    Believe it or not, we had been trying to obtain a Plugin Prius since the spring of 2021. As soon as the latest version of the Prius Prime was announced, we put down deposits at three different Toyota Dealerships to try to get one. However, living in Utah (a non CARB) state, as of this date NO Prius Primes have been allocated to any local dealers. We were fortunate enough to locate a Wind Pearl White XSE Prius Prime Ltd. at Bighorn Toyota in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. It was an easy five hour drive to drive over.
    I agree with almost of all of Kirk’s comments about the XSE Prius Prime. It is a bit expensive. Ours sold exactly at the window sticker MSRP, at almost the same price as his test model.
    We are not put off by the amount of hard plastic moldings in the interior. It is easier to keep clean than softer trims. Our previous 2014 Prius had lots of soft trim. It was a pain to keep clean. The sound level in the car is not too bad, but most of noise comes from the factory tires when driving on anything less than smooth paving. We drove a 2000 mile round trip to see the Solar Eclipse. It was absolutely a pleasure to drive. Now at home, we plug it in with the supplied level one charger. We see the gas station about once every six weeks or so. If we had to do it all over again, we wouldn’t change a thing. BTW, our iPhones wirelessly connect to Apple Car Play without any issues whatsoever. 😁

      Similar story here. We ordered a 2022 Prime (a red one), and had to wait 21 months for delivery. But, we ended-up with the Pearl better actually and, it took us two weeks to realize, the car is not white. If you look really closely at the paint you'll see what I mean. After nine weeks and 1,250+ miles, there's still a third of the dealer tank left. We run in EV mode as much as possible because that's the cheapest approach for us. Love this car.

      I agree that the paint is certainly quite white. But in the sun, when you can assess the color it’s really gorgeous.

      huh, i bought a 2013 chevy volt for 7k and modded it to have a solar roof and an extra 4kwh of battery for another 500$. getting 50-55miles of range. has twice the battery. its got about the same curb weight and slightly less hp out of the electric motors. idk if plug in people want to save money, this is the way i would go. my insurance is 21 bucks a month lol. saved 2k in gas my first year driving it. electric stuff basically doesnt break down and the motor actually protects the battery from the cold and over discharging on long drives. 10 kwh of battery though youre going to be charging and discharging the battery every day twice as much as an old volt.

    • @philipershler420
      @philipershler420 6 місяців тому +2

      @@vevenaneathna Huh, is right. What do you do when you run out of range on a road trip? Do you just park it in the sun for hours and hours? If you run out of range at sundown, do you just camp out for the night and hope the next day isn’t cloudy? The plugin Prius Prime is a Hybrid. Between the battery range and the fuel in the tank, it has well over 450 miles. More if much regenerated power is available. At home we just plug it in at night and run on pure EV power for almost all trips. We typically only visit the gas station around 6-8 weeks. The solar panels on our roof, more than offset most of the charging current.

    I bought the 2024 Prius Prime XSE in red, have 3k miles on it and love it. I carefully compared it with the prius hybrid and glad I spent the extra money on the prime. It's easy to charge overnight in my garage and I'm consistently getting 40 miles of electric miles per charge. I love almost never needing to go to the gas station and the added cost to my monthly energy bill isn't very much. The car drives like a dream especially in electric mode, it just quietly glides along with power when you want it. I'm glad I'm not trying to drive with a light foot in order to get good gas miles as I would have if I bought the hybrid. The prime also feels a bit heavier than the hybrid which makes the steering feel a bit different. I highly recommend to go for the top of the line prime in order to get the better sound system if you enjoy music. All of the criticisms about this car such as, steering wheel position, rear view visibility, big front pillars, etc... I have gotten used to and do not think they are a big deal. I'd say the pillars may be the biggest consideration as there are times when I do need to look around them when turning. My only real disappointment is that they didn't allow for the sunroof to slide open but at least it's glass. Highly recommended.

    I’ve had my ‘23 Prime XSE Premium (Yellow 😎🇨🇦) since August 2023 and it has been great. Only flaw was the 12v battery failed on me (boosted), and was replaced on the spot under warranty.
    Car has been flawless otherwise, regularly go weeks without using any gas at all. 👍🏻 Waiting on the recall about the electric locks on the back doors, but not an issue or concern since I have auto-lock when shifting the drive anyway.
    Great all around car. More expensive than the old Prius, but also a lot more car for the money as well. Good thing in Canada is dealers cannot sell over MSRP, so no extortion situations... Solar roof is not available in Canada, but I prefer the glass roof anyway over the tiny amount of range the sun will provide. 🙂. It is also easy to exceed the spec EV range if you drive modestly, and do not use heat or AC. Cheers.

