There's no question the Mazda Miata MX-5 is a great platform. From a plethora of parts to choose from you can use this car for just about anything. Nowadays it's much more common to do a full engine swap - but what happens when you up it to higher compression and throw a single turbo on it? The move wasn't well planned from a business aspect at all. It should have been shop first then worry about housing. Even if he would have gotten a house with a garage it would have worked for a while. A shop is what allows him to get paid and I know he's stressed about it but it could have been avoided with better planning. I never really figured out why he chose to go to Atlanta in the first place considering all the areas he could have gone.
EDIT Kinda like when Tyler Fialko moved from Cali. His videos just sort of went down after that and he had a nice home shop in the first house.
I honestly don’t think i have anything bad to say about Gingium. Such a good guy that actually care about his followers. He’s obviously in a bit of rough patch with the move he made and trying to get settled in GA, but I’m still so impressed by his content and his perseverance.
The guy has come a long way! I remember when he was just a video game nerd (I also partake in the nerding, not even a slight trace of offense was intended here), doing race sims and stuff is what I saw... I could be wrong, I didn't watch him.
I have to say I respect the heck outta the kid! He's worked so hard and learned so much in just a few short years. Nothing but respect, love seeing his builds.

Caleb is the person that introduced me to miatas back when this car was still a stock 1.6 and now im in my garage with my own little na that im almost done turboing.
Same for me. Got a mariner blue na because of him. But I went another route and swapped a 1.8 with itb in it. I love this little thing 💙

All it took for my first Miata was someone pulling out in front of me despite seeing or hearing me, accidents can happen in any car at any hp level
My alignment was off on my new to me MSM and I was driving carefully on the road through the back to Fontana Village at MATG, my Yokohama ADVAN A052s decided to let me go half off the road when I was going 10 around a corner. I managed to board slide the middle of the car down the edge of the road and back on 🤣.

@@nolahahnshouse3389 absolutely, different builds for different people! My goal with mine was as cheap as I can do it reliably. I’m sure he has a lot more than $1,200 into this motor and turbo set up :)

It's taken me 6years to restore mine close to stock . I've daily driven the crap out of it and I still love it. Easy to work on when it breaks and parts are cheap. I get random people asking me to sell it to them all the time a true modern classic. Pop up lights are the way to go for sure.

I've been watching Caleb for years. I remember back in the day watching him arguing with people in multiple Haggard Garage videos and I subscribed to him then because he could argue really well because he knew what he was talking about. He's built quite a few awesome cars over the years, but his turbo LS Volvo is among my favorite.
I love the owner grinning ear to ear when his car is pushing it. So often guests on car review channels always try to look stoic or straight faced. He truly loves his car and that's awesome.

"it's really hard to crash a miata" yes, but when I first bought mine it had 10 year old tires (yes, 10!) and before I realized that I spun out on a freeway onramp.....so glad I have new wheels and tires. The grip is so much better.
On wet roads it's easy to crash.

Tibby GT? Man I have this odd love for those cars. Open header exhaust, basically, on like an 06 2.7L - Tibby GT (even though the SE has a 6 speed, I believe, I'd still rather have a GT) is one of the best sounding cars I've ever heard!
To say that this is surprising, would be a vast understatement. I don't get it... I don't need to understand it to love it though! I need to swoop me one before I can't find one anymore... Have as a project car. Although, I'm sure the aftermarket is abysmal? Do you know?

They might go down in price a little once the used car market comes down, but honestly I think NA and NB Miatas are really going up in price just because they are starting to become rare.
They are already dirt cheap.

One of the cleanest, nicest Miatas ever, still one of my favourite Miata builds, after seeing it all those years ago. I did like the black lip a little better though, otherwise its the perfect street/track Miata imo.

This reminds me of Spy Hunter's 300whp turbo'd Mazda Miata from back in the day in Omaha, NE. 1320 Old School when it was just a small local car club. I love this car, it's a sleeper, subtle, and well done. It's classy. The kind of power that thing makes is nuts! We all know how light a Miata is and that's like a Gen 1 or Gen 2. The cool thing is that it's not a heavy LS swap so no over or under steer b/c of a heavy front. Jesus I bet that thing is hands down amazing. I pray his engine lasts if it doesn't I hope he sticks with the 4 cylinder.
Honestly I didn't really care for Miatas until I watched Gingiums channel many years back. Ended up picking up a 1.8 90' as my first car with 293k miles and I'm currently restoring it as I go.
High or low compression doesn't matter, it's all in the tune and who tunes it 🔥 BP for life!!

@@Corbots80 compression isnt a limiting factor to making power in a turbo car as long as theres proper octane fuel used. This car is heavily limited by turbo size, higher compression might spool the turbo a tiny bit faster but its already so small its going to light off right off idle every time

I'm building my na Miata right now and it's so fun seeing the potential of the platform. I'm going k series in mine, with all the Destroy or Die suspension, but no matter what you do to them miatas just have a way about them.

Awesome NA build. I'm loving my ND2. I plan on leaving the engine alone for now since I'm having a lot of fun stock. I did swap in some meister r coilovers and they transformed the car. No more crazy body roll.

