To use older models of iPhone without home button what you do is go to "settings" here. Go to this option "Accessibility". Go to "Touch". Go to "Assistive Touch". Enable this option "Assistive Touch". Now you can see a button appears here. If you touch this button you will see a menu will open. But if you want to use this button only as a home button then go to this option "Single Tap" and select "Home". Now if you touch this button what happens is, this button will work as a home button only.
