you should move your hand around like your painting a wall and not center shot the whole time...
This is how I do it, feel free to try your own way. I don't think I waste paint if I'm happy with the results.
Can this be done in a flame design?
the outcome is random. you could mask off some flames before dipping though
