You REALLY need to listen to Subtle Change from this album. There are only a few songs I've ever heard that I would describe as a musical journey, and this is easily one of them. Everything that makes prog death so special is in that song. A truly bizarre, yet brutally heavy and emotional masterpiece.
I have been listening to these guys for a while now and they are definitely one of my favorite bands from my home state. Glad to see them getting some recognition from across the pond ;) Especially when Europe has it's own amazing metal scene to keep up with.
I think when it comes to tech/death metal canada is way better positioned. You have Rivers of Nihil, Beyond Creation, Archspire and many more. When I think of technical death metal I think of canada.
Get it? Get it? Because owls say “who”? Not a bad song, although I liked cleaner parts more than heavy ones. Btw ever heard of Revocation? Terrific band, probably one of the best on the scene right now. PS Pleeeeeeeease do an Ulcerate song
@@Tjenias4 The song talks about running away from the shame. But shame is like a shadow, it'll follow you wherever you go; so, where could you possibly escape to? To where only owls know your name, to Oblivion, where you're simply "who?"
This is like one of their least heavy songs from the album. Their other songs are pretty heavy and have lots of variety in it, and the drums are just going crazy the whole time through each song
If you haven't already Hedgy, watch the video that goes with this song - funky 70s vibe. I'm going to see these guys in May - I'm stoked. Cheers matey.
I always thought the album was missing a bit of low end but never thought it was "lo-fi". It was professionally produced and engineered. When I think lo-fi I think of garage rock and shoegaze. If you haven't already, you should really give the whole album a listen. It's a masterpiece imo.
I'm not sure if 'Death-Prog' is an actual genre, or have they just created it? Maybe Opeth did it first? Probably Death, as they invented everything death metal lol. Anyway, fantastic song, my favourite song in a very long time. :)
You should check out Subterranean Masquerade if you haven't before. No Place Like Home or The Rock N Roll Preacher. I suppose you could call em proggy death. They use all kinds of instruments like flutes, mandolin and even harmonica. :P And it's really good stuff too.
I have the album and think it sounds fine, but I didn't think it was lo-fi when I listened to it on UA-cam, so my opinion isn't very reliable. You could listen to the album on their bandcamp too, maybe it'll sound better there? Would definitely recommend listening to the song Subtle Change off the same album too, easily the highlight of the album for me.
I thought the recording quality and production were great on this, and I'm something of an old stickler where music is concerned. Maybe try watching their video for this song, which is also cool and hilarious btw. :)
Would love it if you could listen to some of Cormorant's work. I think you will really enjoy it after seeing how much you enjoyed Be'lakor and Spires. Try starting with 'Daughter of Void' or 'Salt of The Earth'.
not a Death fan but they certainly have an interesting style I got an interesting band u might want to check out. I assume u know Blind Guardian, but do you know *Savage Circus* ? what if I told you they're basically an alternative universe blind guardian xD? It was founded by former Blind Guardian drummer Stauch, and the lyrics are mostly based on horror and fantasy movies. I recommend the song "Evil Eyes", it's hard to believe Hansi Kürsch is not singing at times
I've listened to the whole album. There are some incredible instrumental parts there, but I think the have overdone it with the drums and some riffs seem to be to repetitive. Still, one of the best albums I've heard this year.
Very late comment but that is not the sound of the whole album. This is probably their most "progressive" song and they tried lots of new things. So I would say that the production on the rest of the songs is different
I spent the first couple of minutes of this song thinking "this is great, it could only be spoiled if they thought that putting growls in would be a good idea". Ho hum! That may sound a little hypocritical from someone who has recently become an Avatar fan but, for me. when Avatar do it, it works, it fits their style. Same with Babymetal, when they have growls they're in the background or representing a demonic/divine source and it enhances the song. Not so with this group and any number of others recently. For me, the growls just don't add anything to the overall sound. My problem, I know and there are plenty of other bands out there. Just sounding off.
Rizla2112 I feel the same. the band in general has MetalCore influences and I absolutely dislike MetalCore for this exact reason. it always feels like forced in
I don't hate it, it just doesn't do anything for me. Believe me, as a Babymetal fan, I'd be the last person in the world to adopt any kind of trve kult stance (I had to type that twice 'cause I spelled it wrong the first time, should tell you something).
It's really easy. This song is not usually there style so the growls are right there, it's just the vast prog elements that enhance the song. If you like them then or not, that's your opinion then. And Death Metal sounds like this, because it would be hilarious if someone would sing over death metal riffs.
@@PNW infinite points to Colin... That's right a constant stream of points. Maybe even several streams... But the points don't matter... So... Those streams are really more like Rivers of Nihilism.

