One of the best games I ever played, Xen itself was just a breathtaking masterpiece, seeing you guys finally releasing 1.0 is incredibly inspirational, kudos!
I can't express how much this trailer affected me. Half-Life was the first PC game I ever played and 22 years later is still my favorite game of all time. This trailer made me BAWL my eyes out. It hit me on an emotional level that I didn't think possible. Thank you Crowbar Collective. Thank you.
Same for me, and now half-life Alyx too? I told myself I couldnt afford a VR headset over and over but im biting the bullet anyway. I remember going through some dark times and having something to look forward too really kept me from becoming depressed. Always browsing the valvetime forums etc etc., Finally here we are. Black Mesa release and Half-life : Alyx. Almost feel as if though I made it.
Half-life Alyx is basically everything Half-life 3 would have been, just without being a sequel. It's a decent holdover for when/if they do get around to Half-Life 3.
you guys picked the best song for the trailer. i’m glad to have reviewed this game and experience Half-Life for the very first time. congrats on the full release CC
Man, I have so many emotions watching this trailer. 21 years ago, a generation of kids grew up with the original Half-Life 15 years ago, another generation of kids grew up with Half-Life 2 Then there was a hiatus for more than a decade. Some of the same kids that played Half-Life years ago now have become fathers and husbands. We thought Half-Life was left 4 dead and decayed (puns intended). But just like Gordon Freeman himself, Half-Life is immortal. The memory of Half-Life is just so emotional and intense in the hearts of its fans, so much that we waited for so many years. Some of us died waiting, some of us became hopeless. But after so many years, we now have this masterpiece, and Valve has come back to make a prequel, deservedly a masterpiece by itself as well. I don't know how many times I've played Half-Life and its expansions. And I don't care. I will play more and more in the future. Half-Life isn't just a game. It is modern art. Its greatness lies in its immortality: people are still making and talking about Half-Life games to this day, 21 years after the first one came out. Old fans rejoice, new fans are welcome to the series. That's a reputation the greatest FPS game of all time rightfully deserves. I fucking cried when I saw this trailer. It's 15 years of work by a company that used to be a small, independent team of guys who loved Half-Life and developed this game using that love and passion. I can never thank Crowbar Collective enough for making this. I was 14 years old when the 2008 trailer came out, and never gave up hope on you guys. I'm sure many of us did, too. I will buy this game, appreciate it and love it the way its meant to be loved and appreciated by its makers. I'm ready to be back in the test chamber and unleash the Resonance Cascade again. Video games are art; Half-Life proved it, Black Mesa redefined it.
This guy wrote exactly what I fucking feel for the Half-Life Franchise. I was born the same year Half-Life came out, and it was my first video game. Yearly I replay these games, because I just love it so much. Hell my username nearly everywhere is "Vortigon" playing slightly off of my favorite fictional race the Vortigaunts. Half-Life has and forever will be a part of my life, and I'm so happy that 21 years later, it still gets looked at favorably by nearly all gamers!
reading this made me almost cry! crowbar collective brought all the real gamers back from the dead, and unite them together. all my life i was waited for a game that i will love more than Half-Life. it never happened. i was 10 years old when the original Half-Life was released, and since then i am addicted to this, i've played this game so many times in my life that i can imagine the whole game in my head. since then, years have passed, i played hundreds of games, so many titles. so many platforms, so many stories... nothing, just absolutely nothing could bring me the same feeling as playing half life. nothing could make me feel like 10 years old me, amazed by the new game called Half-Life. now, when i'm 31 years old, a working hard married man, i can finally feel like a kid again. crowbar collective did much more than just remaking Half-Life, they revive our dying soul and brought us back to life, it's been so many years since i felt so much joy in my life, playing black mesa make me feel like i'm back to be 10 years old again, playing Half-Life on my Pentium 3 at my parents house. on those days when i had nothing to worry about in my life... man now i understand why this trailer made me cry.
we've come a long, long way. i still remember getting my hands on half-life shortly after it's release. i remember the announcement of this project, 15? years ago now?? time is crazy. i'm just really happy a newer generation of gamers get to experience half-life. hurry up, you're late for your shift.
Been following you guys since the earliest days, 2006 or something. Amazing achievement. The 2012 mod alone was quite an achievement but Steam release is a masterpiece. I hope Valve would acknowledge your work of pure fan love somehow, too.
Mark Laidlaw actually played thie start of it, but he said that he couldn't play any more because of how good it was. (I don't really remember what he said, but it was something like that.
I waited for this when it was just a mod, I played it when it was just a mod. I supported this when it became more than a mod. Thank you, this game is incredible.
Finished the game few weeks ago I have to say that XEN looks so amazing, 5 years of work on XEN was SOOOOO worth it in my opinion This just shows how a great bunch of people can make a great game or in this case remake a game and make it 100 times better than the original
I'm pretty sure this project was started purely because Half-Life: Source was disappointing, so a couple of people decided to do it themselves. And thus, this beauty was made.
