I'll bet Big Boy was feeling very nostalgic as he was driving by all those freight cars. It'd be like: "Wow, I used to pull quite a few of these freight cars behind me in my day. Those sure were the good ol' days. At least now I have a new job giving rides to tourists rather than collecting dust as a museum exhibit. Wish I could say the same for my brothers."
The incredible strength and beauty of this marvel of engineering and human creation, which I discovered in 1967, is astounding - a true symbol of America's might, admires everyone, wherever he is. Azer. M Baku, Azerbaijan
You're in a few of the photos I took of #4014 coming into Gurdon the morning of August 26. It looks like you caught me in Prescott and Gurdon as well. I was behind a pickup truck and The Travelling Gandy Dancer's little van at the Ouachita River just outside Arkadelphia, but my parked vehicle is easy to spot in your video.
Haha " Please don't hog that horn its only for emergencies " Then the horn blasts out a long blast.😂😂 Fantastic pictures. Loved every second of it. That is some long lens you've got. Brilliant photography.
curious....there is a diesel engine behind the three tenders....is the engine active during the run or is it just being towed by the Big Boy and used in case of a breakdown?
It is online and used for braking to save wear on Big Boys brake shoes. Also used as a backup in case of emergency as to not take a chance on clogging the mainline.
13:05 if you don't see that steam coming out under the cylinders, it's not running uner it's own power, but being pushed by diesel. for example like 1:01
How many reasons are supposed to be counted for which these locos are totally obsoleted, 1..slow movements(time loosing 2...more expensive. 3...environmental and pollution creating. 4...opportunities of other sources of powers. 5...uncomfortable for oprators. 6....too costly maintaining functional provisions. 7....at least 4/5 OTHER causes to be on line in future or running around where possible. Thanks everybody, concerning my question.
This never gets old to watch. So very nostalgic indeed! Thanks for taking the time to video, edit and share this with us. Love it!
Can you imagine being a traveler driving down the road and not aware this was coming at you.

Very noticeable flat wheel towards the end of the train.
This king is being assisted by the SD70MAC imposter.

All designed with a slide rule. Get one and learn to use it. No batteries required.
So it was you on that ladder?
Nope. I was standing on top of my truck.

LOL that couldn't be more false. If you don't see steam coming out from under the cylinders, that's only because the cylinder cocks are closed.
Plus it’s burning oil may not have the same effect as coal burning steam

pollution is pretty much less pollute since the locomotive is a oil burner
