  • I was a mellophone player in the 93 & 94 Cadets of Bergen County. I became a High School Band Director & did that from 1998-2000, then moved on to training bank Underwriters @ USAA Federal Savings Bank for 7 years from 2001-2009. I am now a performing “country music” songwriter, entertainer, & recording artist playing on “Texas Radio.” I just landed my first Top 40 last year with “Movie Night” See my Country music videos on my main channel “Felix Truvere” www.Felix.Band
    This video will take you up close to the intimate final closing congratulations to the corps & shows the FINAL "Attention" & dismissal of the World Champion 1993 Cadets Drum & Bugle Corps. There's even an appearance and final instruction from George Hopkins. Some liberties were taken with our final performance of this amazing show. The guard had some fun with the “Victory Performance.” Before the show you hear the brass staff yell "The reins are off mellophones!" (Larry) and before Phillip Bliss, "Let's go Malaguena!" (Dennis).
    Wow! We just won the DCI World Championship!
    We were excited. We decided to add back in some “difficult” mellophone parts of the show that were "hosed" to clean up the ensemble while we were running 50 mph... so you'll hear some extra mellophone runs that USE to be in there. I’m the mellophone player you’ll meet at the end. I was 19 years old :)

    One of the things I love the most about Cadets is watching our plumes bounce when we march. This show was an inspiration to me and although I was too young to march THIS year, this is one of the performances that made me march Cadets in 99 and 2000. I wonder where a lot of those members are today. Thank you!

    This show used to win a lot in my backyard competitions. I used to memorize the music to my favorite shows, create flag routines, and conduct fake competitions; of course, I was usually the only performer, judge, and audience member (when my neighbors weren't spying). I love the Cadets!

    That’s what I love about drum corps LOL

    27 years later and it’s still one of the most aggressive shows I’ve ever seen. I was even in the stands that night, not far from this vantage point.

    it's amazing how well the music flows seamlessly from start to finish...the drill and everything that's going on between the hornline, drumline, and color guard really does tell an amazing story that anyone can get caught up in...it was a show concept that was brilliantly thought out and pieced together by everyone on the staff. Looking forward to 2021 and beyond for more amazing Cadets performances! - FHNSAB....The Kid, Garfield Cadets '79-'84, snareline.

    No doubt about it, this was the "Whiplash Era" in DCI. From 1990 - 1999 we saw some amazing shows, and speed and demand were the "in" thing. I like where DCI is at now as well. Much more about staging, various types of visual demand, artistry, and getting it clean. This show by Cadets was a gem. So was Star. And Phantom Regiment at Finals was to die for. :)

      I can still finger along to this whole show... & go through all the motions. It takes me back to even smelling the bus fumes after a show, being sticky in sweat, & eating PBJ from the food truck. Great times. Can never replace those memories & those days of no cell phones when we waited at a pay phone to call home.

      as the above comment indicated, hateful domestic white supremacists were the more likely threat of violence in this country than international terrorism, and still continue to be. why ignore the anecdote and focus on so-called anarchist groups?

      I live in Tennessee, which I would say is a very average state and definitely still backwards in some ways outside of Nashville, where I live. But Mississippi is fucking awful. The worst state I have ever been to by a mile. Having DCI Finals there at anytime, let alone in August, is insanity.

  • @brown55061
    @brown55061 12 років тому +2

    This was he first year I really saw Cadets start put some insanity speed into their shows. And it just got crazier through the 90s. I was a Star fan and thought they should have won but I was wrong. This show was more demanding and pulled off as good or better than Bartok. I'm with jaydsp1, it would be awesome to see some kind of remake of this for 2013.

    I love this era of CBC, especially their shows concepts and color guard. Watching this, though pisses me off. They had just won DCI by a tenth of a point against Star, who had been beating them pretty much all season. The opportunity to march your championship show again in encore is a really special thing that the majority of people who marched DCI will never get to experience. So why did the guard (I know it's just a few of them, but still..) decide to fuck around during this honor?

    • @FelixTruvere
      @FelixTruvere 8 років тому +2

      Matt Stryker - George Hopkins concluded with the same thing right after the show :/ I agree. There wasn't much he could say with it being the final sentiments of the season; so we ride with the history.

      when we did the victory run through in 98, no one did that crap

    • @gdixonyoutuification
      @gdixonyoutuification 8 років тому +3

      they did a looser run thru. They all "screwed around with it" in 90. The 93 corps was under immense pressure all season in the competition with Star. The corps was a GE monster - but the show was virtually uncleanable in spots. Running much of it. That said - as a fan that season in the stands I sort of enjoyed the encore. And the "tight as nails" performance earlier that night.
