- In this video, we will discuss projectile motion in great detail. In this problem we can treat x and y component to be independent, position and velocity at any general point can be estimated using kinematic equation of motion. There after by eliminating time from x and y direction position will provide us the equation of projectile trajectory. total flight time, maximum height and range on the horizontal axis can be estimated easily. We will see that x component of velocity is constant throughout the motion while y axis velocity change its sign as well as magnitude, which defines the velocity vector. the striking angle will be same as of initial flight angle with the x axis. If the angle is 45 degree the object will travel to maximum possible range while if the angle is 90 degree the object will reach the maximum height and it will have maximum possible flight time. Hitting a cricket ball with 45 degree angle will probably be a six.