Do this please. Nobody has done a video on it.
Dad joke to open?
You win. F'ing awesome!
I love Rivers of Nihil
God tier taste in bands
Persefone is great!
They are very talented and original
I have not stopped listening to this album yet, definitely my favorite of the year for sure. Best concert of the year as well!!!
I’m seeing them in December
I haven't stopped either. Get to see them in December but they're the opener which is disappointing as it'll be a short set.
The production is awesome
The lyrics are really well written in telling the story of the last man alive, and becoming one with his surroundings.
The title is exactly what caught my attention too. So glad I listened.
No click bait with that song. That whole album is amazing
So apparently not a click bait. Very nice song. Didnt expect that.
I have been listening to these guys for a while now and they are definitely one of my favorite bands from my home state. Glad to see them getting some recognition from across the pond ;) Especially when Europe has it's own amazing metal scene to keep up with.
Well you have good timing. I suggest you come back to the channel tomorrow as I've just revisited these guys.
@@PNW Definitely will do. Looking forward to it.

First time viewer, Beyond Creation is a great listen
The "lofi" makes you want to listen to more
They're coming to my town in October. After hearing this, I might go see them
P.S. They're in the U.K. Dec 16, 17, 19

I've seen this band live also! Will not regret seeing them live🤘🤯
Uber Noodle you the man
This is like one of their least heavy songs from the album. Their other songs are pretty heavy and have lots of variety in it, and the drums are just going crazy the whole time through each song
Check out the official video for it. It is brilliant
This song and the album in its entirety is pure fucking magic
Still one of my favorite album's! Pure talent🤯
detail? Go for Obscura's new album. Diluvium.
go for "The Seventh Aeon" or "Ethereal skies"
The Seventh Aeon is definitely one of the best track from the album, with an Epilogue to Infinity. That bass line is incredible
If you liked this, my second favorite song of the year so far is Slugdge - Slave Goo World Similar vein.

I'm going to see them next week
Naaaice ! Concert review request officially lodged.
The UA-cam version sounds a bit muddy. Buy the album or use Spotify on highest quality and you'll see
Fuck i was like yeah this is alright when the Sax kicked in... i was like holy shit this became great!! So unexpected!
That title reminded me of the name of a (Depressive) Black Metal band called 'And Now The Owls Are Smiling'. Of course I had to click on that album...
Hands down the best album of 2018! Even though I heard it in 2019.
A very enjoyable listen. Where would you place Phanerozoic I: Palaeozoic by The Ocean Collective?

Just download the FLAC files on bandcamp. You won't be disappointed with this album. It's perfect and sounds great.
Going to see them play this evening

SCARS ON BROADWAY-LIVES(DARON MALAKIAN)
Everyone should listen to The Odious - Vesica Piscis AOTY 2019. I promise it’s better than good.
Good album, been listening to it on and off for the past few months. I think the production is fine, yet I wish it was crisper.
Another band from reading, also from the same town "black crown Initiate" which is possibly a better
This is years ago but what a shitty way to watch this song, wow wow wow wo
It's pretty representative. I'm not sure what you're talking about with low-fi though it sounds fine to me.
Listen to "hollow"
not a Death fan but they certainly have an interesting style

cool ;D

As a Catholic myself that joke at the beginning made me laugh. Anyways. Would you do the Kult - Uklad Zamkniety?

Great review, but the noise gate is more distracting than the hum would be if you hadn't used it. This is always the case with spoken word.
that joke though xD
Damn, tired of constantly suggesting to make video on Anaal Nathrakh -___- Soooo... make vide on that :P "Forging towards the sunset" will do good.
I agree completely! I have the same feelings about production of this album. It's amazing, but could have been a masterpiece.

Well they have relativistic mass but that would have ruined the joke.
You are right, the mix is not on point.
Love the music, not a fan of the harsh vocals.
It's a very average album. This was a perfect review. Not just this song but the whole album just feels lacking
