  • Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid will have a hearing with the NHL’s department of player safety. Vancouver Canucks defenseman Tyler Myers is also scheduled to have a hearing with NHL Player Safety.
    There was no time and date set for the hearing.
    The Oilers' captain was handed a match penalty Saturday after he cross-checked Canucks winger Conor Garland in the head late in Edmonton's 3-2 loss to Vancouver.
    A match penalty is given when officials determine a player has intentionally injured - or tried to injure - an opponent. The sanction carries an automatic suspension until the NHL's commissioner weighs in. #oilers #edmontonoilers #nhl

    Teams should be able to file a grievance against refs

  • @Bromslee
    @Bromslee 17 днів тому +28

    They should discipline the Refs, Also Garland pinning McDavid brings up an argument for a rule change, If a powerplay is awarded near the end of the game, the game should play out until the powerplay is over, otherwise why wouldn't people just pin players in similar situations?

    • @Bromslee

      That being said, I see one game suspension each, I can't imagine they will be suspended for the rematch on Thursday, let's face it, neither player are going to be fighting on Thursday in retaliation.... So now we carry 8 D with Klingberg and Regula, Regula no hit, Ryan to waivers (he should clear) and J.Brown to bakerfield to have room for the 1.7 mil klingberg cap hit....now the only question is, what to do with Jeff Skinner?

      If Garland was called for the penalty, wouldn't it have been a delayed call anyway and play continue exactly as it did until the Canucks had possession? McDavid still gets up and does what he does. Myers takes his cheap shot and so on.

      @@Bromslee so you believe when someone is getting held the refs should whistle the play dead? Kind of penalizes the team that was fouled doesn't it, since that team can now pull their goalie and have a 6 on 5 until they lose possession....and THEN get the power play?

      @@jimlittle5769 If the Oilers would have seen Garland being called for a penalty, they would have given up the puck right away. They were on a 6 on 5 (with the goalie pulled) and would have been a 6 on 4. Sure, they would have to win the face off, but it is worth it to have 2 more skaters and less Canucks to get in the way.

    What is gonna take for the NHL to get the reffing to a better standard? Does all the players need to refuse to play? I'm genuinely curious what it would take for a shake up in the reffing side of the business.

    When McDavid cross-checked Garland to the side of the head and Myers re-aligning Bouchard's teeth and eyes, I just yelled "you can't do that and it's definitely a suspension". Potential upside- As McDavid will likely miss the next 1 or 2 games, Jeff Skinner COULD be moved up the lineup. Wouldn’t it be great if he took this opportunity to show Knoblauch that he can be part of this team on an ongoing basis? Guess we’ll see. Thanks for the update!

      It should have been a fine IMO the hit on Johansson because I have yet to see an angle that shows any type of intent. It looked more like a last second reaction to contact coming rather than a full on targeted blow. I agree though, be responsible for your own actions.

  • @jimlittle5769
    @jimlittle5769 17 днів тому

    It's the refs job to make calls. The players do what they can to try and win and refs make the calls. That doesn't mean a player should get crosschecked to the face. Both McDavid and the Canuck play who cross-checked to the face should get three games, but saying McDavid was justified doing what he did is wrong. I understand this is an Oilers heavy viewership, but come on. I get McDavid being pissed he was being held/interfered with, but he should be mad at the refs not calling it, not do something that could clearly cause serious injury to someone.

    • @AHockey1993

    • @justingillis9254
      @justingillis9254 17 днів тому

      If you don't want to get cross checked in the face, don't do things that illicit that kind of response. A big thing about hockey is that the players police things themselves just as much (if not more sometimes) as the refs do. Each team used to have a roster spot for a guy who would go out when he needed to to set someone on the other team straight. Over time having a skill guy rather than an enforcer fill that spot became more important to a lot of teams. But at the end of the day, if you're going to go out an act like Garland acted you have to expect that there is going to be retaliation. That's hockey. People are all up in arms because it was Connor McDavid, and don't seem to be focusing on what Myers did 20 feet away.

      @@AHockey1993 It was a general statement after reading the comments in here. I didn't single you out at all. But you did say that, at the end of the day, it was the refs fault. The refs don't make players cross-check anyone.

    • @AHockey1993
      @AHockey1993  17 днів тому +2

      @ the refs not policing the game makes the players police it themselves. Not saying it’s justified but if we want headshots like the ones we saw last night out of the game, refs have to be held more accountable and make calls.

      @@justingillis9254 So why not just drop the gloves against Garland? Garland didn't do ANYTHING to physically harm McDavid. He held him for sure, but that hardly cause injury. How much did you guys cry when McDavid got crosschecked in the face in the playoffs but didn't say a peep when McDavid did it to Hughes. That didn't even get called, but Hughes had to leave the ice by daring to be bleeding (for apparently no reason at all...)?

  • @Ace96x10
    @Ace96x10 17 днів тому +1

    You know your team is soft when small opponents feel free to attack your star players. Bad refs aren't new and they aren't going away. This Oiler team won't make out well in the playoffs with injury's if they don't get some mustle. Don Cherry was right, and everyone who said "we have to get fighting out of our game", is a fool or worse.
