    These are just too cute! My 21 year old granddaughter just asked me if I would make some book sleeves for her. She’s an avid reader as is my bonus daughter and her daughter. Looks like I will be making these for Christmas gifts. The granddaughter who asked me to make some is excited about going to the fabric store to pick out her fabric. This makes my heart happy.

    THANK YOU for this video! I found it just before Christmas and decided to make sleeves for next year's gifts, except my eldest walked through the door with his book in the merchant's paper bag as a sleeve, so here I am to rewatch and make an emergency sleeve.

    Love this idea - I will make the small one to hold the “ to do “ list pad as well as post it notes and pen - I will use a piece of cardboard to give it a firm backing to attach magnets to place on the fridge - thank you for sharing your neat ideas 🦋🇨🇦

    Thank you!! I got a light box for my granddaughter. It’s so fragile that I made a giant version of this book sleeve w/ fleece for padding and 2 snaps at top. (I forgot to make pocket on outside but I still think it’s perfect.)
    Now I have 3 gift books and I think your sleeves are the perfect complement to each. Thank you so much!!
    Now I’m using up some of my fabric stash. 😉

    Thank you for such a clear and efficient video; your pattern/instructions are great, too! :) I've made a dozen of these now in all different sizes - they're quick and simple to make and the results are beautiful. Each one I've made is unique; I've even created one starting with an old pretty button I had on hand and building the sleeve around it. I use the rick rack or something similar because it makes it easier to adjust the width depending on the width of the book.

    Just made a set of these. Not sure if I did it right though… (second time really sewing something) The small one can fit a small mass market paperback comfortably and I can cram my kindle into it (although it fits more comfortably in the middle size). The medium size is better for the kindle and can handle thicker mass market paperbacks. The large size can handle a larger traditional paperback and maybe a thinner hardback, but doesn’t stand a chance against my epic fantasy hardback books. 😅 But that being said really great tutorial and when I go for a second set I can always adjust the measurements to accommodate my larger books ❤

    TOTAL beginner here. This may be a silly question, but what is the difference between basting and top stitching? I did do a Google search and basting stitches appear to be much longer and temporary, but when I watch this video, I can't tell the difference between basting stitches and top stitches. Thanks in advance - Super excited to make a few of these!

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  4 місяці тому +1

      Hi! Yes, basting is a long machine stitch that’s meant to hold things together and can be taken out later if it shows. I baste things with a smaller seam allowance so that I don’t need to take it out later, since it won’t show, it’ll just get buried by the seam later. I hope that makes sense!

      Hi Michelle, I believe I just responded to your message on Etsy :)

  • @sharondorr5
    @sharondorr5 2 місяці тому +1

    I purchased your pattern and followed the video in making it. I found when I went to put the top piece with the fleece on it inside the lining, it didn’t fit!!!!. So I had to composite the measurements another 1/4 inch so the top would fit inside the lining. Is your direction incorrect? I even cut the bulk out of it and still didn’t fit, anyway I figured it out somehow. You need to adjust your pattern measurements for the fleece or maybe you used interfacing????. I think people need to know this before purchasing your pattern. Also can you confirm the measurements for the medium bag? Thanks. I’m a pretty good sewer, but was trying to figure out how to fix without throwing it away.

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  2 місяці тому

      So sorry you had an issue! The measurements are correct, the fusible fleece is cut the same size as the other pieces. Are you talking about sewing the lining to the outer piece around the top? If so, a tip is to make sure you’re cutting the fabrics in the same direction. Even cotton fabrics have more stretch in one direction than the other, so if you the outside piece along the selvedge, but the lining on the cross grain, the lining will be rigid around the top, while the outside has give, making it harder to wrangle them together. Or, if you mean it was hard to stuff the fleece/outside into the lining in order to sew them around the top, it doesn’t need to fit, it will of course be sort of stuffed in there, but as long as you can align the top edges and sew them, it doesn’t matter, since it will be turned right side out and the lining will be put inside. I hope that makes sense!

    • @PinCutSew
      @PinCutSew  11 місяців тому +1

      I think it could be, since the pocket is sewn to the front since it’s lined, all the seams are enclosed, so I’m not sure why you’d need French seams 🤔

      Whoops, sorry! It’s good now 👍🏻. I can only list 99 at a time and sometimes miss when something is low!

      Hi I purchased your printable pattern thank you. One quick question could you give me the measurement of one of your books that fit the large sleeve please? Thank you

      I'm not near it currently, but it fits several things! It fits my large iPad, my thick Bible, or a large hardcover book. I hope that helps! If you need more precise measurements, let me know :) @@juliecorbeil9060

    I cant understand why anyone who has a sewing machine would need to buy a pattern for this. You just size it to the size of your book. It could not be more simple. Thank you!

      A beginner sewer would appreciate pictures and step by step. I'm sure you didn't mean to come across snooty.
