As always, love the Germans total dedication to quality from start to finish. Seems to me the problem of allowable weight for the rating of the owners driver’s license could be improved by the driver qualifying for a superior rating? It becomes evident that this isn’t a huge factory set up with high end equipment to do the total build under one roof. That’s ok for me. It shows they hustle parts and trucks from wherever they can and then have to engineer on the fly, take in customer requests and modify to supply. They are a small group with broad skill sets. They discussed the length of the chassis may be a problem over harsh terrain. Would it be possible to have some kind of articulating knuckle in the middle so that you could momentarily accommodate a high center type of situation. It would offer the owner/driver an option to safely drive his rig out of that unbalanced scenario. love the mock-up on the separate wooden unit that will be the layout the customer wants.
They have that artic in the center in certain dumptrucks, it's called a wigwag and it's a complete fuckup. Look up center steer or wigwag fuck ups. They're rather spectacular
Yes unlike the American auto workers who always are looking for short cuts at an over inflated price. The American AUTO Workers have always been notorious for COST OVER RUNS of cheaply made products. Lately the Americans have become parred with China in cheap goods. But unlike China the American cheap goods are extremely expensive. What they fail to discuss is how many place you can actually drive those things - the beautiful, desirable locations don't allow giant trucks tearing up the pristine landscape. In the locations nobody cares if it gets torn up, nobody wants to spend much time in because it is dull and un-glamourous. Expensive overland vehicles overland about 20% for actual overlanding, the rest of the time, they will be where everyone else is - in campgrounds, in parking lots, and on roads.
We have many "Grey Nomads" traveling around Australia in RVs and caravans/trailers. Some of them want to go north, up Cape Yorke. Very few of their vehicles survive more that 20 km or so off the bitumen. They shake to death on the corrugations. Proper off-road vehicles like these are the way to go. We've been building them for at least 60 years, but probably not as lux as these ones.

I find it absolutely amazing the incredible lives some people on this planet live. I wonder if they will ever truly know just how very lucky they are. It has been my experience in life (59 years) that the more these people have, the more they complain. Back in the late 90's my company was sold to a billionaire. All this man did was complain about money and how some of his friends had more money than he did. He cut wages and medical benefits to all of the employees in our company so he could save a few bucks and he worked everyone one of us to the bone. Today he is worth over 2.8 billion dollars, I wonder if he is any happier. My advice, work smart, not just hard and work for people that appreciate you, if not look elsewhere or work for yourself. Life is too short to get caught up in such nonsense. Let them have their toys, in the end they will be judged just like the rest of us, now that would be an interesting program to watch.........On another note, I have such respect and admiration for the dedicated people who actually design and build such vehicles, simply amazing!!!!!!

@Mike Zerker What the narrator on this clip didn't mention was property in parts of Germany is amazingly cheap if away from major cities. A friend of mine lived in Sulingen which is Lower Saxony area. His house was a 4 bed detached house, large living room, kitchen and 2 bathrooms. Outside a detached garage with self contained one bed studio flat with shower room. Large rear garden with mature trees. He sold it four years ago for €170,000. In my country (UK) a similar property would cost double that tho' if in London....millions!

IMO, the Mercedes firetruck conversion is well worth the money. I would take that over the other behemoth any day
Me too.

Very nice vehicles but what happened to the extended cab on the 7.5 ton,
It seems to have shrunk ???
100% not the same vehicle. They tried to pull a fast one on us.
The combination of old and new appeals greatly, solar panels for a microwave oven WI-FI and wood burning stove for hot water and cooking,
Meanwhile I take six months longer to change my oil because I'm too lazy to do it and the oil filter likes to slip out of my hand and roll down the driveway leaving a nice dark trail behind it.
Incredible vehicles. But believe me, you don't need a monster like that to cross Africa. Go simple, go now!
Nice. Love the contemporary interior. Other RV builders seem to design interiors from 1982.
love the translator, also I'm pretty sure the only place you couldn't get parts for that Mercedes diesel is in the united states
Little mileage, but plenty of hours on motor from pumping
unclegeek those era Mercedes engines are (almost literally) bulletproof especially with the maintenance it was able to receive from the fire department
Any of these bulletproof?
The little one costs more than my house!
@@Bulletguy07he's a idiot for selling 4 years ago
@@Bulletguy07 could have got about 500 thousand euros today
@@Bulletguy07 UK real estate prices are completely ridiculous. Utterly removed from reality.
@ Not in Sulingen mate