This gave me the chills. Knowing that i'd now have to give this game a fourth playthrough excites me, unlike other games of the same genre or even other genres, nothing will beat the rush that i get from playing Black Mesa. Half Life is considered to be the the most influential game of all time and arguably the best game of all time. But.. I don't think there's any room to argue that this isn't the greatest remake not just of that game, but the greatest remake of all time.
It's not the best game in all time. I agree it's phenomenal, though. But it's not game for everyone. The most influential? Maybe. Definitely one of the most recognizable title. Because of both popularity and as a flagship game of the most popular platform - Steam. It's know because it's good. It wasn't perfect, but it was very good. Original. Valve didn't fear to make something new those days. What I love about Half-Life is that this game weren't just regular game with cliche motiff and standard gameplay. Everything was just as "self" as it could be. It was great mix of puzzle and shooting game. But I *will* argue it's the best remake. Why? Because for me, another great ramake is Tomb Raider: Anniversary, which made the very same. It improved both visuals and mechanics. It's pretty old now, but I still love how the map looks like and how You play that game. It's definitely better than remakes like Spyro, which actually is great, but it has its flaws and isn't really that much needed. And no matter how great Ratchet & Clank for PS4 is, it's no match for Black Mesa or TRA. Also, there is one more remake. Crash Team Racing: Nitro Fueled. I didn't play it yet, but the original game was legendary. And implementing new features like that to that game could make them really superb. And I believe it will. I agree though, it's definitely one of the most amazing games and remakes of all time. But won't be so sure if it's number 1. Because it's really hard to choose between them all. Time to choose...? Sorry, I can't...
I'd say that Doom, Wolfenstien 3D, Super Mario Bros., and a couple others that I just can't think of at the moment of writing are slightly more influential than Half-Life but I can agree it is phenomenal and absolutely revolutionary and extremely influential, but it isn't perfect (ex. On A Rail) but again I can agree with you it probably is the best remake of all time and their next project I believe is focused on remaking Half-Life 2 being called City 17 I'm not sure though and that is likely is going to be as good or even better; just realized this is a carbon copy of a comment already written out fuck me
@@thetrashmann8140 The devs stated a few times they don't have an interest in remaking HL2 unfortunately. They have plans on making a non-Half Life game in a different engine instead of Source. Man, I have so many emotions watching this trailer.
21 years ago, a generation of kids grew up with the original Half-Life
15 years ago, another generation of kids grew up with Half-Life 2
Then there was a hiatus for more than a decade.
/applause
This guy wrote exactly what I fucking feel for the Half-Life Franchise. I was born the same year Half-Life came out, and it was my first video game. Yearly I replay these games, because I just love it so much. Hell my username nearly everywhere is "Vortigon" playing slightly off of my favorite fictional race the Vortigaunts. Half-Life has and forever will be a part of my life, and I'm so happy that 21 years later, it still gets looked at favorably by nearly all gamers!
reading this made me almost cry! crowbar collective brought all the real gamers back from the dead, and unite them together. all my life i was waited for a game that i will love more than Half-Life. it never happened. i was 10 years old when the original Half-Life was released, and since then i am addicted to this, i've played this game so many times in my life that i can imagine the whole game in my head. since then, years have passed, i played hundreds of games, so many titles. so many platforms, so many stories... nothing, just absolutely nothing could bring me the same feeling as playing half life. nothing could make me feel like 10 years old me, amazed by the new game called Half-Life. now, when i'm 31 years old, a working hard married man, i can finally feel like a kid again. crowbar collective did much more than just remaking Half-Life, they revive our dying soul and brought us back to life, it's been so many years since i felt so much joy in my life, playing black mesa make me feel like i'm back to be 10 years old again, playing Half-Life on my Pentium 3 at my parents house. on those days when i had nothing to worry about in my life... man now i understand why this trailer made me cry.
i was 2 when the last half life game came out. now i'm 14.
stop being a gay loser
we've come a long, long way. i still remember getting my hands on half-life shortly after it's release. i remember the announcement of this project, 15? years ago now?? time is crazy. i'm just really happy a newer generation of gamers get to experience half-life. hurry up, you're late for your shift.

Yeah, when i played the old version (2012). I have memories that cannot be forgotten, Good Job Crowbar Collective.
Keep in mind that this game was made by a just a small group of modders who just said, "Ayo, wouldn't a half life remake be cool?"
I'm pretty sure this project was started purely because Half-Life: Source was disappointing, so a couple of people decided to do it themselves. And thus, this beauty was made.

Also, It's always been a wish of mine that if HL2 ever gets remade like Black Mesa, it would be called "Universλl Union" since the combine are the main focus, not specifically the city.
