First time I've seen someone get to the trail via a train. You're a real trooper to go through that.

Here is future me coming back to tell you, you are not the person who got off at the wrong stop and ate at Arbys. Between Arbys and Damascus you discovered so much about other people and yourself, all to the good. Lets GO!😁🥾👉

Live about nine miles from the Amtrak station in Atlanta. If had only known that you were coming. Just Damn. I'm glad that you were able to figure out all of today's logistics.
Yeah, that whole North Springs, Sandy Springs MARTA station thing can be kind of confusing for out of towners. It's been many years ago now but I actually day hiked all of the Appalachian trail in Georgia. I would get up, drive up to the trail, parked at a predetermined parking area, then the shuttle would pick me up take me to a trailhead anywhere from 10 to 18 miles and then I would hike back to my truck, drive back home and go to bed in my own bed that evening or night. Was able to do this all the way up to Deep Gap, NC. At that point it was just be to difficult to get in any kinda of miles in a day's time and get back home in time for bed. Oh believe me I looked at it for a long time before giving up on the idea.
At one time, (about 10 years ago now) I was extremely familiar with the AT from Amicalola Falls State Park all the way up to Deep Gap North Carolina. I knew the miles to every Trailhead. I knew all the side trails. I knew were all of the Shelters were. I knew where all the supply stops were. All the crossroads, everything. Unfortunately it's been many years ago so some of my information is no longer valid but at one time Gainesville, Georgia's train station would have been the place to have gotten off and catch a shuttle to Amicalola Falls.
Even back when I hiked the trail the national Forest service charged an arm and a leg and your other leg to get a permit to do shuttle service in the national Forest, I think some of that is changed now. I'm seeing a whole lot more people offer shuttle service and they must be permitted thu the national Forest service. Again it's been a long time and maybe all of that has changed now, I hope so.
Currently I'm the caregiver for my Mother who is still at home at the age of 98. I gave up working to stay home with her until she no longer needs me and at that point I hope to be able to get out and help people get to the trail in the early season.
The other night I told you that you really didn't need "Luck" you just needed Grit and Determination. There's one more thing I would like to add to the list and that is, "Curiosity". 🤔 Curiosity will carry you a long way through life's adventures. I have found that for me, what keeps me going more than anything is Curiosity. I always want to know what's around the next Bend and over the next Hill, and I've found out the answer, it's a lifetimes worth of Bends and Hills that'll keep me occupied the rest of my life.
Take Care out there and for Gods sakes be Careful. I'll be looking forward to your updates. K

Rooting for you andrew. Hope you enjoy the hike. We're 20 more days to go. Stay safe out there and keep warm. Seems like a good day to get there. Clear skies. You had a long day and too little sleep. Take care. Thanks for sharing your journey. A rough one for ya but you made it to Wendy's lol. Thanks for posting about the rei shuttle situation and who to call to get to the trail. We will be dropped off by my father in law but maybe some with a similar plan like yours will watch this video and see how things are to get there. They'll appreciate it for sure.Cheers. Good luck. Good video.
