I failed it within the first 2 minutes because i was super nervous and basically stopped thinking and started turning left on an intersection and I didn't have the right of way. I also have never parked on a curb before so I wouldve been screwed. I was more upset tho that I had waited over an hour to get tested.
To be honest I really dislike driving, and I've always dreaded learning and honestly I feel like a kinda dumb person who lacks coordination so I dont trust myself but I need to get a license eventually :/
My permit expired too because I got it over a year ago but was too stressed to drive with my parents after driving with an instructor. I about to practice in a parking lot with my mom and I said I need 5 minutes. I ended up sitting at the wheel for 15 minutes and my mom asked if I wanted to go home to which I replied with "yes." After that I didn't do any driving at all for at least 6 months and I think the stress and disappointment I had in myself after this event further led me into some form of depression which I don't think I suffer from anymore however during that time it took a big toll on me.
I had the same struggles with dreading driving and actually took my permit test twice due to it expiring as well. I also feel I lack coordination and struggle to remember my right and left. I am especially terrible at understanding vocal directions so that added to the stress of driving under supervision.
Despite all of the stress I felt, I got myself to practice little by little after more than a year of refusal (mostly with the forceful push of my mom who was not as patient as your mom seemed to be) and after many trials and mistakes I eventually found myself not fearing driving quite so much and realized that as long as my eyes were open I was in control of the car and would not just randomly crash or fly off in some random direction. The control you have over the car is all that matters and even if you mess up while practicing or piss off the drivers around you (I have gotten yelled at plenty) you are in control of the car and most importantly in control of the brake.
Once I got over some of my initial fear I was able to actually learn and practice. As I spent more hours driving I looked back at myself and saw lots of progress which in turn dampened my fear even more. Now it’s the night before my behind the wheel test wish me luck!

Hello! I'm in this exact situation right now so you're not alone. I'm 19 and i've failed twice on the drivers test, too scared to take it again for that last time because I just knew I was going to fail. Now my permit has expired and I have to pay another $41 to re-take the permit test. I do feel like the driving instructors did make me feel more anxious because they had a mean, intimidating voice and tone, and people are counter arguing that you need to have that mean tone because it's not going to be like that in the "real world". But having a nice conversation and actually conversing with the driver really does help, and in my situation, TWICE, that did not help at all.
My whole family thinks of me as a burden because I cannot drive, and it sucks because my fear is very high and my intelligence is very low. I want to drive, and I need to drive, but because of that nervousness I failed twice(those automatic fails). I just wish in my next behind the wheel I actually have an easier time with this.

I believe in u, ur not a idiot and ur parents do to. U just need to believe in urself the, pressure and stress is only natural no one likes to fail And no one wants to be involved in a traffic collision and imagining so only makes all the more terrifying. If it helps emember there are so many negligent drivers out there who shouldn't be behind the wheel but are so if they can pass so can u. Just believe.

California driving tests don’t usually include parallel parking, that would be a nightmare for me…I’m attempting my third test in a few days. I got a really mean and condescending examiner last time. I’m starting to think there aren’t any nice ones working this job. My anxiety gives me cold feet and everything flies out of my head. I also get confused at their instructions, they tell me to turn at ‘this corner’ when it is an intersection, it is not a corner?
Same here! It will be my third chance, changed of DMV office I think this 2nd time the examiner just hated me to try it again so quickly....

Hi Gio, do you remember what the requirements are for someone who will be accompanying you on your test day? I just turned 18 and taking my test soon, my brother is under 25 but he's had his licenses for a few years now. Will he be able to accompany me or will I need to bring a parent instead?

I just did my first attempt today.. everything was going good.. until she told me to turn and I didn’t hear her the first time so by the 2nd time she said it I only had 1 second to think and turned so fast💀.. that’s not even the worst part.. after that fast sharp turn I went blank and she told me to pull over and I pulled over on the left side 💀🔫 she was so cool about it tho shout-out to her.

Bro i drive for 16yrs. Extreme driving and special forces, road chase driving principles. You should turn ur head this saves you once in 10yrs. Video has time lag, mirrors dont show the whole pic.

For the test can you do hand over hand turns?
That’s what we usually actually when we make a turn.
I have mine in 5 days I'm so nervous as I just started driving a few months ago and I have been not consistent but I will keep practicing every day until my test. I'm confused tho do I need to use the car that I will be driving for the test or the DMV is gonna provide a car to drive?

Is it an automatic fail to use hand over hand steering in CA or does it not matter? Everyone keeps telling me that but I also keep getting mixed responses so I’m so confused!!! Should I just play it safe and not do hand over hand?
Hi Adriana. I didnt use hand over hand steering when I made turns. I guess this is best used to make tight turns or quick steering actions cos it provides maximum movement of the steering wheel in a short period of time.

You can go to dmv right away and have the behind the wheel test scheduled
Typically how long is the wait time to get the appointment for the behind the wheel test? I’m currently stationed overseas in Japan and plan to take a month of leave to take my driving test in California. I’m just wondering if it will be enough time lol

I got it in 2 weeks after passing the driving test.
i failed twice i got disappointed immediately when i saw the person from Dmv writing on her paper so i thought thats it i failed but after watching video in youtube i found out that dont mind them if theyre writing it doesnt mean you did something wrong
