      I'm glad I could help you out. I know the frustration of having to go thru 20 youtube videos just to find out what type of sand I can add to my substrate to help it drain better, or the best way to fight off fungus gnats. Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns about your plants at all. Thank you for checking out my channel!

    This video saved me from burning out my hibiscus! I'd been searching everywhere for the proper amount of nutrition to give my new plant, and I almost added fertilizer on top of the soil I'm using. Phew.

      Thank you. I sure would but you ought to check Kroger or Lowes or Home Depot or even walmart. They all sell established plants that go for about 12 bucks all the way up to $40 for pretty large plants. It's gotten pretty large. My next video is gonna be on repotting him! 🌺

    Um I continued on and viola I was right nutrition. All I added was banana peel but like a month ago it did it before so obviously I need nitrogen iron etc I'll fig it out I didn't realize I was planting with a soil that didn't have nutrition. I found a great soil it's actually all organic with worm casting. If you know what my plant needs as far as nutrition could you pretty please let me know?

    Hey there I have an orange sunset hibiscus real dark green foliage though I get one or two yellow leaves here n there, my issue is some look like it's a mix of yellow n green almost like a dusting of spray paint but not quite as yellow it's also bloomed beautifully when I added banana peels to my soil. I'm concerned bc I have had about 4 baby buds drop off or turn brown yet the others are fine. I'm thinking nutrition what advise do you have for me?

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 роки тому +1

      So they're are a couple of different reasons as to why this could be happening. Yellowing leaves can be from both over and under watering your hibiscus. It could also be from them getting too much hot/direct sunlight for too long. I try to put mine in a spot where they'll get ample morning and some afternoon light and then in some shade when it gets to be about two o'clock. Nutrition is another reason. Most every flowering plant out there loves a lot of phosphorus in their fertilizers. Phosphorus helps with the flowers and roots. With hibiscus though it can be deadly. Too much phosphorous will cause them to yellow, get splotchy and stunted. Stay away from bloom boosters because they often have very high amounts of phosphorus in them. Typically with hibiscus you want a moderate amount of nitrogen, very little phosphorus and high amounts of potassium in their NPK ratio in the fertilizer. Another reason would be because of pests. Look over your entire plant with a good light. Over and under every leaf, in every flower, the branches and the soil. Do you see anything? If so let me know what it looks like.

      @@TheGreenAlchemist okay. I'll look tomorrow. I had read right after I got it that some shade is actually beneficial so I do try but potassium needed makes sense. I added banana peel when I got it about 2 months ago I mean I had barely any blooms just two when I got it after that I SWARE it flowered so much. I did it bc a couple buds browned and fell off so I knew banana peel in soil is really good for most plants. I'll check for pests bc the beetles I've fought so hard this summer they're bad I refuse to use pesticides I'm waiting on my neem oil be about 4 days than it arrives my sprayer showed up today. So I'll def lyk what I come up with. Thanks so much for replying. Not many get to with all the comments.

    When I first purchased my plant it had huge hardy leaves and flowers now the leaves/flowers are small and scarce. Maybe it needs some type of nutrient?

    My understanding is lady bugs dont really eat spider mites. You can use spider mite predators available on line or neem oil w titch of dish soap.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  3 роки тому

      I meant that they'll eat most pests. I've never used them specifically for spider mites so I'm not 100% sure. I just use rubbing alcohol if I do encounter spider mites. My bad. 🌲

      @@TheGreenAlchemist alcohol? Sorry one you cant really see a spider mite. They are really really tiny and 2 my hibicus like alot of folks is 5 ft tall and 5 ft wide. Not likely the alcohol method will work. I appreciate imput but this is not helpful.

    • @TheGreenAlchemist
      @TheGreenAlchemist  4 роки тому

      I'm not sure but I think you mean your plant is dropping leaves? There could be several reasons why your hibiscus is dropping leaves. Typically a reason they drop leaves is so they don't have to support the leaves they dropped. Your plant may not be getting enough light and consequently the plant can't make enough food to keep all its leaves and other parts happy and healthy so they'll lose a couple of leaves to keep the rest of the plant healthy. Water could be another problem too. Either too much or too little and they'll drop leaves. Too much water is way harder to correct than not enough. Try not to over water. Also if you are going in to the cold season like me then your plant is going in to a resting period and doesn't require as much. Maybe one or two cups every 3+ weeks. Feeding can be a problem too. A lot of people don't see a bunch of flowers and they think they should start feeding especially with a super bloom booster. Typically phosphorus is great at helping plants flower but for whatever reason hibiscus plants don't take well to a bunch of phosphorus. In fact if you feed it, make sure you use a 20-5-10 solution. Out of the three NPK numbers make sure the middle number, the phosphorus, is the lowest number.

      There are several different reasons as to why this could be happening. How much sunlight is your plant getting? How much do you water when you do water? How is the temperature and humidity in your area? Is he in the ground or container? If in a container what medium did you use? What are you feeding him, and how much? What is your soils pH? Have you noticed any problems with pests?