Funny, on the delivery day, we we're offered either the SE Pearl or the (not spec'd for NA Mustard colour), car. Didn't want to spend the extra coin for the XSE so we took the lower trim.
      Getting 80+ Km on a charge. There's 1/3rd of the first fill up in the tank after 2,100 Km. You are right, turn off the heat, etc and you'll exceed the EV range. Love the car...........................

    8:00 Regarding the EV/Hybrid mode options, I've got a 2022 Prius Prime. Any time I know my trip is going to be longer than the battery will last and especially if a portion of my trip will be on the interstate, I put it in hybrid mode for the fastest or most uphill parts of the trip. Higher speeds and uphill climbs use up the traction battery much faster, so when I'm on surface roads, going downhill or flat driving, that's when I get the best "band for the buck" out of the traction battery. If I know I can get there and back on all electric, then yes, I use the EV mode.
    I have never heard a compelling reason for using that battery charge mode. It is less efficient than just running the hybrid mode.

  • @99dynasty
    @99dynasty 2 дні тому

    The pure hybrid mode is ‘identical’ to the standard prius when the plugin battery is depleted. You were in some mode where it was pulling from the plugin battery. This is actually the most efficient solution for people who can’t charge often. You don’t want to blow through the battery all at once, you want to augment the hybrid system in these cases.

    I have a 2023 Prius Prime XSE and it has the power rear hatch. I am having problems with that rear hatch and I wonder if others have been seeing the problem.
    The rear hatch itself has two buttons that are exposed when the hatch is open, close, and close and lock. The close button works fine, but the close and lock button fails to function properly about half the time. If I press that button it will beep once, and then (if it is going to work) it will beep a second time after a second or two. But sometimes it beeps the first time, sits there, and them beeps twice, telling me it is not going to close. Once it decides it is not going to close more attempts will fail the same way. I have to use the "close" button and then pull out the fob to lock the car. I have also had the hatch start to close and then stop, after I thought it was closing and had walked away. Then I come out of the store to find my car wide open, VERY disturbing. Has anyone else experience these problems?

  • @stevemark1267

    I bought my Red 2024 Prime XSE in January after ordering a 2023 car 6 months earlier. I bought it specifically because I am not ready to transition to a full EV. My choice of a PHEV or EV was simple. I generate excess home PV energy, which goes to the grid without compensation. I can recover some of that give away electricity by charging my Prius at home for my mostly in-town driving. To date, I have used about 1/4 of the original dealer tank of gas. I have had to purchase about 15 kW electricity. So far, I estimate total fuel usage cost has been less than $25.
    The Prius Prime MSRP was pricy. However, fuel cost savings should make the Prime a better choice over the regular hybrid after several years.
    I love the new Prius styling and its accoutrements over my previous 2014 Prius.

    I've had the exact model (not solar) you demo'd for 6 months now. Driven about 10k.
    I agree with the volume knob. I find myself instinctively reaching for it as the toggle is kind of slow. Also, the skip track/channel up down is on the opposite side! You need two hands to operate audio controls. 1st world problems, but c'mon.
    Getting in and out isn't my favourite, especially wearing a suit.
    Vented seats aren't as affective as I thought they would be. But that is subjective.
    There's a lot of beeps and warnings. I'm slowly disabling more and more as time goes by. haha
    Bluetooth and Apple Carplay is 50/50. If it doesn't connect, hold down the power button and it will restart the infotainment, connects up after that.
    Cold weather impacts battery range. If you're using HVAC, your EV range will be significantly reduced.
    Otherwise, great car. Good power. Fun to drive. Quiet. Insanely good mileage.
    Highly recommend getting PPF for the front end. It's so low to the ground, it gets pummeled with rocks and debris on highways.

    Thanks for the video! If you park it in direct sunlight with 15 miles of EV range remaining and leave it one day, you see verified real range of at least 3 miles added? So when you come back to it, the car will have about 18 miles of EV range due to the solar panel and you can actually drive for that distance using EV mode only? I am interested in real world results and also if you could get a full charge if you left it in direct sunlight for 10 days, let’s say because you need to fly somewhere. So, you leave it in the airport parking lot. It would be really nice to come back to a full charge because of the solar panel! Also, NB makes a 99% heat rejection window tint, so I think that would pretty much take care of issues leaving the car in direct sunlight.