The stock BP is a great motor, I’ve never understood why people take them out. They are cheap to buy too! I have a stock 1.8 with the higher compression stock pistons and 8lbs of boost, it’s a fast street car! This must be insane!!

Question about the 1.6L, is there an advantage of going the 1.6L over the 1.8L?
Absolutely no advantage, the 1.8L are superior in every ways. The VVT Miata engine is the best you can get for a 90-05. The BP4W is a close second, the NA 1.8L is OK while the 1.6L is the worst one.

I'm running 15psi with a supercharger on a stock engine with no issues. I don't like following rules either so I will push it to 18 psi soon but someday I'd like to have 400HP too :-)

Yeah, 388whp on a GT2560R??? You must have meant 288whp, because a GT2560R is by NO MEANS gonna flow enough air to ever make 388whp. It is nice to see MattMan's old motor being used in a Miata that doesn't just go straight, seeing as that is what makes the Miata so special...the handling. Clean looking car, love the color.
Yea i said the same thing, those turbos max out at 310hp if that is what ive heard, i got a v band set up with that turbo in my room just waiting to be put in, the goal is 200whp for now

I would argue that Quinn Kizis has the perfect miata. Its extracting the essense of what the miata is and increasing its concentration.
I got the all metal one razors are fire just wish the blades stayed sharper longer always a clean shave tho and the shaving cream is bomb

Honestly I never really cared for the rally miata, wasn't really my thing so didn't really pay much attention to Gingium. Now seeing this car gives me huge respect for what he's done, such a great but not overdone build. Makes a tonne of power but it's not some riced up hotboi miata. Makes me desperately want to sell my E36 and pick up an NA but they're ridiculous prices where I live now.
A 2.3 ecoboost mustang engine and transmission is a simple swap. Although with K Miata swaps being super cheap that’s probably the route I’d go.
Depends on how much power you want because why put money in a swap when you can just build the 1.6 or 1.8 it's like 7-8k to just have a running kswap that's only 200whp
The ecoboost swap is the only swap imo that actually makes some amount of sense. Why spend all the money on the K swap when you could just buy a honda S2000 for the same price and have a better car? Why spend the money on an LS swap when you could just buy a corvette for less money than what the swap would cost you and enjoy that.
The ecoboost engine in the mustang is such a disgusting combination, that it actually makes sense to buy a used mustang, take the 2.3 and put it in the miata. Then buy a 7.3 crate engine and dump that into the mustang. Sell the mustang or the miata for a small profit and enjoy which ever car you want to keep.
@@tristanjones7735 first of all, you’re not gonna find an S2K for the price it would cost for a K swap. You will not.
Second of all, driving a v8 corvette and a v8 miata is a MASSIVE difference. Not the same whatsoever!
If someone was so cheap and so frugal they had to question the price point on an engine swap versus a stock car with the same engine, they shouldn’t even consider it, it clearly isn’t in your budget.

It mainly comes down to a factor I was taught called cost per performance. While some would say the cost of swapping a different engine into a vehicle compared to the car that had that engine originally come in would steer some of them into the direction of getting the car rather than swap it. Yet, based on what the car is being used for (street, track, etc), could also factor in as to what route to take. An example of this is my recently bought Z32 that I'm currently going to engine swap an LS into because the cost of doing that engine and the power goal I'm trying to reach is a better option compared to the other swaps that are possible for this particular chassis.

Talking about the 1.6 vs an SR20, you should drive a KA24 S chassis with a medium sized turbo. You’ll be even more impressed. They’re 100% capable out of the box. Also almost a full liter more of displacement
I really like Honda Motors, but it sucks that none besides the S2K is RWD.
Which is why I can't wait to KSwap my Miata like it's a better motor that still keeps the original spirit of the car, & if I wreck on the track I can still get a Miata with no engine for like 1K.

I love the build but I’d be too nervous about having a car where I’d ideally need to test every tank of E85 I put in there lol. I watched Gingium’s content from his early days and this was always my favorite car of his. It just looks so ‘right’.
It's mainly due to the motor being high compression, a good middle ground when it comes to compression could make this engine good on both pump gas or e85 if the car ran a flex fuel setup.
There’s a height restriction on Miata’s if you ask me. I drove my friends once and i was constantly peeking above/below the windshield, this was with the top down. If i had to drive it with the top on i feel like my neck would hate me
You can make big improvements with aftermarket seats and rails. My sunvisors became functional after new seats. But yeah if your over 6'3" or so it will be difficult.
I miss my mariner so much, but I'm just too much of a damn ogre to fit!! I followed Gingium's entire build with this and I enjoyed all of it.

@@danielnelson4881 Mariner Blue Miata. Mine looked almost exactly like Gingium's. I am 6 '5", I did all the big guy mods (foamectimy to seat, smaller steering wheel, hammer to parcel shelf, shades removed, door handles removed, brake handle bent), but it was just too tiny.

I have a Mazdaspeed 6 a Maserati 3200gt and 2 miata's (1 10th anniversary and 1 nbfl turbo) and the turbo miata is the only car what makes my hands shake after a drive.
