Best part of the Screaming Eagles at Bastogne, after they held off the German attacks General Patton showed up and said he "rescued" the trapped paratroopers. To this day, not a single member of the 101st Airborne (The screaming eagles) ever agreed that they needed to be rescued by Patton. I really like how you research the song in the same video and I think you would really like the song "The Last Battle" by Sabaton.

Part of the lore of the 101st is that we were simply waiting for the weather to clear to get aerial resupply and CAS so we could counterattack into the German formations! So no, we didn't need to be freaking "Rescued"!

The "actors" that were in this video were actually real "re-enactors" they are part of 2 large WWII re-enactment groups, and Sabaton wanted them because they knew that all the uniforms and weapons and tactics would be historically accurate.

The reason why it said "to the german commander: NUTS" in the beginning is because when the US got offered to surrender before all of their soldiers died they just replied with something like "Nuts", its not officially confirmed that "nuts" was the exact word but it was something like that

Next you need to hear the song "Carolus Rex". This song was sung in both English and Swedish lyrics and is about the Swedish king, Karl XII or "Carolus Rex" as he was called. Since this band is Swedish, their connection to this song and the whole album can not be understated. There's a reason why it's considered by fans as their best album. Also the White Death who was a Finnish farmer who became a sniper when Russia invaded Finland. It is believed that he killed over 500 Russian soldiers half with his sniper rifle and half with his sub machine gun. One of the biggest thing about him is that he did not use a scope and instead used the Iron sights for n his gun so that the sun would not shine a glare off the glass giving his spot away, he also reportedly ate snow as so that his breath didn’t leave any smoke. The Russians hated him so much that they put out cash rewards for any who killed him, employed their own snipers to specifically hunt him, and would use artillery where they thought he was. Eventually one day he did get hit taking a bullet in the side f his face that took a big chunk of his cheek and jaw yet he survived the war.

So it begun, the song already told you that, people are fighting and dying. And then comes the German general with an offer of surrender for Americans.
If I remember correctly McAuliffe LITERALLY said ,,NUTS!". The German general asked somebody what it meant. And someone explained it to them that it means something like ,,Go f yourself!". The general said it has to be official and that's when the quote from 2:09 happened. It has to be official? So it is! ,,GO F YOURSELF" with signing, titles, ect.

I don't know how. But you managed to find completely false information about the song.
The song is exclusively about the siege of Bastongne.
The 101st was dropped in to defend the vital cross roads. They were surrounded by the veteran's of the eastern front. The first actual trained unit the western front saw since the fall of France. And the small 101st was the face it alone.
One German officer was stupid enough to send the American commander terms of surrender. Given the 101st was outnumbered and surrounded with any hope of supplies or aid being days away. The 101st which was trained for this exact type of battle promptly ignored the the German and kept preparing defenses. When the German soldier's patience grew thin. He demanded a response to which the American commander said they had no intention of surrendering. The american commander ended up responding with NUTS, simply just to get rid of the German.
Later, the German head of the operation was rather angry at his subordinate to have even bothered to give the 101st terms of surrender knowing they'd never accept.

The more I hear about the German army in the world wars, it seems like they picked too many fights and were at terrible odds in that regards, but they did have great production and vehicles, and offensives and shock tactics, but also that the commanders and anyone with administrative power were mostly idiots and they were terrible at defense. Probably a bit wrong, but just what I've heard over my many years as a Brit.
