I’ve owned the Prius Prime for nearly a year. The model three was a consideration, however, due to the poor charging infrastructure in my area. It just wasn’t smart, and on top of all that Tesla’s quality is not all that good when you begin to inspect all the panel gaps, panel, misalignments, interior materials, and not having a dealer network to work on the car if something goes wrong was a big turn off for me. Toyota’s track record for their reliability is a no-brainer at the end of the day. Specially for the Prius. I have the XSE middle trim. I’ve been getting between 50 to 55 EV miles daily on my commute. My work is a 14 mile drive one way. So I’m able to get back-and-forth to work on a single charge. I have 13,000 + miles and I’ve only spent around $330 on gas when I’ve gone on extended road trips. And the comfortability of those road trips, nothing compares to anything else of driven. It’s so very comfortable to sit in on long drives. The traffic jam assist is a heaven sent. The adaptive cruise control and lane centering assist is a beautiful luxury to have. Especially if you need to take your hands off the wheel for a moment. The oncoming traffic/pedestrian alerts has saved my rear end a few times when cars our pedestrians are in my Blindspot. I love making road trips when the opportunity arises in this vehicle has amazing gas mileage. because I get to charge daily, I’m often getting between 1800 to 2500 miles between fill ups. I also save my gas for extended highway trips and keep the battery on reserve for in city/town driving. I also like the fact that the car will start the engine on its own if it’s too cold out or if the engine hasn’t been used in the extended amount of time. It’s such an underrated feature to have so your fuel doesn’t go bad and that the engine keeps lubricated While not being a use. I thought I was going to have issues in the winter going back to a front wheel drive car when my previous car was a RAV4. However, I have not had any issues driving through last year‘s blizzard and going up hills was no struggle. And I believe that’s because of the weight of the additional Battery being in the rear of the car. In my opinion in the car feels way more planted and secure to the road than my RAV4 did. The car itself overall is a perfect combination of EV/hybrid driving. The biggest issue encountered is the lack of working charging stations in the cities that I’ve traveled to. Either the Chargers are full/occupied, they’re broken, or just none are available to be found in the ones that you do find you have to go on a hunt to find to the poor labeling in parking garages. One parking garage I went to had a spot for EV charging and when I got to the spot, there was no chargers, just normal household outlets. At a hotel that I stayed at, it said in the brochure that there was EV charging available and it was just a household outlet on the outside of the building. 🤦🏻♂️ I cannot imagine being so dependent on a plug if I owned a full EV in those type of situations. Where I have to worry about being able to get home or being able to find a suitable charger. This is what makes the Prius prime a perfect vehicle to have so you’re not panicking about not being able to charge to get home.
We've had our 2024 Prius Prime SE for nine months now and have driven it 12,909km (8,068+ miles|). To date, we have burned only three tanks of gas, including the dealer fill-up. At current gas prices that would add up to a $195.52 cost. It has to be pointed out; gas here is (down !), to around $7.00 an Imperial gallon, so, 8,000+ miles from three tanks is remarkable. In summer temperatures we can reach very close to 100km (62.5 miles), on a charge so, we run in EV almost exclusively. We are hoping that in mid-winter the EV range won't tank. So far, the car (our third Prius), has been flawless.
I recommend that you do a review comparing the Prius Prime to the new Tesla Model 3 RWD Long Range. These two vehicles are fairly close in price (Prius $33k M3 $35 after incentives) and curb weight (the M3 is about 250 lbs heavier). The range of the M3 is 363 miles and it has an excellent efficiency rating of 4.8 miles per kWh. It also has a lot of standard features and is fast and comfortable. As to operating costs, I think the M3 can be incredible cheap to operate if you can use solar. I use my old Chevy Volt 3.2 KW EVSE which gives me 16 miles per hour of range, without drawing off the grid, or 88 miles per day (5.5 hours of sunlight per day). If you can’t use solar utilities offer EV rates that are pretty good, for instance my local utility SDGE has an EV rate of $.50/day plus $.123/kwh during the super off peak period between midnight and 6 AM. This is so good I rarely Supercharged, but if you Supercharged during off peak times I think the rate is only around $.27/kwh.
I was caught between these two cars and bought the Prius. No range anxiety, no massive depreciation, can do EV for 38-40 miles for local trips and over 450 on hybrid. The biggest plus is not supporting Elmo and his deceptive stock pumping and his toxic right wing idiocy. Tesla EV tech is superior to everyone else's but they don't know how to build the rest of the vehicle. Toyota quality is superior and reliability has the track record. Prius has more storage in the back as the seats can lay flat, Model 3 doesn't. Tesla is crashing and burning inspite of Elmo's army of UA-cam pumpers and liars.
@@DrRussPhd you do know tesla was already a thing before government hand outs were even a thing funny thing is it was ment for legacy OEMS to help em catch up to tesla but tesla is just taking advantage of it now they don't really need it but oems do

My friend who bought new a 16 Model S noticed parts start falling apart aftef the four year factory warranty.
any car fucks up any car needs to be maintained. especially ice cars a lot of parts can go bad either mechanical or electronic. both can last 300k, engine prob needs to be machined or add new rings or head gaskets labor oil brakes suspension work. nobody mentions suspension and the seals, mounts and transmission which is cvt. etc. tesla just needs a new battery pack and its not even a lot considering u saved throughout the years. 10k thatll last you 20 years or so or 300k miles. thatll be your biggest maintenance is just 10k which isnt alot for 20+years if ur saving. i can make that in a few months. if you cant spend that then prob shouldn't drive. electricity is cheap and over the years u save up money, cost about 10-15 every 2 weeks for me to run. i drive both hybrids and full ev. prefer my ev for cheap to run and its faster on track and straight line.
@@Fumbiii16 I prefer my Prius Prime because it has the best of both worlds. I don't have to worry about terrible charging infrastructure in Canada, but yet I also dont use any gas for my daily commute. You fail to mention that most moving components like Suspension, CV Axels, Wheel bearings, really a tonne of similar regular maintenance items, all exist on an EV as well. The only downside for me is that I have engine maintenance, but its done half as often as a regular ICE vehicle as it isn't operating while I am in EV mode.
